Things look to be on the up this year in Longbridge

By Callum Freeman

Jobs may be scarce this year in Longbridge, but opportu-nities for new ones seem to be arrising every single day. There have been numer-ous rumours about all man-ner of companies taking up the empty space rendering most of Longbridge useless. There has even been ide-as of a Hollywood style film studios to occupy the area, al-though the chance to see film stars is an exciting prospect for locals, it doesn’t throw up the kind of jobs for your average Joe that the Rover plant did. In the crunch many

locals have been forced to seek new work or ben-efits after over 5,500 work-ers lost their jobs at the MG Rover plant in Longbridge. However there is now spec-ulation that a new chinese in-dustry, ACR, will take over the free space and build a factory that offers thousands of work-ers new job opportunities. Longbridge locals are re-portedly very excited for this prospect as it is the most prom-ising yet, ACR are reported in saying that a meeting will take place on the first Sunday of December to decide whether or not the deal will go through.

Birmingham’s Best CollegeCadbury College, Kings Norton was awarded the Ofsted prize for Birminghams’ best College

By Robert Jones

On Ofsted’s anual visit to Cadbury Sixth Form Col-lege, Kings Norton, they were “rather pleasently suprised” by the outstanding level of success and enthusiasm “all students displayed.” The College describe the students as “hard working, motivated individuals” and “and inspiration to all in the educational system,” the col-lege also say “we could not have done this without them.” Cadbury College is lo-cated just off the Redditch Road, Birmingham which the college say provides ease

of access for all students who attend, from all areas in and around Birmingham. The College achieved a phe-nominal pass rate last year, and the year before were consid-ered the best Sixth Form col-lege in Birmingham because of the tremendous amounts of students passing the Courses with flying colours. All Teachers are report-edly very happy with the progress made and are very proud of the students and their brilliant A-level results. So Cadbury College is now the proudest col-lege in Birmingham.

Granny Mugged By Youth

By Callum Freeman

Last week, an elderly lady, Eida Gumbert, was attacked by a “vicious group of youths” who left with her mobile phone and beat her near to death with her own walking stick. One hour later Eida was in Selly Oak hospital being nursed for her several wounds and many bumps and bruises, she said “I cannot believe that the youths of today would hit me like they did, I can now believe the bad press that these sorts of mobs bring upon them selves.” Eida was appalled at the youths and decided on tak-ing police action while in her

local hospital. When the police arrived, Eida was ques-tioned straight away, she told her side of the story but unfortunately could not remember the individuals who carried out the attack due to a severe concussion, docotors said, Eida said she felt “con-fused” and “uncomfortable.” Eida lives alone in Northfield and has never had any trouble before, she regu-larly catches busses and uses other means of public trans-port. Eida has said that she “al-ways looks on the bright side of life, what ever i throws at me.”

Students At TGBS Raise Over £1000 For Cancer ResearchBy Luke Pollard.

Year 10 Students at Turves Green Boys Technology and Humanities College have re-ported that they have raised over £1000 for Cancer research UK in the space of only one single day. Many students per-formed in a musical concert where tickets were £4 per person and wowed the au-dience, recieving copious amounts of brilliant feed-back and endless praise. Alan Inglis said “the students did us and the char-ity proud today, if it wasn’t for the musical talent at this school then we would be no where near our target of £1000, the lads did re-ally really well for us today.” Aswell as the con-cert there were cake sales and fun activities for par-ents and students and anyone who attended to take part it. There was a fun run which had over 200 partici-pants and ran from the school all the way to Longbridge old rover plant and back again, the participants were spon-sored and raised an amaz-ing amount for the charity. Jordan Freeman, a part-organizer for the event, had a chance to briefly speak to us, he said, “ I am very happy with the results today, although it was not all fun and games, everyone had a great time and we all felt very accom-plished by the end of the day.” The headmaster was also reportedly extremely hap-py with the amount of money raised for Cancer research, “the students did an extremely good job and no-one will ever take that away from them, they have done themselves, the school, the charity and the community extremely proud and all of us here at TGBS are very very proud of them. TGBS also thought that it could be an idea to show that not all youths are the same and have showed that today indeed.
