Tactics for knights
Most of the time the knight rode on his war horse, while using a lance so he could gain momentum and charged at his opponent
Footmen
•Usually chosen from the peasant class
•Not well trained soldiers
•Main job-protect the archers
•Did this with a glaive (long spike pole)
•Wore a padded coat and used buckler shield for punching

Archers
• Important in open battles• Always used the deadly longbow• The least amount of armor out of
the three types of soldiers• Could shoot 15 arrows per min.• Also hide behind a movable shield

Welsh Longbow
• Also known as the English longbow • Is about 6 feet tall• Rate of firing arrows up to 1 arrow for
every 5 seconds • Compared to the crossbow, which shoots
only 1 arrow for every 2 minutes and requires a winch to reload.
Tactics for Archers
Knight’s horse is particularly vulnerable to an arrow especially in the head, neck, or back. If an arrow brings down the horse, it will bring down the rider and pin the rider to the ground by the horse’s and armor’s weight.

• Occurred on October 14, 1066 on Senlac Hill
• Occurred because both William the Conqueror and Harold II of Wessex wanted to take the place of King Edward the Confessor
• Norman’s army about 7,000 - 50,000
• Anglo-Saxons had an army about 7,500
• Battle over in 9 hours with a victory for the Normans
• About 5,000 dead Anglo–Saxons and about 3,000 dead Normans

• Occurred on August 26th 1346 in Northern France• English-16,000 troops including longbow archers • French-estimated high to 80,000 troops included
6000 Genoese crossbow archers. • French’s estimated casualties include 11 princes,
1,200 knights, and 1200 soldiers, while the English’s casualties were a few hundred troops
• Marked the first used of Cannons

Battle of Agincourt
• Occurred October 25th, 1415 in Northern France
• English-5,000 troops • French-30,000 to high as 100,000 troops. • Downpour of rain soaked the plough land,
therefore flinging up mud. • Estimated the French suffers death of 6,000
to 10,000 troops, while the English suffers only losses in the hundreds.
