Artist’s impression of the new Meadowbank Wharf viewed from the river
This update provides important information about the start of work to upgrade the Meadowbank Wharf and interchange and upcoming night and early morning work required.
The NSW Government is upgrading Meadowbank Wharf and interchange as part of the Transport Access Program. Work will start on Thursday 3 December 2015 and take about five months to complete, weather and maritime conditions permitting. Ferry services will continue to operate to the wharf during construction however there will be times when safe operations will not be possible and some changes to the timetable will be required. Transport for NSW will provide up to date information about changes to the timetable during the upgrade of Meadowbank Wharf. Plan your trip before starting your journey by calling Transport Info on 131 500 or visit transportnsw.info to use the trip planner.

NEW MEADOWBANK WHARF AND INTERCHANGE TEMPORARY WORK SITES FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE UPGRADE Construction activities will include:
} Setting up the site – installing fencing, site hoarding and site sheds
} Installation of piles – some of this work will be noisy
} Installation of wharf entry platform, bridge, gangway and pontoon
} Modification of the existing wharf entry shelter
} New wharf fit out
} Removal of existing pontoon and gangway
} Construction of new pathways and ramps in the interchange
} Reconfiguration of parking including kiss and ride and accessible parking
} Installation of bicycle racks
} Installation of wayfinding signage and lighting.
Equipment on site will include water based construction vessels including barges, cranes and service boats. Workers and equipment will usually be transported by water to minimise impacts on local traffic. There will be impacts and restrictions to vessel navigation and all vessel operators should navigate with caution when near the construction zone. Some construction traffic movements will be required, particularly for land side work.
The standard work hours for the project are 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm Saturday.
Some work will be required outside of standard hours when water is at its calmest and when ferries are not operating to the wharf. Some work, including installation of piles, requires very still water for safety and accuracy. Nearby residents will be notified before any work is carried out outside of standard hours.
NOTIFICATION OF EARLY MORNING AND NIGHT WORK
Work to install piles for the new wharf will be carried out soon after the start of on-site work. This will require early morning and night work on some days between Friday 4 December 2015 and Friday 8 January 2016 as installation of piles requires calm water. Early morning and night work can be carried out between 11pm and 7am seven days a week. Hammering of piles is restricted between 5am and 7am.
The piling work, including drilling and hammering piles, will be noisy. The hammering will be carried out intermittently, with multiple one minute periods of hammering. We thank you for your patience during this work and apologise for any inconvenience.

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT DURING CONSTRUCTION
ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT AT TIMES WHEN FERRIES ARE NOT OPERATING TO MEADOWBANK WHARF OR SERVICES ARE LIMITED
The work schedule for the upgrade is being planned to minimise disruptions to F3 Parramatta River ferry services to Meadowbank during construction.
Ferry services will continue to operate to Meadowbank Wharf during construction, however there will be times when safe operations are not possible and the wharf may need to be closed. Customers will be advised in advance of any temporary closures.
At times when ferries are not operating to Meadowbank, customers can connect to train services at Meadowbank Station – an eight minute walk from Meadowbank Wharf. Customers will also be able to catch the existing 513 bus service from Meadowbank Wharf to connect to bus services on Victoria Road to the city and Parramatta, or to train services at West Ryde Station.
Transport for NSW will provide up to date information about changes to the timetable during the upgrade of Meadowbank Wharf. Plan your trip before starting your journey by calling Transport Info on 131 500 or visit transportnsw.info to use the trip planner.
