On the guided tour of the Château you’ll see the library, the coun-cil room (which is shaped like a military tent) where receptions anddances took place, and the lounge which houses many period paintingsas well as Josephine’s harp. The charm and authenticity of this castlehave been lovingly preserved.

RouenCapital of the Upper Normandy region, Rouen is the historic capital ofNormandy and was one of the most prosperous cities of medievalEurope. From the 16th to the 18th centuries, the city produced and wasrenowned for its “Porcelaine francaise”, the first ‘soft-paste porcelain’ ofFrance which mimicked the ‘true porcelain’ of China. The pieces weremainly white with minimal blue decorations and sealed with an intenseblue glaze. Today the city is noted for its surviving half-timbered build-ings and many museums including an art museum with paintings byMonet and Géricault. On an included walking tour, discover the historicdistricts including Place du Vieux-Marché, an historic town square thatwas the site where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake and today is dom-inated by the church of Saint Joan of Arc. See the gothic Notre DameCathedral, one of the highlights of Rouen, which was a subject of manypaintings by Claude Monet, some of which hang in the Musée d’Orsay inParis. Free time will be available foryou to visit museums or meander through the lanes of this historic city.

Caudebec-en-CauxAlthough most of the town was destroyed by fire during the SecondWorld War, it has managed to preserve the 13th-century House of theKnights Templar (a rare example of a residence from this period) and theChurch of Notre Dame, built in flamboyant Gothic style with beautifulstained glass windows. The included excursion begins with a panoramiccoach tour of the city, known as the “Pearl of the Seine Valley”. JumiègesAbbey, a Norman Abbey from the Romanesque period, was originallybuilt in 654. It was destroyed by the Vikings and restored in the 11thcentury by their descendants. It was later described by Victor Hugo as“the most beautiful ruin in all of France”. During a visit to the ruinsyou’ll see the cloisters and the ruins of the Church of Saint Peter. As yousee the spiritual Abbey of Saint Wandrille, admire how the classical archi-tecture blends with the magnificence of medieval heritage. A congrega-tion of Benedictine monks settled in the Abbey in 1931 and there are stillapproximately forty monks in the community today. At the end of theexcursion, return to the ship by coach.

Uglich – History of a DynastyThe provincial town of Uglich was the former seat of princedom back inthe 13th century. Uglich is the town where one of the most momentousevents of the Russian history took place in the 16th century. It was thenthat the last member of the Ruirik dynasty, the young Tsarevich Dmitry, was murdered. That dreadful event gave rise to what later became knownas the time of trouble which lasted for 15 years before the Romanovdynasty began. Today’s Uglich does cherish its history and you can stillsee the relics of the past such as the Church of St. Dmitry on the Blood.Built in 1690 on the spot where Dmitry had been murdered, it appears onthe horizon with its red walls and blue domes as one sails on the Volga.

Tropical ParadiseCosta Ricans have a lot to smile about - secluded palm-shelteredbeaches, lush rainforests, lava-shooting volcanoes, tropical rain andcloud forests, an abundance of wildlife, fine coffee and a peacefulsociety. Discover the best of Costa Rica!

San José Our journey begins in the historic capital of San José at a delightfulcasino hotel. There is time for a swim or massage before dinner asour busy schedule flows into Costa Rica’s mystical tropical paradise.

Poás VolcanoEnroute from San José to the La Fortuna area, visit Poás Volcano, one of the most spectacular volcanoes in Costa Rica. Poás has a longhistory of large eruptions, first producing a cloud of hot ash fivemiles high back in 1910. Look down from its mile-wide rim to agigantic boiling cauldron of steaming geysers. Then continue to theDoka Coffee Estate for a tour followed by lunch.

Arenal - Room with a ViewA volcano in the front yard? That’s what the village of La Fortunaboasts. We can see its awe-inspiring cone first thing in the morningand the last thing at night, as our room has a view of the ArenalVolcano. In addition to the volcano, the area is rich in natural won-ders. On our arrival day, we see hot springs and beautiful waterfalls, hike easy, fragrant trails, swim or just dangle our feet in shady poolsfed by waterfalls and surrounded with lush, tropical greenery. Thevillage of La Fortuna is ringed by mountains and inhabited byfriendly folk whose little shops may offer the perfect memento.

There are few places on earth where one can observe an active vol-cano, and we will spend a day near Arenal Volcano, one of the mostactive volcanoes in the Americas. Since it erupted 400 years ago, ithas continued to light up the night sky. From our observation point,we feel the ground tremble and see smoke that billows from theearth’s molten core rise to join the clouds. After a day of adventure, relax at the Tabacon Grand Spa followed by dinner with lovely views

of the resort’s hot springs, lush tropical gardens and Arenal Volcano. While in La Fortuna, we enjoy a full day excursion to Caño NegroNational Wildlife Refuge, a remote “everglades” type of wetlandsteeming in different species of flora, fauna and birdlife. This is trulya unique experience, showcasing the natural beauty of Costa Rica.

Jungle Crocodile Safari We take a boat trip on the Tarcoles river located near CararaNational Rain Forest Park. This adventure combines nature with thebreathtaking experience of viewing American Crocodiles at nearproximities. This ride takes us inside the mangrove canals and theTarcoles River, having the opportunity to watch many differentspecies of birds.
