Celebrating our 46th Snowmobiling Season!

President’s Message—Ozzie Ausloos

Ready, Set, Go

Remember when we were kids we would race each other and those were the words we would use to start the race. In fact when we were older and wanted to race each other on snowmo-biles those were the words we would use. Our snowmobile community uses similar words when we describe the snowmobile season.

Ready: Jim and Al have completed the mechanical portion of the brushing. We had a great turn out of members for our annual brushing day. Steve and Ozzie with the help of several members have the signs in order. My guess most of our members have their sleds ready or a plan to get them ready. Set: Assuming all of our preseason work is complete this word should be changed to WAIT. That is the stage we are in right now, waiting for the ground to freeze and some help of the white stuff and we will be ready to GO!

Go: I know how eager we are to start snowmobiling but please stay off the trail until they are officially open. We will receive word from the county as to when the official start date is and we will open the gates and you’re ready to GO. Have a fun and safe sea-son. Ozzie

Merry Christmas &

Happy New Year

from your Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club

Officers & Board of Directors

Trail Boss—Jim Wendt I really don't know what to make of this November weather. It has been great for the trail work that gets done just be-fore opening but the much needed freeze before opening has been painfully absent. We need to get those swamps and lakes froze up before we even think about working ON the trails. My only hope is that we avoid last years big snow on top of unfrozen ground......that caused some soft spots that never really froze completely until after New Years. Your driver staff is selected, meetings have been held, and assignments have been made which means WE are ready!!!!! I hope you have all received your trail passes (remember those things) and got your iron all spiffed up and ready to go. My next report hopefully will have some riding updates. Please remember my plea for rags in the groomer barn. If you have any spare rags, just put them in a plastic bag and leave them in front of the barn door..... they will be very helpful on maintenance day. Thank You! HAPPY TRAILS... Jim

Treasurer Report—Ed Siergiej We would like to THANK the Weber family from Camp’s St. Germain Sentry Foods for their continued support of the club thru their Community Dollars Program. Since the start of this fundraising program they have given back $1,155 dollars to the club. Please remember to sign your cash register receipt with CD22 and place in the basket on the Customer Service counter when shopping there. Thanks again Bruce, Mary & David!

Secretary’s Report—Kay Schultz Well we’ve had our first taste of snow for the season. About an inch fell the other night but the 50o tempera-tures took care of that. So I guess it’s time to start rev-ving up your snow dances. A couple of inches here and there would be a good start for the upcoming season. Something new this year—the St. Germain Chamber, which is a huge supporter of our club, is putting on a Christmas parade on Saturday, November 28th. The club has decided to decorate one of our groomers and drive it in the parade. All of the festivities will run from 5:00-7:00 pm. So if you’re in town for the Thanksgiving holiday, why not join the fun in downtown St. Germain. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Membership News—Margie Klingsporn Well we haven’t really seen any of the white stuff yet; but, if we do I know there will be 677 very happy Bo-Boen Members. (That is the official count as of November 10th.) My deep appreciation to all of you for your patience while I have processed all of those applications. It amazes me that the club has grown so much this year. We definitely are keeping the AWSC office busy. Our list of new and renewing members and donations has a new look to it. The format has changed with donations being designated by a dollar sign next to the members’ names. This makes the lists a bit easier to read, as they aren’t so long. It also keeps the newsletter within the page limits for those that are being mailed out. If any of you have questions about your membership, please feel free to direct them to me at [email protected] or 715-479-2028. Keep dancing the snow dance so we get some early snow to start grooming the trails. Have a wonderful Thanksgiv-ing with your family and friends. Membership Count

How to meet new people Meeting people can be hard to do for some people. It is a multiple step process, and step 1 is to join a group or organization. If you are reading this newsletter you have already completed step 1 by joining the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club. What a great choice you made, we have a great bunch of members coming from all walks of life with one common thread……snowmobiling. We all can’t agree on the brand of snowmobile to ride but that adds to the fun. The 2nd step in meeting people is to get involved. Coming to meetings is a good way to get involved but another and more important way is to volunteer at some of our fundrais-ers. We just happen to have 2 fund raisers coming up and we are looking for volunteers. On Jan 29 & 30 we will be manning the Food Tent at the Radar Run and we will also handle parking and crowd control. We will be needing upwards of 20 people each day. The shifts are normally 3-4 hours and what a great way to meet people. If you’re interested please contact: Food Tent Parking Steve Soltwedel 262-949-8930 Ozzie Ausloos 920-420-4520 Diane Dieter 715-542-2913 Don Baumann 715-891-2707 We are also serving food at the Groomer Show on Feb 3rd & 4th. If you are interested please contact Jim Wendt 715-891-1610. As a side note the food service is heated at the Radar Run and inside at the Groomer show. The 3rd step in meeting people is to take a leadership role in the organization you’re a member of. We are always looking for people to bring new ideas and skills to our club. Kindly call any of our board of directors if you are interested in taking on a leadership role.

Be sure the lake is marked

before you ride across it!!!

