The youth council reported to the city council on the Leader Institute they attended at Utah State University in March. The group took first place for their council display (display and book of their activities can be seen in the civic center foyer) and second place award of ex-cellence. Applications are now being accepted for next year and are available at the civic center. Next year’s advisor will be Pau-lette Lyons. The city will benefit from sev-eral Eagle Scout projects. Jacob Andrew will be placing crosses on veterans’ graves at the cem-etery for his Eagle scout project, under the direction of the Amer-ican Legion. Adam Hendrickson will be improving safety at the park by flipping portions of the chain link fence to get rid of the sharp edges for his Eagle project, and Paul Hendrickson will paint the new metal fence at the cem-etery.

Engineering plans have been received to bury the irrigation ditches at the intersection of 4600 West 6200 North. Cost es-timates came in higher than an-ticipated. The project has been postponed because water will be

in the ditch soon. Raising and widening the road between 6100 North and 6200 North has also been postponed. An agreement was signed with Tremonton City to use their animal control facility. Only au-thorized persons are allowed to deliver animals to the facility. So far, 138 dogs have been licensed. All dogs must be licensed by April 30. Licenses can be ob-tained at the Civic Center. Two complaints have been received. Barking dogs in the southwest area and dogs and cattle in the northeast part of town. The irrigation department plans to make improvements to the main ditch and has had extensive improvements at the head coming out of the canal. A new system of moss control was previously approved, depend-ing on the cost. The council approved the moss control ap-plication as long as all entities involved pay their share. The road department plans to do patching as soon as weather permits. Several streets will be chip sealed. And, a culvert near the south entrance of the cem-etery will be extended. The park was awarded $5,000 from the Box Elder County Tour-ism Advisory Board to make safety improvements. The city must match the award with in-kind work and/or cash pay-ments. Some of the bleachers will be replaced to meet safety standards. Cleanup day is Saturday, April 25. Large roll-off dumpsters will be available at the park for resi-dents to bring garbage to. There will be charges for tires and re-frigeration units. Nonresidents are welcome at $5 per pickup load. Century announces its annu-al spring carnival on Friday, May 1, at the Bear River City Park. Games will be from 4-6:30 p.m. An auction and raffle will follow the games. The PTA will be selling punch passes for $10 again this year. They will be available during Parents and Pastries, and dur-

PTA announces school carnival, fundraisering lunch April 27-30. With each pass purchased, you get to guess how much candy is in the jar. The closest guess wins the jar. The PTA is asking for dona-tions to help the school with the one big fundraiser of the year. Students are asked for items to fill baskets to auction, as well as a bag of candy. Please send do-nations to school by April 30. Baskets to be auctioned off will be themed Fun in the Sun, Games, Movie Night, Backyard Bar-B-Q, Sports and Cleaning. Call the school with questions. Two employees from Century were honored at the recent school board meeting. Receiving one Employee of the Year Award was Linda Christensen, a custodian. Century was lucky to get her. She lives in the Tremonton area and many of the students and staff know her and that made her feel welcome. Marilyn Stewart, Bear River City resident and musical specialist at the school, was also honored. She has taught the students so much about gaining confidence and developing their talents. Students and staff love these ladies who do so much for the school.

Beth and Mack Christensen attended graveside services in the Bear River City Cemetery last Wednesday for their niece, Deb-ra Ann Bourne, 54. Sympathy to the family. I made mistakes in the article about Box Elder High School cheerleaders last week. It will be Valerie Tingey instead of big sis-ter, Jessica, who will be leading cheers at Box Elder. Jessica will be graduating. Other cheerlead-ers include Tyliece Hansen, Jenn Dallin, Sydney Sorensen and Ka-tie Kelly. Bill and Bev Whitten have re-cently enjoyed a trip with his parents, who live in Brigham City. They enjoyed a Mexican Cruise that included Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Islands. Rhees and Glenna Burt en-joyed going to California for the Easter holiday where they spent a few days with Justin’s family.

Perry City to consider fees on homes not yet connected to sewer

There are approximately 50 homes in Perry City that are not currently hooked up to the city sewer system. The reasons vary from the home being too low to connect without a pumping sys-tem to no lines serving the area. The city council started discus-sions last Thursday evening to determine what should be charged for connection fees for these homes and what monthly fee should be charged now until they can connect. Councilman Tom Peterson

suggested that a public hearing be held to hear from these resi-dents. Those affected will be no-tified when the public hearing is to be held. William Morris, Perry City’s prosecuting attorney, did a pre-sentation on the open and pub-lic meetings act and harassment training. Morris instructed the council that government busi-ness is the people’s business. All actions must be open and delib-erations must be open. Morris also spoke about discrim-ination and harassment in sex, race, national origin, disability and religious areas. This was an annual training.

There will be public hearings on the 3450 South street dedica-tion and the wastewater master plan during the planning com-mission meeting next Thursday.

This coming Saturday there will be an Eagle Basketball Camp. This free clinic is an Eagle Scout project by Robby Dilg. The camp will be held at the new Willard Stake Center from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Aprill 18. It is for boys and girls ages eight and up. You will need to bring a permission slip signed by a parent, a basket-ball and any friends who would like to come. For questions, call Robby Dilg at 435-723-7134.

Corinne News

Glimpse of spring stirs activity

There was an increase in the spring farming frenzy last week when the weather finally broke into warmth. Tractors were roaring, sprayers were spraying and the Bear River Co-op fertil-izer portion of the business was humming. Even the poor little freezing flowers were looking better. Trudy Winchester, a Corinne city council member, would like to thank all who participated in the Easter egg hunt Saturday.

UDOT construction work has begun again on 4800 West. The Bear River Co-op has also begun construction on their new proj-ect. In other business during the recent city council meeting, the council gave the OK for City Re-corder Kendra Norman to pur-

chase a new copy/fax machine for the office. Rufus Barker sug-gested dogs should be tagged with licenses at age three months instead of the current six month deadline. A lawsuit has been filed on be-half of the city against the water meter company responsible for the never ending troublemakers now in existence, reported May-or Richard Nimori. Water sched-ule should be out immediately, said councilman Curtis Hansen. There may be fewer mangy trees in the city after this month. City council agreed to try out the services of a professional tree ex-pert on removing some trouble-some plants. The First Ward Relief Society is also busy this month. Cindy Hubbard reports that several mini classes are under way. A book club meets on Thursdays at the home of Wendy William-son to read and discuss books of general interest.

Alisha Norman is in charge of a scrapbooking adventure. Once a month, ladies can get togeth-er for a temple excursion. Next month, the whole Relief Society organization will meet together for an activity, said Cindy. Robin Norman from the Sec-ond Ward requests ladies watch the bulletin board at church for weekly updates on activities. Parents and Pastries will be held at Century School Friday, April 17. Ann Whitaker, PTA president, encourages parents to enjoy a break with your student, eat a little and read a little in the early morning at school.
