Congratulations on another Great Year!
It was a fantastic year both on and off the ice for our Moorhead Hockey kids. On the ice, our girls and boys were committed, gave great effort, showed improvement, and performed admirably under pressure. That resulted in great learning experiences, many wins, tournament championships, and post season successes at all levels. The Boys Spud Varsity team won the Section 8 title advancing to state, and we had 8 MYHA teams advance to Regions with 6 of them playing in the final game for a chance to get to state! We did have 3 teams in Moorhead Youth Hockey advance to state tourna-ments with our Peewee B Black team earning a 3rd place fin-ish, 12U A finishing 4th, and our Bantam AA finishing Conso-lation Runner Up.
That commitment and effort manifests itself in many ways in our young kids’ lives. No better example than the performance of our hockey players in the classroom this past year. The Spuds Girls posted an impressive team GPA of 3.88 and the Boys team posted a 3.77. And, our youth players displayed similar academic excellence. We had 345 girls and boys apply for the MYTEAM award with 326 of them earning the award with an equivalent GPA greater than 3.0.
Congratulations to our young kids for all your accomplish-ments on the ice and in the classroom! Rob Gramer MYHA Executive Director Off Season Office Hours

Cullen Hockey Center Project Update
Construction
Construction on the 3rd sheet of ice is progressing as much of the steel building is up and work to enclose it will continue through the spring months. And, our new Zamboni has arrived!
Funding
Phase 1 is being funded by the City of Moorhead and MYHA through a bond issuance which has been approved by the City of Moorhead! Phase 2 will be funded by money raised by MYHA. To complete the addition we currently have nearly $3.2M pledged and are over half way to what we need to raise! We are working closely with other interested corporate partners, grant opportunities, and individual donors to get the remaining funds needed to complete the project. We will need the support of alumni and members to help get to our goal. If you are interested in contributing to this project contact Rob Gramer at 701-371-9497 or [email protected]
Thank You
This project is not possible without the support of community partners and supporters of MYHA. Thank you to all of the following for their contributions to this project and their commitment to the future of our community and our kids!

18th Annual MHS/MYHA 4-Person Scramble Golf Tournament Meadows Golf Course
Not All Champions Win Championships By Anonymous Parent, 03/19/19, __________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hey kiddo,
I know this is not the way you drew it up in your head.
In your head, you and your teammates were throwing your equipment in the air and raising the champion-
ship trophy to the rafters for all of us crazy parents to capture with our cellphones. In your mind, you were
going to be celebrating with your coaches and friends as champions.
But instead, you watched it happen from the other end of the ice—or watched what you could with your
head hung low.
I know it stings. Seeing the disappointment on your face as you skated back toward the locker room was
heartbreaking and feeling the sadness in your postgame hug was gut wrenching. I know how badly you
wanted this one, and I would give anything for you to be able to live out your dream.
But let me tell you kiddo, this wasn’t the first tear-jerking loss I’ve witnessed, and I know it won’t be the last.
It may take a little time, but I promise you, that you will move past this loss. The feeling of being oh, so
close, may never go away, but eventually, it will be overpowered by fond memories of your team’s journey
to this point and experience of the weekend. And what a rush it has been watching you and your team
come together the way they did!
I didn’t sign you up for hockey to win championships. In fact, it’s not why you wanted to play to begin with
either. I remember it going something like this:
“Mommy, can I please play hockey with Jack and Lucy? Pleeeeeease.”
While you wanted to get into hockey to play with your friends—a reason I hope always keeps you in the
game—believe it or not, I signed you up for these losing moments as much as anything.
I know you’re going to roll your eyes and groan ‘oh mom’ at this one, but I put you into hockey for the life
lessons you’re bound to learn along the way (because, yes kiddo, you’re learning something).
Winning is fun, don’t get me wrong. And I want to you enjoy a win and aim for it every chance you get. But
winning doesn’t teach you how to grow. It’s the pursuit of success, and the ups and downs along the way,
that are the true value of sports.
As we saw with your team this season, it’s easy to be excited to go to the rink, work hard to improve and
be a good teammate when your team is rolling. It’s when you face tough losses, challenges and even
outright struggle that you really learn about yourself and what it takes to succeed in life.
So buddy, you lost. And I really wish you didn’t have to feel like you do right now, and I wish you guys
were crowned champions because you all worked so darn hard for it. But, with the way you competed to
the very end and represented your community, I couldn’t be prouder of you.
The ending scoreboard needs its winner and loser, but no single outcome will ever define you.
You’re not always going to be on the winning side, no matter how hard you try. But learning to lose with
grace, picking yourself and your teammates up and knowing that you tried your hardest is just as big of a
reward as a first-place trophy in my mind.
So chin up, kiddo. You guys had an incredible season. Thank you for letting dad and I be a part of it. Win
or lose, we can’t wait for next year.

