We had over 200 entries, but we were able to choose only 16 works by our juniors and seniors to represent our school at the All-State High School Visual Arts Show at the Springville Museum of Art. PARKING LOT SAFETY Parents: Please remind your students to drive safely and with caution in our school parking lots, even after school hours and on the weekends. Spanish Fork Police Department has been notified numerous times in the last while with reports of wreckless driving in the parking areas around our school. Please, please remind your students to drive with caution at all times! And now with the winter weather upon us and the roads and parking areas sometimes a little more slick, students need to slow down and drive with caution. Selfies 4 Good January Theme: The Selfies 4 Good Club January Social Media theme is, "Showcase your New Year's Resolutions." Take a selfie with someone in your life while showcasing one of your New Year's Resolutions. A random entry will receive a Key Card. This is a great opportunity to meet someone new! Come to our club meeting on January 14th during lunch in room D203 for more information. PARENTS OF SENIORS! Be sure your students have checked to see if they can complete a career pathway. Many seniors only need one or two more classes next semester to complete a pathway and earn a white honor cord to wear at graduation. Check out the requirements on MMHS Website under Departments, or click this link CTE Pathways. Class changes have to be done this week! Students with questions can ask their CTE teacher or Mrs. Robyn Dunn in C100. YEARBOOK SENIOR ADS Parents of seniors it is now time to buy yearbook senior ads! This is a great way to congratulate your senior for completing high school and wish him/her luck in future endeavors. The deadline to purchase an ad is February 7, 2020. $25 if purchased before February 1 or $40 if purchased after February. You can buy the ads at the finance office in the high school or on mmhs.nebo.edu/news/school-fees-portal 4 things are needed for a senior ad: -ONE photo of your senior -Two sentences congratulating your senior (if it’s too long, it will be shortened) -A self-addressed envelope so your printed photo can be returned -A copy of the receipt from the finance office Give the envelope with the photo, sentences, and receipt (if paid to finance office) to the main office secretary. Digital photos and sentences may be emailed to tyler.lewis@nebo.edu but the ad will not be created until a digital or printed copy of the receipt is received. The yearbook staff will create the senior ads that fit the design of the yearbook, and all senior ads will be the same size. Questions? CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT Registration is now open for next semester's concurrent enrollment classes. Students can earn college credit for courses they take at MMHS! This program is available for ALL of our MMHS students and provides affordable access to higher education. Concurrent enrollment credit transfers to ALL state colleges. For more information, go to our school's website and click on Concurrent Enrollment. Course listings for UVU for next semester are listed at the end of this newsletter.

CTE SCHOLARSHIP The State of Utah offers a unique scholarship for students wishing to pursue a degree in a CTE field (business, health sciences, engineering, family & consumer sciences, video/photography, welding/woodshop, cosmetology, etc.) The scholarship amount is different depending on the university your student wishes to attend but the award goes up to full tuition for one year. Students who want to apply for this scholarship should contact Mrs. Robyn Dunn, our CTE Specialist, ASAP so she can help them with the application process. DIGIGIRLZ CAMP Junior and senior girls have the opportunity to visit Microsoft’s campus to experience their DigiGirlz Camp; a technology event for girls that works to dispel gender stereotypes of careers in the high-tech industry. Sessions will be held on skills such as programming, graphics, problem-solving, video creation, technology exploration and more. Interested students should contact Mrs. Robyn Dunn in C100 ASAP if they want to attend this event. Space is limited! Registration is free and transportation will be provided.

WINTER COLOR GUARD FUNDRAISER We are having a fundraiser to raise money for Winter Color Guard. We are accepting good condition clothes, shoes, coats, backpacks, purses, towels, stuffed animals, bedding, linens, belts, and hats. There are boxes located at the front of the school by the main office. We will be collecting from January 6 until January 31. Make sure to bring lots of items to help make this season a great one! ALC OPEN HOUSE The ALC will be having their Open House on January 28th and 29th, from 5:00-7:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to visit the ALC and see what they have to offer. The ALC is located at 161 E. 400 N. in Salem, and their phone number is: 801-489-2833.

ACT Prep Classes

Students who are interested in an ACT Prep class for the February 8, 2020 National ACT Test

and the March 10, 2020 State Test that will be given to all junior students at MMHS, can

now sign up in the Finance Office. The classes will be Saturday, January 18th and Saturday,

January 25th, from 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM. The cost of the class is $50 and includes a

preparation book. See the Counseling Office if you have questions about the ACT or the

prep class. The class will be limited to the first 35 students who sign up.

*Attendance Information: If your student is mistakenly marked absent or tardy in a

class, please have your student visit with the teacher of that class, as soon as possible, requesting the teacher fix the attendance mistake. Mrs. Davis (attendance) cannot remove or change something a teacher has marked, she can only excuse their absence or tardy. If

your student is late to class, be sure they sign the Tardy Log in the classroom to ensure they are only marked tardy and not absent. Also, parents cannot excuse a Sluff. Students or parents who would like more information about why their student received a Sluff may

contact the teacher who assigned the Sluff. Thank you!
