• 1845 – Family moved to Le Havre, France

WHY:• Monet was a major artist in the

Impressionism art movement (short choppy paint strokes….meant to be seen from a short distance away)

• Painted “En Plaine Aire” - In Plain Air (outside)

• Impressionism named after Monet’s piece “Impression Sunrise” as a joke

TIDBITS:• Showed off his artwork at the Salon (non-

museum display) in Paris, France

• Lived, and painted, in Giverny (a village just off the Seine River) for 43 years

• Grew up and even went to college in Barcelona, Spain

• Recognized as an artist in Paris, France

WHY:• Miro was a major artist in the Surrealistic

art movement (not meant to look real)

• Was a good friend (and influenced by) Pablo Picasso

• Sold prints of his work, rather than original pieces

his paintings (she was the light & warmth in his heart)

• Sold lithographs (expensive prints) made from his original pieces

• His dream house, in the village of Palma de Majorca, was turned into a museum of his work after his death

WHERE & WHEN:• Born in 1928 – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania –

U.S.A.

• Went to college – Carnegie Institute of Technology – in Pittsburgh also

• Recognized as an artist in New York, New York – U.S.A.


WHY:• A major artist in the Pop-Art movement

(over simplified, flat color images)• Used silk screening process to make

multiple copies of his work• Started “The Factory” where other people

did the work, turning Andy’s original ideas into many pieces