• Tuesday, April 16th from 6 - 7:30pm
• Monday, April 22nd from 6 - 7:30pm

Any skater that will not be using the equipment over the summer, and wants to return it, can do so at this time. If they choose to keep the equipment, new paper-work must be filled out, along with a new deposit check. After paperwork is filled out or equipment is returned, we will return the deposit check from the 2019-2020 season. Please remember to bring all equipment with even if you are planning on re-leasing.
Exchanges: This year we WILL be doing equipment exchanges during the above designated times.
Mite/8U skaters going to be 1st yr Squirt/10U: We will be leasing equipment for the summer months. Again, new paperwork and checks will have to be filled out, and the equipment will need to be returned in August during hockey registration.

Moorhead Boys Hockey Update (4/19)
The 2018-2019 season is in the books. What a fun group of kids! As many of you know, we were able to win the Section 8AA title and played two games in the 2019 MSHSL Boys Hockey Tournament. In the seeding pro-cess we drew the #1 overall seed Edina and ultimately fell 4-2. The next day, we were beat by Duluth East 3-2. Although we did not win either game in St. Paul, it was quite the season. We finished with an overall record of 21-8-1 and were the Section 8AA Academic Champions with a team GPA of 3.77. The seniors on this years team were Thomas Horan, Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe, Nolan Westra, Kyler Kleven, Gavin Fullmer, Nick Searls, and Ethan Miller.

We will discuss this past year and what to look forward to in the upcoming

Expansion!

Chad Marsden OCCUPATION: Business Owner, Alpha Omega Developments Inc and Alpha Omega Construction, LLC
I have two sons and one daughter. All three have participated in MYHA over the past twelve years. Currently, I have a son that is going to be a 1st year Pee Wee and a daughter that is a Rookie.
I have been a board member for the last three years and I am looking to renew my term for another three years. During my first term, I was involved with Travel Jersey distribution, the Goalie Equipment and other equipment related items. I am also a member of the Executive Committee as well and the Construction Committee for the new rink expansion.
In addition to my board member positions, I have also coached over the past twelve years; from Rookies through Pee Wees.
I have experience in running two operational companies in which I am an owner and board member. Additionally, in my former career in banking, I was a member of several committees within the bank as well as in the community.
I believe the work and time spent over the last three years would allow me to help MYHA continue its growth plan. With the construction of the third sheet of ice, the next few years will present both opportunities and challenges that come with the expansion of the facility and operations. The experience gained over the past three year will give me a head start in helping meet those challenges.

Mark Skauge OCCUPATION: Parksite – Building Products Distribution
My daughter is in the Moorhead Youth Hockey program, and just finished her first year of 10U hockey. She was very sad to see the season end and is looking forward to lots of summer hockey. She is not look-ing forward to breaking in a new pair of skates...
This past season I helped coach the 10U girls as an assistant coach with my daughters in house and 10UB travel team. I have been helping coach since she was a rookie and have had a lot of fun working with the girls and watching them grow as players and young people.
In the past I have been on several committees that have been involved with different aspects of stream-lining flow through a hardwood Plywood Mill in order to try and lower the level of defects and shop accumulation. I have also been involved in several local committees in the lumber industry with my for-mer employer that dealt with different Lumberman’s Associations in the tri state area.
I think I would make a good MYHA Board member because I am committed to helping the program grow and am always looking for new ways or ideas to help improve the program. I have offered ideas to possi-bly help in different areas of the program from hockey pucks with the MYH logo to sell in the pro shop to possible fundraising opportunities. I have sent my suggestions to the MYH board in the past to help the program.

