Wonderful Writing

Kate The Lazy Witch!! By Leyla

Once upon a time there lived a witch named Kate who was extremely lazy. One day, when Kate was making a potion, she got the ingredients wrong. Instead of turning a baby elephant into a black cat, she turned it into a volcano, and it exploded! She almost killed herself! Being lazy has other problems too, you know. For example, today Kate lost her eyesight, but she was too lazy to get glasses so she turned blind. Unfortunately and unusually, she got up to feed some Cheerios to her pet tarantula (which her tarantula did not like!). On her way down the stairs, she slipped on her broom (which she didn’t put away) and fell down, down, down. She finally landed on the pavement and broke her ribs! All the days she lived after that (which weren’t too many), Kate learned her lesson: Never to be lazy again.

The Pen by Stephan

This play is about an argument that occurs in a family. Sister: Stephan that’s my pen. Give it back! I don’t care if you take it or I take it, it’s still my pen. Me: (I take the pen) Sister: Mom, Stephan took my pen! Mom: Stephan, give your sister back her pen. Dad: (Coming in from work) How’s it going, honey? Are the kids OK? Mom: We’re having a problem. Dad: What? I’m sorry I was just looking at that hamburger in the kitchen. Mom: Really? Really!!! Dad: Is something going on? Are we having a problem? Mom: That’s exactly what I said! Sister: (interrupting) Mom! Stephan still didn’t give back my pen! Mom: Stephan give your sister’s pen back already! Me: Fine. Here. (I throw my pen at her head by accident) Sister: (Starts to cry) Stephan threw my pen at my head. It really hurts. (still crying) Mom: Stephan say you’re sorry, go to your room, and no more TV for the rest of the day.

Light Energy

By Teodora, Jackie, Dante, and Kevin

This is what we learned about light. First, we learned that we need light to see. Next, sources, like the sun or lamps, emit light, which travels in a straight line until it hits an object. Then, light reflects off the object to our eyes so we can see it. All materials reflect light. Some materials transmit light, which means light travels through them. All materials absorb some light. Dark things absorb a lot of light. Colors like white and yellow don’t absorb too much light. Some materials, like black felt, do all three things. They reflect, absorb and transmit light. Here is a ray diagram to show what we mean.

Monthly Debate

Q: Should schools have more music than gym? Lily Rose: Yes!! Schools should have more music and less gym. You can learn instruments so when we get older you will know how to play instruments. And another reason is that if you start to play an instrument, it will sound terrible but if you practice it will sound better. If you are better you will sound perfect. And practice makes perfect. Also, if you learn an instrument, you can teach it to someone else, like a younger sibling. That’s why I want more music and less gym. Tyler: NO!!   Schools   should   have  more   gym   than  music.   Gym   should  happen  two  times  in  a  day.  Music  is  not   exercise.     Gym   is.     Gym   is  healthy   for   you.     It   can   get   you  skinnier  and  stronger.     If   there   is  a  weird   time   that   you  might   need   to  save   someone’s   life,   then   gym   can  help   you   do   that   but   if   you   learn  music,  you  can’t.    Also,  you  might  be  in   a   contest   like   pulling   trucks   or  throwing   boulders   and   you   could  win   a   lot   of   money   if   you   are   in  shape.  Finally,  you  could  be  famous  for   being   the   strongest   man   or  woman.  So,   I   think  you  should  stop  learning   music,   and   do   gym   right  away!

MATH QUESTIONS We give a question and you solve it. Send your answers to room 211. Don’t forget to write your name and teacher. Don’t forget the question of the month. NO CALCULATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This  is  Ken-  ken.  (to  the  left.)            The  puzzle  below  is  Sudoku.

Every Sudoku puzzle has a unique solution that can be reached logically. Enter numbers into the blank spaces so that each row, column and 3x3 box contains numbers 1 to 9.

Question Of The Month

  985 x 835=

Ken-Ken  Directions.   Fill the grid with digits. Don’t repeat a digit in a row or column. The digits in each, heavily out- lined box or boxes (called cages) will produce the target number (in the left corner) by the math operation shown (+, -, x , ÷) in the cage. For single box cages, simply enter the number shown in the corner.

For example, the notation +4 means the numbers in that cage should add up to 4. A 3x3 grid uses numbers 1-3, A 4x4 grid will use the number 1-4 and so on.

If you like these Ken-Kens but are confused, please come to Rm. 211 and ask for help.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

By Eric

This book was about a hungry caterpillar. He was so hungry that he ate until he got sick. He ate through a whole picnic. How can the sick caterpillar feel better? To find out, you have to read the book. I thought it was very interesting that the caterpillar became a butterfly. The caterpillar built a cocoon. He stayed in the cocoon for more than two weeks. He left the cocoon and became a butterfly! I recommend this book because I like caterpillars. I also liked the pictures because they are filled with real holes. You can follow the hungry caterpillar as he eats his way through this colorful book.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

By Jeff Kinney

This book is about a boy named Greg who writes about his summer and his annoying brother Rodrick. Rowley is Greg’s best friend and they get into trouble. Greg is my favorite character because he is funny. I recommend Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules to all 4th graders because it will make you laugh your head off. So read it!!

Harry Potter Series By J. K. Rowling

This series is about a wizard named Harry Potter. His mother died and so did his father. They died from Voldomort when Harry was just a baby. Voldomort tried killing Harry, but Harry just got a scar. And now he lives with his greedy aunt and uncle and their bratty son Dudley. Harry doesn’t know he’s a wizard, but when he finds out, he goes to Hogwarts. My favorite character is Nevil. I like Nevil because he is really clumsy. In most of the classes, he either faints or gets hung on the chandelier. I liked this book because there is always something exciting going on. Harry and his two best friends, Hermione and Ron, solve every problem that happens in this book.

Other Books in Series 1: Sorcerer’s Stone 2: Chamber of Secrets 3: Prisoner of Azkaban 4: Goblet of Fire 5: Order of Phoenix 6: Half Blood Prince 7: Deathly Hallows
