2 About the sessions and the KEY TIMEExaminations must be taken in the morning or afternoon timetable session asshown on the FINAL timetable.
All candidates entered for examinations in a session must be under FullCentre Supervision at the KEY TIME. If Centres timetable examinationsoutside of the KEY TIME they must keep candidates under Full CentreSupervision until they do start the examination; or if they have alreadycompleted the examination, they must be kept under Full Centre Supervisionuntil the KEY TIME.
The KEY TIME will be expressed as GMT/UTC. Centres will need to convertthe KEY TIME in GMT/UTC into their local time. To check the differencebetween GMT/UTC and your local time please visit the CIE website atwww.cie.org.uk/keytime
The KEY TIME for the morning session is 09:00 (GMT/UTC).

What does under Full Centre Supervision mean?
Candidates can be in the examination room, doing their examination, underthe supervision of invigilators.
Or, if the KEY TIME is before the start of the examination, they must besupervised by teachers or invigilators from the KEY TIME until the start of theexamination. They can have access to their books and notes, and they cantalk to each other. However, they must not have any access to telephones, mobile phones, the Internet, or any means of external communication; andthey must not be allowed any communication with anyone not under FullCentre Supervision.
Or, if they have finished their examination, they may be permitted to leave theexamination room provided that they are supervised by invigilatorscontinuously from the time they leave until the KEY TIME. Once outside theexam room, they can have access to their books and notes, and they can talkto each other (provided that they do not cause any disturbance to candidates
who are still doing an examination). However, they must not have any accessto telephones, mobile phones, the internet, or any means of externalcommunication; and they must not be allowed any contact with anyone notunder Full Centre Supervision.
Failure by a centre to comply with the Regulations regarding the KEY TIMEwill be considered Maladministration by CIE and may result in CIE beingunable to accept candidates work.
Centres must report to CIE any incidents or irregularities amongst candidatesunder Full Centre Supervision, including any access to unauthorised means ofcommunication. Such instances will be treated as Malpractice.
3 Centre Arrangements
Centres are responsible for letting candidates know when their examinations

Centre arrangements must fully comply with all Regulations including thosefor the KEY TIME.
4 Where there is more than one paper in a single session
4.1 If a candidate is entered for two papers which are timetabled for the sameexamination session, they may have a short fully supervised break betweenthe two papers. The Regulations regarding the KEY TIME must be followedand the candidate must be under Full Centre Supervision during this break.
4.2 If a candidate has to sit two papers in one session, the second question papermust NOT be given out until the time allocated to the first question paperhasbeen allowed and the scripts for the first paper have been collected.
This rule applies unless the rubric of either of the question papers gives adifferent instruction.
5 Time Allowance for Question Papers
Any time specially allocated for candidates to read through question papersand to study maps, etc., is already included in the total time allowanceshown in the timetable. You must not allow any additional time.

8 Timetable clashes
If a candidate is entered for two papers that are timetabled for the samesession, the rules to be applied depend on the total duration of the twopapers.
If the total duration is 3 hours and 45 minutes or less:
both papers should be taken in the same session with a supervised breakbetween the papers. Regulations regarding the KEY TIME must be observedin full. You do not need to notify CIE about this.
If the total duration is more than 3 hours and 45 minutes:
you must submit a Timetable Deviation Form 9 (INT/E24) to CIE.
Please note that whenever there is an approved timetable deviation, candidates taking an examination at a time that is not the scheduled session, must be kept isolated from candidates who have already taken the paper, andmust be under Full Centre Supervision from the KEY TIME for the
examination until the time they actually take the examination.
If CIE is unable to confirm that candidates have been kept under Full CentreSupervision from the KEY TIME for the examination until the rescheduledexamination time then CIE may be unable to accept the candidates work.
For further information about timetable clashes, please refer to theappropriate section of the CIE Handbook for Centres 2010.
