Tells the tragic tale of family relationships gone awry. The story is an update of the Greek myth of Orestes and was written by composer and Fort Lauderdale resident Marvin David Levy

A story of passionate love, jealousy, and betrayal set against the backdrop of dictatorship, loss of country, and national yearning that made this opera a potent political icon in 19th century Italy which still resonates today.

A melodramatic piece, this opera addresses themes that resonate to both individuals and the community. Its powerful depictions of torture, murder, and suicide are juxtaposed with some of Puccini’s most memorably lyrical music.

Love and death are relentlessly intertwined in this opera based on Celtic legend, an epic story where intense love transcends life itself.

Marvin DaviD levyBased on the trilogy by Eugene O’Neill, this mythic tale is set in Massachusetts shortly after the Civil War. Beneath the veneer of the prim and proper Mannon family are seething passions of bitterness, infidelity, and even murder. This story is one part Hamlet, one part The Little Foxes, and a lot Oedipus! The magnificently powerful music is completely original. Composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein called Marvin David Levy’s opera “a tremendous achievement, a remarkable work!” Come see why this opera received a 25-minute standing ovation on opening night at the Metropolitan Opera in 1967.

“it’s got everything you’d want from an opera…and more. the music knocks you out with its ferocity.”

Marvin david levy

Nabucco is the opera that launched the spectacular career of Giuseppe Verdi, considered by many to be the greatest Italian opera composer.

This opera speaks the voice of the Jewish people and their struggle as exiles. In fact, it speaks the voice of all exiles. It will touch your heart if you or your family have experienced the pain of yearning for your homeland. Experience the anguish as Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylonia, destroys the Temple and forces the Jews from their homeland. Follow their journey as they are taken into bondage, and feel their grief. Will they survive in this new land or will they perish? And can love between two people endure in such a place? One of the highlights of the evening is the famous chorus “Va pensiero,” which expresses the yearning of the Hebrew slaves for their homeland. It will bring you to tears.

This is the epic opera that South Florida has been waiting to see. After Tristan & Isolde premiered, neither music nor opera was ever the same again. This work of genius has frequently been cited as a piece that expanded the development of Western music.

Immerse yourself in this four-and-a-half-hour masterpiece as Wagner unveils the Celtic legend of Tristan and Isolde, lovers bound together through eternity by sharing a love potion after her handmaiden foils Isolde’s poisonous plan for revenge on Tristan.

The highlight of the evening is Isolde’s “Love-Death” aria in the final act. It’s one of opera’s most emotionally moving moments and will leave you stunned. This is not just an opera. It is an artistic achievement.

“i write music with an exclamation point!”

richard Wagner

This is what opera is all about. Tosca is one of the most famous and most beloved operas ever written. It’s on everyone’s list of the ten best operas of all time! The music is magnificent, but the story is as melodramatic as it gets — including torture, murder, and suicide. In the end, evil is subdued, but at what cost?

The passionate and beautiful singer Floria Tosca is in love with a handsome young artist, but the lustful chief of police, Baron Scarpia, has other plans. He makes a lecherous offer, allowing Tosca to save her lover. At first, she strikes an unholy bargain with the evil Scarpia, but her hatred for him gives her second thoughts. The results are bloody, deadly, and shocking. Come see what Tosca means when she says, “This is Tosca’s kiss.” Tosca includes some of the most inspired and most memorable music in all of opera. When it debuted in 1895, it was an immediate hit and has been an opera fan favorite for 118 years.

“Poetry and again poetry; tenderness mixed with pain; sensuality; a drama surprising and burning; and a rocketing finale” giacomo Puccini
