Using the perspective crop tool on my texture, I managed to turn it into a square, using shift I set it to 50cm x 50cm. Then I clicked enter, this creat-ed a square texture.

I then resize my image to 1024x1024, so I have created a 1024x1024 square tex-ture, ready to be tiled.

Going onto filter --> other --> offset, this will come onto the screen, then setting the horizontal and vertical at 512, making sure the wrap around is ticked/selected, nothing else.

After this is done, the image will be split into 4, to make a seemlessly tiled texture you have to get the clone stamped tool, clicking ALT and choosing an area of the texture, then you want to make it so that it doesn’t look like their is different images you want to make it look like its all one image, this will help once making the texture work as best as possible.

Go onto Filter --> 3D --> Generate bump map, editing some of the features on there to fit what you’re after in terms of texture.

Go onto Filter --> 3D --> Generate normal map, editing some of the features on there to fit what you’re after in terms of texture.

Using the shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + U desaturates the image, allowing us to start the first step of the making the specular map.

Then to image --> adjustment --> levels or CTRL + L brings up the levels, allowing us to add depth to areas bring in the outside arrows, using the middle arrow last.

Style SheetStyle Characteristics

Black and whiteDesert Gothic

Horror/mysterious

Environnment breakdownSilent, baron areas of darkness/contrast with light. The

sky has no characteristics, very simple and unlifelike. The floor depending on metres off the ground/under sea

level a slow contrast of black to white, for exampleblack = 0m grey = 40m white = 100m. The dwellings inside are complex yet have no colour, creating mystery and an

aire of intimidation/scariness.

Theme Characteristics

How will you make it Your Own?Black and white wastelands/black and white enviro-

ments can be very basic and difficult to understand what everything is and what everything means, especially in a 3D

world, my idea is to have the contrast of black to white and use it to tell the player how high up the

character is, also adding some detail to such a detailess world. The sky instead of having clouds will have twists

and turns, seen in some of my art work inside my mood boards. I would also want a kind of mist to be around,

adding to this darkness and scariness I’m aiming for. The dwelling will be a castle of some description from what I have researched on black and white games it’s rare to find

a castle as a dwelling.Referances and Influences

Influences for my game would be things such as gothic art, very mysterious and difficult to find light within the images/videos. Misty ideas come from the likes of movies such as ‘The Mist’ a movie where the mist conceals some-thing, keeping the player/watcher on the edge of their

seats. My idea for the slow contrast to add detail to the surface of my landscape and height is heightmaps. My idea for a dwelling in which holds so much detail but has no

different colour has come from my idea of a castle, shown in many gothic arts.

Black and White The black and white genre of game makes it very simple, yet at the same time extremely difficult to achieve and

make into an interesting game. A lot of people enjoy being able to look into vast, extremely detailed land-

scapes with a array of different colours. The only problem with black and white games is that the lack of

detail can either make or break the game, it needs to be fully focused on game play and achieving the best

gameplay. Limbo achieved this greatly, making it one of the best black and white games ever made.

Anime The Anime genre of game is a style of Japanese film

and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children. These games, such as pokemon, are both child friendly as well as adult friendly, making it so successful and well known. The final fantasy games, aimed at more of an adult audience uses ani-mation and the japanese style to make a fast paced

arena based fighting game.

PhotorealismPhtorealism as a genre that basically sets out to im-itate, in as much detail as possible real life pictures.

The graphics need to be really high quality to the point where the gamer thinks they’re in a real life scenar-

io. With the introduction of better graphic cards and 4K Monitors making it even more possible to achieve

the end goal. Games that do this well are games such as Arma 3, used by the military to play out scenarios,

not only are the mechanics very close to real life, the graphics also are.

Cyberpunk The Cyberpunk genre basically focuses itself on sci-ence fiction, scenarios in which maybe scientifically possible/impossible but hasn’t happened yet. Things such as long term space travel. Cyberpunk focuses

on a world that is urban, dystopian future, where computer techonlogy has dominated society.

Exaggeration Exaggeration is used in games, mostly in RPGs, this art

style is used for animé and manga typically, this art style is where the artist exaggerates many things with-

in the game, mostly games with a Japanese influence, for example, in the game “final fantasy 7” the char-

acter “cloud” has a huge sword.Another game which does this is Titanfall, when they’re walking around in the robots everything is very over moved and robot

like. Exaggeration is representing something bigger or smaller / better or worse than it actually is.

SteampunkSteampunk games that feature steam-powered ma-chines and settings in an alternate history of the Wild West or the industrialized British era of the

19th century are rare. Maybe even rarer than cyber-punk titles. Games that have been extremely success-

ful in doing this are Bioshock, which using steam-punk, make themselves stand out from other games. Another game which did it well is Dishonoured, alt-

though a short game, it encorporates stealth into a steampunk game, which hasn’t been done before.

