MINDFULNESS AND SELF-COMPASSION, THE ART OF BEING KIND TO YOURSELF with Peggy DiVincenzoSaturday, September 26: 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., $60In this half-day experiential, practice-based workshop, you will learn the practice of self-compassion, an evidence-based method of getting through the toughest times of your life. We will cover the difference between empathy and compassion, the value of understanding and practicing compassionate presence, and clarifying why it is more meaningful and enduring than trying to maintain self-esteem. If you find youfrequently criticize or judge yourself or if you are dealing with difficult life situations, come and learn the ways to mindfully break the cycle of feeling bad about yourself while learning to be 100% behind yourself. Basic mindfulness meditation techniques will be covered. This retreat is appropriate for beginnerto advanced level meditators. Peggy DiVincenzo, LPC, LMFT has practiced vipassana, or insight meditation, since 1980, and is a certified meditation teacher through the Insight Meditation Community of Washington. She is professionally trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with Jon Kabat-Zinn, and has studied with meditation teachers from various traditions. Peggy has taught mindfulness meditation groups at The Health Advantage Yoga Center and at community mental health centers, and has taught individuals through her private practice in Centreville, Virginia.
SHINING A LIGHT ON SUN SALUTATION with Maureen ClyneSaturday, October 17: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., $30Sun Salutation, known in Sanskrit as Surya Namaskar, developed during the early years of yoga and provides the basis of todays Vinyasa practice. Traditional Sun Salutation is a series of 12 yoga poses that one moves through with rhythmic and conscious breathing. In this workshop, we will explore the symbolism, spiritual meaning, and benefits of each pose. We will also delve
into alignment principles for each stage of the series, and then bring it all together for one fabulous dynamic practice. Join Maureen as she shines a light on the essence of Sun Salutation. Yoga 1-2 and above. 2 CEUs.Maureens teaching draws on 35 years of personal Hatha Yoga practice. Since 1997, she has taught nationally for studios and teacher training programs, and leads the philosophy section of HAYCs teacher training program. Maureen combines her deep passion for yogas tradition with life experience to provide a practical and accessible interpretation of yogas often-heady principles. An avid student herself, Maureen has accumulated more than 1,800 hours of study, and two teaching certifications.
YIN YOGA TEACHER TRAINING BASICS with Pat P.Saturday, October 24: 1:00-5:00 pm, $60For most of us, our time on and off the mat is highly energetic and outwardly focused. Yin Yoga is a slow, healing, inwardly-focused style of yoga designed to balance the yang energies so dominant in our world and in our lives. The Yin practice cultivates an energetic balance with a quieter, more meditative, physical yoga practice. This workshop will offer yoga teachers, teacher trainees, and advanced students a basic introduction and the skills needed to add Yin Yoga to their repertoire. Workbook included. 4 CEUs.
SANSKRIT SAVVY with Kathy Saturday, November 7: 1:30 - 3:30 p.m., $30As a studentofyogayou will encounter Sanskrit, the language of yoga. Without some insight into this ancient language, we are like outsiders looking in. This workshop will give you a sense of being at home in yogas history in a lighthearted way. You will learn the names of common poses and body parts in Sanskrit, hear legends regarding the dedication of certain poses, andpracticea traditional Sanskrit chant. Finally, learn what those long words mean! Appropriate for students Yoga 1 and above. 2 CEUs.

YOGA FOR JOINT STABILITY with ErinSaturday, November 14: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., $30Increased flexibility is an acclaimed benefit of a regular asana practice, but too much joint mobility can lead to weakness or injury. This workshop explores commonly hypermobile joints (including knees, the sacroiliac joint, and elbows), identifies safer ranges of motion, and enhances joint stability by toning and strengthening the supporting musculature of the joint in question. Appropriate for students who have taken at least one session of Yoga 1-2. 2 CEUs.
EXPLORING SOMATIC YOGA with Pat P.Saturday, November 21: 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., $45Somatic Yoga is a holistic body-centered practice designed to assist people in integrating and transforming self. A key component is retraining the brain towards releasing chronic muscular tension by moving with conscious awareness and by being attentive to the internal sensations. Visualization, meditation, breathing, and relaxation exercises are also important elements. This workshop will focus on the spine, neck and shoulders, and will offer yoga teachers, teacher trainees, and advanced
students a basic introduction and the skills needed to add Somatic Yoga to their repertoire. Handouts will be provided.3 CEUs.
BLACK FRIDAY TURKEY BURN with Pat P.Friday, November 27: 11:00 a.m - 1:00 p.m., $30Join us for a two-hour post-Thanksgiving yoga practice. Breathe, stretch, twist and flow in a practice designed to detox, and stimulate digestion and metabolism. Burn those extra holiday calories. All levels welcome. 2 CEUs.
YOGA NIDRA with JanetSaturday, December 5: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., $30Imagine an hour of guided deep relaxation. Yoga Nidra is a technique designed to restore you physically, mentally, emotionally, and energetically. It is set apart from other forms of meditation and relaxation by the repetition of an intention, which is thus set in the conscious and subconscious mind. The result: resolve is strengthened and positive outcomes are more assured. Recharge your batteries and set your intentions at the cellular level! Wear loose-fitting, warm clothing, and bring your favorite soft pillow. A mild yoga practice precedes the meditation. No yoga experience necessary. Bring a friend!
SECOND SUNDAY YOGA CLUB with Kathy Sundays: September 13, October 11, November 8, December 134:00 - 5:15 p.m.Each class: $15More time on the mat with a teacher and props! This class, which meets the second Sunday of each month, provides a time and place to hone your practice, reinforce what you have learned in class, and have a teacher present for questions or suggestions. We will begin with a guided warm up and standing poses, then have time to play in poses of your choice: inverting, balancing, or back-bending, and conclude with a relaxation. Open to all levels. No preregistration required.

PRENATAL YOGA with ErinThursdays: 5:45 - 7:15 p.m.September 3 - October 22: Eight weeks: $128October 29 - December 17: Seven weeks: $112 Pregnancy is both a life-changing process and a natural opportunity for developing a more mindful approach to daily living. This course, for pregnant women, is designed to alleviate common discomforts and concerns of pregnancy, help you stay healthy, and prepare for labor and delivery. It is fun and appropriate for both new and experienced yoga students. The two courses will be different. The second course does not build on the first, so you may register for either one or both. Please obtain your doctors or midwifes permission in writing before enrolling.
AWAKEN YOUR INNER BODY with Pat P.
