MMS Summer Camp Week 3 Newsletter
Citation preview
This week has been filled with
many fun activities.
The Mad Scientist Summer Camp
utilized the Scientific Method on
their experiments and had so
much fun. The All the World’s a
Zoo Camp has been playing
games, learning about all dif-
ferent types of animals, and en-
joyed their trip to the Santa Fe
College Zoo. Club Sport Camp
had a fun time playing all sev-
eral types of “club” sports. The
Under the Sea Camp dove into
the all that is the sea. Check in-
side for more details!

Mad Scientist!!!Mad Scientist!!!Mad Scientist!!!
Golfing,
Lacrosse, Dodge Ball, Hockey and Tennis
kept the Club Sport campers busy this week.
Each day consisted of skill drills, golf compe-
titions, lacrosse and dodgeball games and
more! The rain did not stop the camp-
ers, as they stayed indoors and created
power points, and also learned about
Wimbledon and made their own predic-
tions after researching all the stats.
It was all about physical
science, chemistry, simple machines, the human body,
the scientific method, and more. Each day they did
lots of fun experiments such as building a gumdrop
dome , making glow in the dark silly putty, elephant
toothpaste, and separating the fat from milk. Earlier
in the week they tried to figure out the basic parts of
taste. Their discussion of solids, gases, and liquids led
them to see how dry ice works. Mr. Richard com-
mented saying that “We let the children explore the
properties of science themselves.” All the students
had a lot of fun. At the end of this week I believe all
the campers are officially MAD SCIENTISTS!!!!
The Mad Scientists try to get a piece of ice out of a cup with
only a miniature lasso.
Mr. Richard helps a student. Wow! That’s’ a lot of foam! In this experiment the students had to make - what is called Elephant Toothpaste.
Sofia just finished the taste test. It doesn’t look like
she liked what she tasted.
UNDER UNDER UNDER THE SEATHE SEATHE SEA
Exploring animals in their natural
habitats, what they need to survive, how they
grow and adapt to their environments are a few
of the many topics discussed this week during
All the World‟s a Zoo Camp. The students simu-
lated many games that taught them how animals
live. On Thursday they went to the SFC Zoo. A
student in the camp stated “ My favorite part of
the camp was going to see the zoo and seeing all
the pretty peacocks.”

Our Under the Sea studies took
us to various oceans where we learned
all animals that live in those oceans.
Shells were abundant in the classroom as
well as fish objects and objects of ocean
mammals. There were ocean animal pup-
pets, ocean felt board work, ocean animal
books, and more. The students made mo-
biles, and did seahorse art scratchings.
They also painted an expandable top hat
for July 4th and also the campers sang
Yankee Doodle Dandy/You‟re a Grand
Old Flag, This Land is Your Land, and
America, My Country Tis of Thee in
celebration of the holiday Fourth of July
Holiday.
This week, the campers traveled to the sea! They
learned about all different kinds of sea creatures. The children especially found the
sea animals from the deep very interesting; giant squid and the viper fish! Since
Monday is July 4th, the children also made
Fourth of July necklaces, made firework
prints and painted “flag” hearts. The children
are looking forward to the next two weeks :
