A few parents have asked that we keep their child
in at playtimes. We think that there are very, very
few times when children are not able to go outside
for some fresh air for 10 minutes. If a child is too
poorly to go outside, a teacher would notice, and
contact parents. Please make sure your child is able
to wrap up warm at playtime, especially after a
spell of illness!
Year 5 Basketball Miss Glossop will be taking 10 of our Year 5
children to a Basketball Competition at Hinde
House school on Wednesday … good luck to the

classes to visit the library on Friday 23rd March.

them if you are able to join the class on their trip!

What Attendance looks like at St Catherine’s 2017/18
Our target for the Academic Year 2017-18 is 97%
We think that attendance is extremely important at St Catherine’s and work hard to make
sure your child has the best opportunity to achieve.
We celebrate success in Attendance in a number of way:
Sport Vouchers for Good Attendees
Letter home to celebrate improved attendance when move from under 95% to over
95%
Early Bird Week to celebrate whole class punctuality with a class chosen treat
End of Year 100% Attendance Trip to Pizza Hut.
We are going to keep celebrating this and well done to all the children who have fantastic
attendance.
If your child is absent due to illness, please inform school as soon as possible. If we don’t
hear from you, you will receive a phone call or text from school asking for reasons for
absence.
When issues arise around the attendance of your child/ren, you will notified in the
following ways:
Firstly, you will receive a letter if your child’s attendance is under 95% for the Spring Term.
This is an information letter making you aware of the issue. There may be reasons for this
which will be taken into account.
If your child/ren’s attendance does not improve in the following half term, you may be
invited into school to have a discussion with the Attendance Team about how we can
support you to improve the attendance of your child. On occasion, you may be asked to
provide medical evidence for your child/ren’s absences.
All holidays requested in school time will not be authorised, unless there are exceptional
circumstances. Please be aware that taken unauthorised absence during term time may
result in a Fixed Penalty Notice.
Punctuality is also monitored by our Attendance Team. Any child who has more than 3 times,
in a half term will receive a letter as a reminder for this to improve. If there are no
improvements, you may be invited into school to explain the problems that are arising.
If you have any concerns regarding your child/ren’s absences, please get in contact with the
Attendance Team.
Thanks,
Mr. Mitchell and Ms Winterbottom