The environment I’m choosing to place my dwelling inside is hostile, intimidating and keeps the player on edge. Around every corner is danger, making it such an exciting and thrilling environment. The planet in which the environment is set in is one never seen before, a parallel dimension to that of Earth, the one everyone knows and is comfortable with. All the colours are blank; they give all the

objects no emotion or no life, adding to the hostilities of the environment. It is a 3rd dimensional world, on a planet known as ‘Alter-nate Earth’, not many know about it but it does exist and the concept of an Alternate Earth gives endless possibilities. The time in re-lation to 2016; it is set in the near future, around 2030. The world is black and white, as it is day, the sky will be white and the floor

with be a mixture of darker colours, shades of light grey/ shades of black, allowing me to add depth and detail to what is a difficult concept to add detail to. The conditions within ‘Alternate Earth’ mimics Earth, rain comes and goes, as does wind and other weather types, the twist comes as these weather types are amplified in alternate earth. The weather becomes a lot harsher, testing the play-er and his skills to survive; putting him through his paces making sure it isn’t an easy environment to thrive in. Water is dependent on the weather, once it gets really hot, all the water evaporates, forcing the player to hide inside the dwelling, yet as it rains there is an abundance of water, to the point where flash floods aren’t rare. Food also is dependent on the weather, growing crops due to the severe weathers is near impossible, meaning finding food becomes a challenge in itself. Shelter for the player will be vital to

shelter them from the different dangers, without shelter being the number one priority, it’ll be impossible to thrive. The resources and organisms that grow are very much the same of Earth, tools can be created and animals can be killed. The dangers on ‘Alternate Earth’ come in the form of animals and the harsh conditions, many of these animals will have adapted to the different weathers, do you’ll get some tough animals that may hunt in the daytime, in the blistering heat, or they’ll wait until night when it's sub-zero, aiming

the attack you then. Making the player very restless always on edge.

Placing down original polygon. Converted to editable polygon bevelled outwards then upwards to create an outer edge

I then inset the back. I then extruded the top part down I then deleted the top two polygons ready to be bridged, creating my roof for the front.

It was then bridged creating a roof I then connected the sides together. I then used ring and connect to create lines going the opposite way

I then highlighted the same 15 polygons on each side and deleted them.

After they were deleted, I bridged together the missing polys to make an entrance

I then ringed and connected the top, this is for the up and down castle bricks

I then ringed and connected it the other way, this will allow me to bring down the polys and make these edges

Picture of me deleting the middle parts to continue with the castle theme.

I then bridged them all together, making the up and down bricks I then ringed and connected, this will allow me to make the side walls

I then extruded both sides, using the front view, made sure it was 8 blocks across, making it symetrical

i then ringed and connected, 7 lines across, i will repeat on the other side

here it is on both walls showing off the final front of my castle, where I’m now going to start extruding.

i extrude 4 of them upwards this makes it have the castle effect, i repeated on the other side

Page 12: Mood Board - WordPress.com · Mood Board - Black and white. Mood Board - Under World. Using the perspective crop tool on my texture, I managed to turn it into a square, using shift

Here it is applied on both walls. I extruded the sides, ready to make the towers, using vertexs and moving them out-wards I will have to use symmetry due to it being very difficult to mimic on all 4 tow-ers.

I ringed then connected, I can make cylinders with this. I then high lighted all the vertexs on each side and moved them out.

Extruding the sides up and outwards, ready to create my corner towers

I ringed then connected the edges using 7 splits.I extruded the walls, using 9 squares across twice, making it symmetrical.

I extruded outwards to make the side walls.

I created the one tower then used symmetry to copy and paste them. Extruding selected polygons to create the castle walls going up and down. Using extrude and ring and connect I created some steps to

the tower.

Using symmetry to copy and paste the steps.

Using symmetryI have managed to get all the steps in now, it looks a bit messy in this screenshot but after it is cleaned up, below is the result.

I re did my front after applied symmetry now have 4 sets of stairs 4 towers and continuing to do the front.

I finished the entrance extruded the top.

Bridging the polygons to allow me to extrude. I extruded to create the wall, target welded the vertexs then extruded upwards to make the castle look like a castle on my design.

Here is the starting foundations of my Unity enviroment. I wanted to create an enviro-ment that might warrent long bridges and a black and white castle; I started off using the brush tool to make some out of the ordinary hills, then flattening the insides to create a stream inbetween the mountains.

Again used the brush tool to create a continuation of the stream, also heightening the sides to make a lake and a bit of a border.

Added a new water tile, created a pool of water, in the middle will go my castle.

I then created the middle island for my castle, using different brushes to give a scary and intimidating look to the island.

This is my waterfall area, it comes from the mountains into the stream. This is using particles to make my world have more features.

Adding my FPS Controller so that I can move around my world in first person. I also used this to put a grey filter on my world to keep to the black and white theme.

On this page is a view of how I did my trees. I have also included three screenshots of how my enviroment looked without texturing, the idea of a path going through gave the player a route to go, and enjoy the world. This also allows me to fully focus on just that set path and make it as detailed as possible considering the time I had to complete the project.
