On behalf of the entire Lawrence University community, welcome to Reunion 2015! We are delighted to have you back on campus for what we know will be a wonderful weekend .

Reunion brings together alumni, families, students, faculty, staff and friends for five days of events, entertainment and celebration of the places, people and programs that make us uniquely Lawrence . Please use this program to help customize your experience .

This weekend is the result of months of work and dedication by many in the Lawrence University community . I especially offer thanks to our Reunion planning committees, who have worked diligently over the past year with a goal of providing you the incredible opportunity to reconnect with friends to laugh, share stories and catch up on all that has happened since you graduated .

Reunion Headquarters

All guests are asked to check in at Reunion Headquarters upon arrival .

Reunion Headquarters is located on level two of the Warch Campus Center. Please stop by or call Reunion Headquarters at 920-419-6621 with any Reunion-related questions .

Reunion registration is required for select programming, along with all meals and housing . Pre-registered guests will find their selected programs, meals and housing assignments listed on the back of their name tags .

Walk-in guests are required to register at Reunion Headquarters . While we make every attempt to accommodate walk-ins, they are subject to space limitations .

What should I wear?While there is no dress code for Reunion, the following attire is recommended:

On Friday evening, business casual is the recommended attire .

On Saturday evening, sport coats for men and dresses or suits for women are encouraged for the class photos, receptions and dinners .

Sport coats for men and dresses or suits for women are recommended for all events at the President’s House .

A truly creative spirit, Elizabeth Ann Richardson was a prolific writer and visual artist whose work reveals many intimate and often humorous details about the life of a Downer woman in the late 1930s . This object-based presentation on Liz’s time at Milwaukee-Downer College and in the Red Cross during WWII includes a look at her journals, a selection of her

“Beulah” cartoons, her sketchbooks and watercolor and oil paintings produced in her studio art classes .

Smoking Policy

Lawrence strives to maintain a clean-air environment for the comfort of all persons . The smoking policy is as follows: All university owned, leased or operated buildings are designated smoke-free . In addition, a smoke-free zone of 25 feet around the perimeter of buildings will be maintained . All university vehicles will be smoke-free as well . Please note that the academic buildings fall within this area as does Hurvis Crossing and the area in front of Warch Campus Center .

Parking

Parking will be available in most Lawrence University lots throughout Reunion weekend, including the parking lot behind the bank located at 320 E . College Ave . Please respect the reserved sites for those with disabilities .

Street parking is also available in and around campus . Parking meter requirements are enforced at spaces that are metered, and your car will be ticketed if time has expired during the hours of enforcement . The city of Appleton prohibits parking on city streets from 2–5 a .m . Cars may be ticketed .

Reunion guests staying in Sage Hall may unload luggage in front of Sage, but are asked not to block the paved driveway for others . Immediately after your luggage is unloaded, we suggest you park in the Lawrence lot at the corner of East Alton Street and Meade Street for the weekend .

Overflow parking is available, thanks to our neighbors at Emmanuel United Methodist Church (corner of Meade and College, 740 E . College Ave .) . You may park your vehicle here on Friday and Saturday only .

NOTE: Please do not park in the Memorial Presbyterian Church lot on Meade Street .

8 a.m.–3 p.m. Day Trip to Björklunden Discover or revisit Lawrence’s beautiful northern campus located on Lake Michigan in picturesque Door County . Spend the day touring the historic chapel, hiking the many nature trails or relaxing on the lakeside decks .

Please meet at the Wriston Art Center turnaround on Lawe Street at 7:45 a .m . on Sunday, June 21, 2015 .

Coach transportation will depart promptly at 8 a .m . There is a two-hour travel time to Björklunden .

Please check out of your residence hall prior to leaving for Björklunden . You may store your luggage beneath the coach .

Dress for the outdoors to truly appreciate your visit . Have a wonderful time at Lawrence University’s northern campus .

