Observations, experiences and experiments are important points of departure in the artistic practice of Morten Steen Hebsgaard, where the practical or direct relation to everyday life, material and space play a central part in the working process. Just as the scientist in his laboratory, Hebsgaard experiments, dissects and splices objects in an attempt to transform objects into new expe-riences with new significance and new functions. Morten Steen Hebsgaard is educated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, 2001-2007.

In the artistic practice of Morten Steen Hebsgaard, the signifi-cance of everyday objects is not only transformed into sculptural works, he also gives art a functional value. This practice of in-terference or displacement between the social and aesthetical space has taken a dramatic turn, as these common everyday ob-jects are processed and turned into obvious sculptural pieces – and vice versa. The works of Hebsgaard always seem to balance in a constantly fluctuating change of focus between the formalist linguistic knack of art, and what is actually being communicated through the form of the work, as well as through its function.