Michelle French
Occupation: Title Abstractor/Customer Service Manager at Red River Title Services
My name is Michelle French and I have been a resident in Moorhead for almost 7 years. We
moved to Moorhead from East Grand Forks, MN in the summer of 2012 for better healthcare
options for our special needs son Ryker, more air travel options for my husband’s business, and a
position was open for the Moorhead City Clerk in which I was the East Grand Forks City Clerk for 9
year so the job would be easy transition.
We will have 3 children in the MYHA program for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Rookie 1 will
be Corbyn, Rookie 3 will be Bryson and 2nd Year Squirt or 2nd Year 10U will be Jaylie.
I have been a parent coordinator for Jaylie’s team for four consecutive years and Bryson’s team
for two consecutive years. We committed to a 3 year sponsorship for a Team at MYHA starting
with this year. I served on the Hockey Mom Group for its inaugural year. I have volunteered
with registration and supervising the players during My Team awards. My family is a constant
presence at the arena as we were there nearly every day of the week. If I was running the time
and horn for shift changes, then my husband was keeping order on the bench during Rookie 2
games. During a typical Rookie 2 practice you would see our daughter Jaylie on the ice to assist
and mentor the young kids and especially the girls. Having no mom coaches at our son’s level, my
daughter wanted to help out and give the little Rookie girls a role model out on the ice.
Prior to becoming a Title Abstractor, I was City Clerk for the City of East Grand Forks for 9 years
and the City of Moorhead for 6 years. Due to my position, I was limited to serving as staff liaison
for the Charter Commission with the City of Moorhead and the Civil Service Commission for the
City of East Grand Forks. I have attended Council Meetings for 15 plus years as City Clerk. I have
been on a number of ad hoc committees such as budgeting/finance, health insurance, and web-
site rebuild.
I feel I would be an asset to the MYHA Board for the following reasons:
• I have a daughter in the program and I would like to be a part of continuing to develop our girls program into a consistent State Contender.
• Having 3 of my 4 kids in the program means our life commitment to hockey at a youth level is ‘all in’.
• With 6 years of Parent Coordinating, Learning the ins and outs of the program I want to be a part of its decision makers for the future.

Lee Disse Territory Manager for GULFEAGLE SUPPLY: Distributors of Roofing & Building Material Products
I have one child in MYHA. He is 12 years old: 2018-19 season he played as a first year PeeWee. My son joined MYHA 2 years ago when my wife and I moved our family from Detroit Lakes to Moorhead. Our son has been playing hockey since he was 6 years old, plans to continue to play as long as he can. We also have a 2-year-old son that will more than likely follow in his brother’s footsteps, therefore my level of commitment to MYHA is strong. I have not yet had the opportunity to be involved in MYHA other than as a parent of a player and what that entails.
Prior to moving to moving my family to Moorhead in 2017, I was an active member of the Detroit Lakes volunteer Fire Department of 9 consecutive years. During that time, I served on the Fundraising Board in which I was in charge of all aspects of fundraising. I met with local business owners to line up donations and organize fundraising events such as banquets, dances & open houses. I served on the Safety Board where I oversaw reviewing and updating safety protocols and ensuring changes were implemented within the department. I served on the Entrance Committee where I was directly involved with the hiring of all new candidates and oversaw their training and monthly reviews during their one-year probationary period. I served as a Trustee and was in charge of reviewing and revising the department bylaws and overseeing disciplinary actions. While on the DLFD I was elected Captain and successfully served 4 years.
Since moving to Moorhead a little less than 2 years ago, I have met a lot of new people, made good friendships, and strong ties to the community. My experience both in life and career have taught me good communication skills, and how to work well with others. I feel my past Board experience and volunteer work make me an excellent candidate to serve on the MYHA Board. With only one child currently in hockey and one on the way, I have a vested interest in the success of MYHA. ***********************************************************************************************
Rachel Alderson
OCCUPATION: Business Owner, Revive Professional Massage Therapy Clinic Fargo ND and ReLAKES Professional Massage Detroit Lakes MN
I am the mother to 4 Children, Thomas Senior MHS, who is a 'graduate' of the MYHA program. Caleb 8th Grade Horizon, will be trying out for the High School Team, Luke 7th Grade Horizon will be a 1st Year Bantam, Selah 7 yrs old 8U/Mite.
Our family is very involved in MYHA. My husband Tom has coached all of our boys from Rookies thru Squirts. We enjoy being a part of the MYHA family and volunteering in helping at our home travel games, filling in when needed. I have enjoyed past roles of volunteer coordinator and parent coordinator for several or our boys past team. I currently am on the MYHA board on the fund raising committee.
As a Massage Therapy Instructor, I have been involved in boards and committees for Sister Rosalinds Schools and Clinics of Massage, Globe University, Josephs School Of Massage Therapy. My role in these programs involved development of students, curriculum, Continuing Education, and job placement.
I have also served as a part of the parent group that brought Lacrosse to MHS as a Varsity sport for boys and girls. In addition I have served on the Moorhead Youth Lacrosse board in its first two years. That program serves youth age 8U to 14u.
My experience in owning a business and running a household with 4 active children has only played into the attributes I feel would make myself a valuable board member. Organization, delegation, and time management to name a few. But most importantly, I am a mom, I love my kids, I love hockey, and I am passionate about this community and organization. If given the opportunity to serve those loves/passions I will do it with a tenacity, a fresh perspective, and the highest level of commitment. I would like to continue my run and see the process of the new ice come to completion as well as continue my service on events such as the Moms Spring Event. My goal would be to help this become an annual event that honors and celebrates families and their service to MYHA as well as raises money for the programming and other needs of the organization.
