Celebration the FATIMA Anniversary Year of 2017
Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence opportunity throughout the Fatima Anniversary Year of 2017
There are three ways of obtaining the indulgence. To obtain the plenary in-dulgence, the faithful must also fulfill the ordinary conditions: Go to confes-sion and Communion, be interiorly detached from sin, and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. In addition you must perform one of the following: 1 – Pilgrimage to the Shrine Make a pilgrimage to the Fatima shrine in Portugal and participate in a celebration or prayer dedicated to the Virgin. In addition, the faithful must pray the Our Fa-ther, recite the Creed and invoke the Mother of God. 2 – Prayer before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima Visit with devotion a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the anniver-sary of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October (2017): there devoutly participate in some celebration or prayer in honor of Our Lady. 3 – Application for the elderly and infirm Those who, because of age, illness or other serious cause are unable to get around well, can pray in front of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima and spiritually unite themselves to the jubilee celebrations on the days of the apparitions, the 13th of each month, between May and October 2017. You also must “offer to our merciful God with confidence, through Mary, their prayers and sufferings or the sacrifices they make in their own lives.”
At Saint Barbara we will host the exposition of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima on the 13th of each month of the apparitions (May through October of this year)
May 13th from 12:00pm to 3:30pm
12:00pm: Gathering & Welcome in the Church 12:15pm: Recitation of the rosary in Vietnamese, Spanish and English 1:00pm: Talk on the Message and Secrets of Fatima (Church-Vietnamese ; Hall-Spanish; Big Annex- English) 2:00pm: Movie "The 13th of May" with popcorn, nachos and drinks

Lord Jesus Christ, Redeemer of the world, you have shouldered the burden of our weakness and borne our sufferings in your own passion and death. Hear this pray-er for our sick brothers and sister whom you have re-deemed. Strengthen their hope of salvation and sustain them in body and soul, for you live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

Fr. Anthony’s Faith Formation Corner The Event of the Resurrection of Jesus
I would imagine that sometimes during the Easter season, I should say something about the event of the resurrection of Jesus. The message pro-claimed by Peter and the other apostles that the crucified Jesus had been raised from the dead was the central message of early Christianity. But the New Testament (NT) does not claim that anyone has seen the resurrection and makes no attempt to describe it. This is rather remarkable, since accord-ing to the late biblical scholar Raymond Brown, this event has been regarded by Christians of all time as the supreme intervention of God in human history, the supreme miracle. If indeed it were the supreme miracle, why was it never described in details by the NT writers? Furthermore, what is striking about the NT accounts of the appearances of the risen Lord is their ordinariness. The appearances occur under very ordinary circumstances: not during ecstasy (like Acts 10:9 ff., 2 Cor 12:2-4); nor in a dream (Joseph and the angel of the Lord, Mt 1:20, 2:12ff.); nor with the traits of apocalyptic glory (the transfigura-tion, Mk 9:2-8 et al.). Again, if it were the supreme miracle why did the NT au-thors not include any extraordinary phenomena when speaking of it? Among the six accounts of the resurrection in the four Gospels (Mk 16:1-8, Mk 18:9-20, Mt 28:1-20, Lk 23:56-24:53, Jn 20:1-29, and Jn 21:1-23), Mary Magdalene is mentioned in five of these six—and when mentioned, she is always the first person named. This is rather remarkable given the role of women as witnesses in the ancient world: they were not considered credible witnesses at all. NT writers, though divinely inspired, were also greatly condi-tioned by their cultures and history. The fact that they had Mary Magdalene as the primary witness of the resurrection of Jesus must say something about the authenticity of the event. One more thing to note: we can never imagine the psychological distress the disciples had to go through in or-der to proclaim the resurrection of Jesus. Both publicly and psychologically it would have been a lot easier for them to proclaim him as a martyred prophet. Jesus was perfectly in line with John the Baptist and many persecuted prophets. But his disciples proclaimed more than just that: they spoke of his resurrection, not a common belief among the Jews and the disciples themselves. Given the religious milieu of the time, it was extremely distressful for them to proclaim the resurrection of the Messiah, still that of a failed Messiah—an absolute novelty in the Jewish tradition. Some Jews did believe in the general resurrection at the end of time; but to speak of the resurrection of a failed Messiah…impossible. Given these few observations about the nature of the resurrection, we must conclude that, even if we prescind from faith, and look at this event purely from a historical perspective, there must be some truth to this event of the resur-rection. And that is what we celebrate during this Easter season. All the passion and death of Jesus would have meant nothing without his resurrection…

ST. BARBARA CATHOLIC SCHOOL Open Arms. Open Minds. Open Hearts.
Teaching Students to have “Open Arms. Open Minds. Open Hearts.” St. Barbara Catholic School is far more than a public school with religion class, discipline, and morality added. Our teachers and staff are Disciples of Christ who can help our students develop a rela-tionship with Christ Himself. As a center of evangelization, St. Barbara Catholic School assures that all students: understand the Gospel message, receive the skills and information to make choices based on their faith, and learn how to live their lives in faith and love. St. Barbara’s faith-based curriculum enables students to develop “Open Arms. Open Minds. Open Hearts.” through the Social Teachings of the Church. The teach-ings can be included in subject areas other than religion, such as the responsibility to care for God’s creation in science and care for the poor and vulnerable (social justice) in social studies. With the mission of Catholic education fulfilled, St. Barbara Cath-olic School graduates have the power to make the world a better place by modeling Christ to others.
