MAPLE MOUNTAIN FFA Maple Mountain FFA had a successful State Convention and even came home with a State win! We had two students competing in speaking contests, representing our area. Samantha Powell competed in the Prepared Public Speaking contest. She placed 2nd in the state. Breanna Harding competed in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking contest and came home with the State title! She will be competing at National FFA Convention this October. Both girls spent countless hours preparing for their contest and we are absolutely thrilled with the results! If you have these two ladies, please congratulate them on a job well done. Also thank you to the many of you who helped them prepare for the contest. To those of you who accepted tardy notes because they were presenting speeches, to those of you who allowed them to present in your classes, and those of you who gave up prep time to sit as judges and gave them pointers, we appreciate you all! It was worth everyone’s efforts! Thanks for making Maple Mountain a great place to work, and for supporting Maple Mountain FFA!

MMHS STEM AMBASSADORS Our MMHS coding STEM ambassadors just completed their visits to Mapleton Elementary School, 5th grade classes. It was a very successful year teaching these 5th graders. Through eight visits many students completed a full section on code.org. We would like to thank: Mr. Groneman, Miss Thompson, Mrs. Bradford, and Mrs. Bonnett for letting us be a part of their classes. Next school we will be attending is Sierra Bonita.

CODE TO SUCCESS SUMMER PROGRAM June 10 - July 19, 2019 Nebo Advanced Learning Center www.ctsutah.com Six week summer programming class FREE for Nebo students. Classes will be held at the ALC Monday-Friday from 8am - 12pm. Registration opens in January. In collaboration with tech leaders, we provide students with the opportunity to access coding training modules, obtain one-on-one mentoring from experts, and take advantage of networking opportunities to pursue internships. Our goal is to bridge the gap between education and industry by getting students interested in programming and setting them up on a successful education pathway in computer science. Interested students can talk to Mrs. Dunn or Mr. Eastmond or call the ALC and speak with Mrs. Hair.

Hello Parents, Many of you have a child who does coursework on Canvas. Some of you may not be aware that you can be a parent observer in Canvas. Once you are enrolled as an observer to your child’s Canvas account, you will be able to view assignments, course events, and grades. Instructions on how to become a parent observer in a Nebo Canvas account are below. If you need further help a booth will be set up at the next parent teacher-conferences from 5:30 - 7:30 on February 13 or you can email Jodi Partridge at [email protected].

Adding Parents as Observers in Canvas First, the STUDENT needs to get a code for their parent/guardian

1. The student goes to their Account settings in Canvas (profile pic) 2. Choose Settings

3. Choose Pair with Observer

Student will receive a code they give to their parent/guardian so they can create a paired account. The code expires after 24 hours.

Second, the PARENT/GUARDIAN needs to...

1. Go to the Nebo home page 2. Hover over or click on the Parents tab 3. Choose Canvas

4. Choose Log into Canvas as… A parent*

5. Click on “Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here For an Account”