ALUMNI AWARDS

The Lucia Russell Briggs Distinguished Achievement Award

Presented to an alumnus or alumna of Lawrence University or Milwaukee-Downer College of more than 15 years for outstanding contributions to and achievements in a career field. This award honors Lucia Russell Briggs, second president of Milwaukee-Downer College and one of the most beloved and influential figures in that college’s history.

Christopher Murray ’75, political advisor for the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, is being honored for his leadership, vision and service to the United States and our citizens around the world . He was the U .S . Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo from 2010–2013 . Over the course of his Foreign Service career, he has led in Department of State assignments across Africa and the Middle East, and has represented

the United States at missions including the European Union, the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization . Under his direction was the timely evacuation of 15,000 American citizens from Lebanon during an outbreak of war in 2006 . Ambassador Murrary credits his liberal arts education as essential in equipping him to analyze, synthesize and communicate effectively through the crisis .

The George B. Walter ’36 Service to Society Award

Presented to an alumnus or alumna of Lawrence University or Milwaukee-Downer College who best exemplifies the ideals of a liberal education through its application to socially useful ends in the community, the nation or the world. This award honors George B. Walter ’36, faculty member, coach and dean of men, whose work at the college and beyond was guided by his conviction that every individual can and should make a positive difference in the world.

James Lace ’70, pediatrician, is being honored for his selfless sacrifice and heartfelt compassion for the welfare of humanity . An inspired champion of children, he has been widely recognized for his legislative efforts toward greater health care access and improved safety and wellbeing of those in his home community of Salem, Oregon . James also teaches medical students at Oregon Health & Science University . His work extends beyond the United

States border . As an advocate, teacher and fundraiser, he serves on the board of several NGOs in Tanzania, and has been tirelessly committed to caring for those who have been injured or become ill as a result of regional catastrophes, including a tsunami in Sri Lanka and earthquakes in Haiti and Peru .

The Gertrude Breithaupt Jupp M-D’18 Outstanding Service Award

Presented to an alumnus or alumna of Lawrence University or Milwaukee-Downer College after their 15th Cluster Reunion who has provided outstanding service to Lawrence University, this award honors Gertrude Breithaupt Jupp, voted Milwaukee-Downer alumna of the year in 1964 for her long-standing service to the college as president of the alumnae association board, class secretary and public-relations officer.

Sue Pepper Joys M-D’51 is being recognized for her service to the Milwaukee-Downer Class of 1951 and steadfast support of Lawrence University . Devoted alumna, she provided valuable leadership to the Lawrence University Alumni Association board of directors, has served as a long-time class secretary and, most recently, was a member of the 50-Year Connection planning committee in 2013 . Sue has served on planning

committees for her 60th, 50th and 40th reunions . She also gives back to Lawrence philanthropically through loyal support of the Lawrence Fund and provisions to support student financial need through the establishment of the Pepper Family Scholarship .

Susan Nelson Goldsmith ’65 is being honored for serving the college in a number of meaningful ways . She currently serves on the President’s Advisory Council and is a Legacy Gift Planning class chair . From 2001–2007, she served as a valuable member of the Board of Trustees . She has been instrumental in planning this year’s 50th Reunion, serving as a Class of 1965 co-chair and has previously served on committees for her

35th and 40th reunions . A strong advocate for all students and the power of a liberal arts education, Susan is a loyal supporter of the Lawrence Fund, faculty and student scholarship .

Presidential Award

Presented to an alumnus or alumna of Lawrence University or Milwaukee-Downer College whose exemplary leadership and notable actions have contributed to the betterment of the entire Lawrence University community.

Dale Schuh ’70, retired chairman of the Board of Directors at Sentry Insurance, is being recognized for his extraordinary commitment and compassion as a business leader, alumnus and community member . Under his guidance, Sentry Insurance doubled in size and net worth, acquired two companies and added more than 300 employees to its home office, fueling the Stevens Point economy . Extending his community impact, Dale has

served for more than a decade in volunteer leadership roles supporting an active, informed citizenry . He credits Lawrence University for shaping his vision and gives back through service on the Board of Trustees, fervent support of Career Services and support of first generation college students .
