Grant Program Descriptions

Mini-Grants

CETL mini-grants are designed to support faculty engagement in innovative teaching and effective assessment of student learning. Faculty may work as individuals or form teams within or across disciplines to strategize ways to enhance their teaching, serve student needs, and meet course or program goals. Faculty are encouraged to use data-driven assessment to identify gaps and strategize ways to increase student success. Mini-grants may also be used to support theory-to practice applications of literature reviews, reflective teaching, communities of practice, and professional growth. Grant recipients will submit a written report of their projects to CETL and present to a group of faculty in a CETL-sponsored or CETL-approved event. Fulltime and adjunct faculty are welcome to submit proposals by the published deadlines in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Guidelines

Who can qualify for a CETL mini-grant?Fulltime and adjunct faculty can qualify for a mini-grant. Faculty can choose to work alone or form teams within or across disciplines.

How much will faculty members be awarded?Faculty will be awarded a maximum of $500. Payment will be received after all components of the project have been completed.

What do faculty members need to do to apply?Interested faculty should fill out the CETL Mini-Grant Application. This includes outlining project rationale, goals, methods of achieving them, and potential impact on teaching and learning. The deadline for proposals will be published separately each year. Workshops with CETL Faculty Associates will be scheduled to assist faculty who wish to apply.

What needs to be completed to fulfill the mini-grant?After being awarded the mini-grant, the faculty member(s) must complete the project as proposed, submit a final report to CETL, and present results/insights to a group of faculty at a CETL-sponsored or approved event by May 30. Faculty presentations may be recorded and submitted to the CETL website.

Travel Grants

CETL is pleased to support faculty professional development opportunities by funding attendance at conferences, workshops and symposiums where the attendee focuses on issues related to teaching, learning, technology, assessment and student success. While such conferences may be linked to particular disciplines, preference will be given to conferences that focus on college teaching and learning, address issues across a wide variety of disciplines and student populations. CETL conference travel grants are limited to $1500. Adjunct faculty can also apply for conference travel grants. Up to two travel grants per year may be awarded to adjunct faculty.

Please be sure to have secured permission from your immediate supervisor before applying for a CETL Travel Grant. Travel must be completed by June 30th each year.

SPC Foundation Innovations Fund Grants

These grants, from $500 - $3500, are to support projects that align with the mission of the College and benefit SPC students. Applications may be made by St. Petersburg College faculty, administrative departments, student groups with faculty advisors, or any team comprised of members of these constituencies. The Foundation suggests addressing perceived areas of improvement in the following areas:

Achieving CETL goals Student Experience Academic Excellence Customer Service Student Life College Recruitment and Marketing Improving Student Success Rates

CETL Mini-Grant and Travel Grant Process Guidance1) Attend a CETL grant-writing workshop, if possible.

2) Download the appropriate proposal form from the CETL website.

3) Fill out the proposal form completely, ensuring you provide adequate detail for all of the questions on the form. If in doubt about how much detail to include, please provide more detail rather than less. Feel free to contact any CETL member with any questions you have about the proposal form or the proposal process.

4) The committee that will review and approve the grant proposals will not know who you are by name. All they will know about your request is what you write on the application form. There will likely be more proposals than there are funds available. The more clear and detailed your written proposal, and the better the project itself, the more likely it is to be funded.

5) Submit your proposal no later than the published due date. Email your proposal as an attachment to [email protected]

6) Check your college e-mail account regularly in case the committee reviewing the proposals has some additional questions about your application.

7) If your proposal is accepted, you will be required to make a presentation to the College faculty about what you learned or the results of your project.

8) If your proposal is not accepted, you may be given feedback about why it was not accepted. You should feel free to apply again during the next grant cycle.

Suggested Mini-Grant Topics Include:(This is a list of possible topics. It is not intended to include every possible topic.)

1) Supporting work for any CETL initiative

2) Developing a way to apply a new technology to the classroom

3) Developing tools or programs that can benefit faculty or students

4) Developing new or innovative types of assignments or projects that can apply across the college, department or discipline

5) Creating a new campus facility that will help teaching or learning

6) Developing initiatives, programs or events with other local colleges hosted at SPC

7) Developing initiatives, programs or events with local high schools hosted at SPC

8) Developing programs in partnership with Dual Enrollment, Early College, or Collegiate High School

9) Developing programs in partnership with local businesses or government agencies

Projects requiring more than 1 semester to complete must be specified in the initial application by showing the extension completion date. INSTRUCTIONS: All interested full time and adjunct faculty applicants must complete and submit this application by the published deadline date for consideration by the CETL Grant Review Committee. TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION

Travel grants will be available annually beginning on July 1 for the upcoming academic year.

b) What type of presentation are you developing? (i.e. presentation, panel, focus group, poster session, etc.)

c) What is your expected program presentation group size, if known?

d) Provide a brief description (300 words or less) of your program presentation.

6) Provide an itemized list of your expected expenses showing total dollar amounts requested (include the conference registration fees, hotel costs, airfare, car mileage, tolls, car rentals, etc.).

7) Each travel grant recipient is required to conduct a presentation for the College upon return. Identify your presentation format preference. (For example, oral presentation, workshop, online module, etc.)
