• It’s the leading global foodservice retailer with more than 30,000 local restaurants in more than 119 countries each day.

• Its headquarters are located just outside Chicago, in Oak Brook, IL.

McDonald's aim to be the World’s best fast service restaurant experience.

Major competitors

Around the world, the main competition comes from Burger King, but in the USA, competitors also include Wendy's, Taco Bell, and Subway.

AT THE BEGINNING…

1948 Richard and Maurice McDonald were pioneers of McDonald's and the quick service restaurant industry. They opened the first Mc Donald’s in San Bernardino, California.

1954 Ray Kroc becomes the exclusive national franchise agent for the McDonald brothers.

1955 He opened his first McDonald's in Des Plaines, Illinois in April 1955, and founded the company that evolved into McDonald's Corporation

• He started his career with McDonald's in 1971 as a restaurant manager trainee in Carpentersville, IL.

• He advanced quickly and held numerous positions in the U.S. company.

• He was elected McDonald’s Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer by McDonald's Board of Directors in November 2004.

McDonald's is structured along functional lines.

Areas of activity:

• Operations (equipment and franchising)

• Development (property and construction)

MAIN PRODUCTS

• McDonald's menu concentrates on five main ingredients: beef, chicken, bread,

potatoes and milk.

• Some of its World’s favorite foods are: French Fries, Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, Chicken McNuggets, Egg McMuffin, and the 'McFlurry' ice cream.

• McDonald's continues to be recognized as a premier franchising company around the world.

• To set up a franchise with McDonald's costs at least £200,000. Potential franchisees need to contribute at least a quarter of this sum. Partnerships are not allowed to set up a McDonald's franchise.

Conclusion

Mc Donald’s is a company that wants to improve constantly its service but also wants to make a difference.

They have a commitment of giving back to the communities in which they do business. How…? Making donations, helping foundations, and everything related to environment care.
