For Fast Business OutcomesCloud-Managed ITNC97-733595-00 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Cisco ConfidentialGood morning (afternoon). Thanks for joining me today as we discuss an innovative way of managing your network from the cloud.

Just as the cloud has become a vital source of computing, application, and development resources, it can also be used as a bona fide vehicle for managing your IT and networking environment.

Now, its not the only approach to IT management. In fact, Cisco has two best-in-class solutions: cloud-managed and on premise.

However, today, well be discussing the cloud-managed option, called Cisco Meraki Cloud Managed IT. Its got some advantages, particularly if managing lots of branch sites without much local IT expertise at each location. So its worth considering as a valuable addition to your bag of management tools and tricks.

Cisco ConfidentialBy now, were all pretty accustomed to thinking about tapping into a private or public cloud as a way to get instant access to resources software as a service, development platform tools, even compute and storage. And were getting pretty familiar with cloud benefits. Lets review them:

Cloud technology is always kept up to date, relieving us of those maintenance and reinvestment burdens. We get an agile network, which has the ability to keep pace with the business. We can serve our immediate IT needs almost instantly. We often save money because:oWe can easily take advantage of the clouds economies of scale as our businesses grow.oWe dont have to place and pay people at each site to constantly buy, install and test equipment, update configurations, load new software versions, and apply security patches to local equipment.

2Why Your Management Model Matters70 percent of businesses say network operations are holding them backIT must empower growth in ways such as digital accelerationSource: Information Age: Keeping the Lights On Stops CIOs from Innovating (Survey) One option is to examine how your IT environment is run and to seek improvements.NC97-733595-00 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. Cisco ConfidentialThese same benefits that weve come to covet when accessing software as a service or platform as a service also apply when we use the cloud as an IT management vehicle. The tools are continually updated and honed for our quickly changing IT environments. Local IT isnt required. And we get instant economies of scale.

This is why we care about cloud and applying cloud concepts to managing our networking and IT resources.

Studies reveal that a majority of businesses feel that the complexity of network operations is getting in the way of business advancement. So IT must figure out how to make things simpler so that they can free up the business and empower growth.

One ripe area of opportunity is to simplify the management process, and this is where the cloud enters the picture.

Going this route lets you benefit from the agility and simplicity of cloud and the flexibility and robust functionality of traditional models. To support this approach and enable consistency across the hybrid IT model, Cisco delivers the following to you:Consistent IT policy with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) You get a single user access policy across on-premise and cloud-managed networks instead of aligning multiple databases. In other words, the Meraki cloud-managed IT solution integrates with ISE to authenticate, authorize and account for end-user devices. Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) With ACI, you can integrate with 3rd party network management systems to automate, orchestrate, deliver custom reports, and develop data-driven service offerings. Regarding ACI strategy, Cisco will expand cloud-managed IT to have consistent policy automation with the on-prem model. All rights reserved. Cisco ConfidentialLets look more closely at the business benefits that might inspire you to add the cloud-managed option to your portfolio.

First, theres the ease of using a Web dashboard to manage all your remote sites. This allows you to hire more generalists instead of deep experts. Its easy for others to pick up running the system, because its designed for most workers to be able to use. So you need fewer resources to manage your environment.

And with unlimited resources in the cloud, you can scale your network and management environment from very small to very large with little extra cost and complexity.

Also, the setup is basically future-proof because it is agile and easily changeable. The cloud provider updates the system; you dont worry about that.

Finally, there are network and location analytics that tie business intelligence in with the management system. They not only reveal data relevant to managing the network and other IT resources. They reveal information about how customers, patients, students, and others are using your resources and where they are and what they are doing. So you can make better business decisions and engage with consumers.

NC97-733595-00 2015 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Cisco ConfidentialThe more taxed IT becomes with growing business demands, the more and better automated tools we in IT need to centrally manage and secure a consistent environment across borders. Its grown nearly impossible to manually keep with an installation here, an upgrade there, a security patch over there, when branches and mobile devices are dispersed all over the country and even the world. And when new apps are rolling out by the minute.

To handle these new challenges, Cisco Meraki hosts a cloud solution that integrates all the tools needed to manage a diverse, distributed, and increasingly mobile environment. That means that you get, out of the box:MDM for handling the billions of smartphones and tablets out there; Traffic management and shaping for making sure rich media applications perform to user expectations, andAnalytics so that you can deploy new services and apps and determine if they are leading to new customer engagements and how you might even use them for still more opportunities.

We refer to this capability set as full-stack Meraki in that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. For example, if you use MDM from Meraki, the MDM will automatically configure WLAN and VPN settings from the security appliances, which also double as routers. Because the functions are integrated, they work together to correlate information and deliver benefits that neither alone would be able to do.

All rights reserved. Cisco ConfidentialLets get more specific about some of the things you get and can do using Cisco Meraki cloud management.

1) You have the tools to shape and control both wired and wireless traffic throughout your organizations. Throttle, block, or prioritize application traffic with deep packet inspection (DPI)-based fingerprinting. And set user and group-based shaping rules.

2) And you get optimization tools for avoiding interference and dynamically adjusting channel usage and power levels depending on whats going on in the RF environment right then. So you dynamically avoid interference and optimize RF channel selection and power levels to deliver a better mobile device experience.

3) You are also able to fine-tune the wireless environment so that slower devices dont bog down the performance of faster ones a capability we call airtime fairness. And so that all traffic moves smoothly even when the air is dense with signals from lots of Wi-Fi infrastructure and client devices that can potentially cause interference and slow response times.

4) There are Bluetooth analytics for tracking beacons and interacting with customer and Wi-Fi analytics for locating where customers are. Network traffic analytics, mentioned earlier, helps you understand what your customers are looking at and what their interests are.

Getting people on and off the network securely when apps and devices now circumvent data center firewalls has created the requirement for a whole new management and security overlay. One to deal with anytime, anywhere computing and communications, now that traditional network perimeters dont exist and cant be managed in traditional ways.

There are still good reasons to use premises-based management in parts of your global network, most notably in data centers and aggregation layers of your networks. But for the nimble and dynamic branch, where new services are emerging daily with business revenue attached to them, consider the central, cloud management and maintenance tool that gives you a birds-eye view into all your emerging and changing edge deployments.