Snowmobile Safety Education Class December 29 & 30, 2015

Beginning January 1, 2001, any person born on or after January 1, 1985 and who has reached the age of 12, must have completed and received a snowmobile safety certificate in order to operate a snowmobile in Wisconsin. The certifi-

cate must be carried while operating the snowmobile, and displayed to a law en-forcement officer upon demand. Snowmobile Safety Education Classes are of-fered in the fall and early winter, and should start appearing on the DNR’s web site within the next month or so. All students are required to obtain a Wisconsin DNR Customer ID# as part of the criteria to graduate from any Recreational Safety Class and provide that num-ber to their instructor. Students can obtain a DNR Customer ID# from St. Germain Sport Marine during business hours or by calling 1-888-936-7463 between 7 am to 10 pm. You can also visit a Wisconsin DNR Service Center during their regular scheduled hours. For additional DNR Service Center hours and locations go to www.dnr.wi.gov and click on the “Contact US” tab located at the top. The Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club’s Snowmobile Safety Education Class will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 29 & 30, 2015. Anyone 11-1/2 years of age or older is eligible to take the class and receive a safety education certifi-cate; however, the certificate does not become valid until the child reaches 12 years of age. Pre-registration is required by calling Peggy Ausloos at (715) 542-3548. If you can donate a couple of hours of your time to help with registration, cook-ies or bars, grading of tests or helping outside with the machine test, please call Peggy Ausloos at (715) 542-3548. Again this year Judy & Chuck Berard will be making lunch for the kids and are requesting helpers from 11:30 to 12:15. If you could lend them a hand please call them at (715) 479-6659.

The Air, The Forest and The

Watch Print Raffle Again this year, Don & Marie Bauman donated another signed, numbered and framed print to the club to be used for a raffle. This years print is “The Air, The Forest and The Watch” by Robert Bate-man. It is 23” x 34.5” and tickets are available anytime at St. Germain Sport Marine or at Club Dinner Meetings. For those of you out of the area, you may also send money with your membership renewal and make a note what the ad-ditional funds are for. Tickets are 3/$5.00 or 7/$10.00.

Arrowhead Groomers Show February 3 & 4, 2016 Ever wonder how the snowmobile trails stay in such great shape? Walker Equipment, home of Arrowhead Groomers, located here in St. Germain, hosts the Arrowhead Groomers Show, one of the largest groomer shows in Midwest. Stop out and see equipment displays and demonstrations. Food concessions are run by and will support the local Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club.

Seasons Eatings It’s that time of year again. A time to open our hearts to those less fortunate than us. Once again, at our annual Christmas party at Whitetail Inn, we will be collecting non-perishable food and personal care items for the Vilas Food Pantry. Items that

are needed most are cereals, granola bars, canned meat, boxed dinners, peanut butter and toiletries such as sham-poo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. Of course, money is always appreciated. The food pantry works with local gro-cers to get vouchers for meat and fresh fruit and vegeta-bles. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

The Future of Snowmobiling in Wisconsin Depends on You

Ride Responsibly

Please obey posted speed limit signs on all town roads. Speed limits will be strictly en-forced. The use of roads is a privilege that

may be taken from us if we do not use them carefully.

Get well wishes were sent to Joan Crawford following back surgery. Prayers of condolences were sent to the family of Judy Best, owner of Idle Hours Resort who passed away November 16th after battling leukemia for almost four year. Also in-cluded in our prayers are the family of Rocky Caffarella who passed away unexpectedly last month. Rocky, a Cross Coun-try Cruiser member was very instrumental to the snowmobi-ling community. Please call Arlene Rieckenberg at 715-542-3066 when you have information on births, of members who are ill or hospi-talized and need a bit of cheer, sympathy or encourage-ment.

Annual Club Raffle

Again this season we will be running our club cash raffle. There will be four

raffle tickets sent with your membership renewal form. The tickets are $5 each with a maximum of 2,000 tickets sold. First prize is $2,500, second prize is $1,500, third prize is $500 and fourth and fifth place prize is $250 each. The drawing will take place at our dinner meeting on March 8, 2016. We would also like to THANK The New Twilight Bar & Grill for paying for the print costs of the raffle tickets.

Help Wanted—Trail Assistance Chair

The current Chairperson has taken a new job within the club, “President”, and would be looking for a person to step up and assume this leadership position. This person must have a strong personality displaying leadership skills, or be willing to work with a bunch of nice guys helping out at a couple of fund raisers. Call Ozzie at 715-542-3548 for a personal interview.

This little Brown Sign Could Save Your Life!

Vilas and Oneida County Snowmobile Clubs have placed brown, 3 digit number signs throughout the County at key intersections. In the event of an emergency, the 911 operator will ask for this number. Their emergency response system can identify these numbers and give important information to rescue personnel.

So pay attention to these intersection Number signs. They can save lives!

Apple Dumpling Gang The Apple Dumpling Gang had the kick off dinner Nov. 7, at the Clearview Supper Club. We had 48 people there enjoying a great time and a great meal. We are planning our first ride on Wednesday, De-cember 16th snow permitting. We will meet at the groomer barn which is located behind the Fire Sta-tion and leave at 9:00 am.
