MATERIALS COMPLIANCE ANALYSIS

OBJECTIVE Materials Compliance Analysis enables managers and design engineers to view materials compliance information originating from Materials Compliance Manager.

OVERVIEWMaterials Compliance Analysis compliments Materials Compliance Manager as part of an overall materials compliancy business process. Materials Compliance Analysis is targeted for managers and auditors who serve the role of a “compliance reviewer” and product design engineers that need to create environmentally friendly products

All users of Materials Compliance Analysis can assess, search, and view enterprise and manufacturer equivalent parts (MEPs) to assess a compliancy.

• Search and view conflict mineral declarations and smelters.• View product and supplier BOMs and associated compliance

properties.• View material declarations including the lifecycle state

and reported part BOM information, including compliance properties.

• Run reports for RRR (reuse, recycling and recovery), RoHS, Battery, WEEE (Waste in Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive), and ELV compliancy.

During product design, Materials Compliance Analysis exposes compliance information directly in Product Engineer. Reports are available to compare the compliance of manufacturing equivalents, list recyclable content, or evaluate best and worst-case manufacturing location scenarios. This provides critical information to product design engineers when making choices based on customer and/or market requirements for new products.

Users of Materials Compliance Analysis have no access to the advanced functionality of Materials Compliance Manager such as viewing material or substance data, editing, importing, or exporting data, and running reports that expose detailed substance information.

Materials Compliance Reporting Searching for Parts and Viewing Part Search Results

Compliance reviewers can search for enterprise parts and MEPs with results viewed in table with an editable layout.

Searching and Viewing Material Declarations and Reported Parts

Compliance reviewers can search for material declarations and view details such as properties and lifecycle progress. From the properties page, the reported part can also be viewed.

Searching and Viewing Conflict Mineral Declarations and Smelters

Compliance reviewers can search for conflict mineral declarations and view details such as properties, status, lifecycle state, smelter lists, and product lists. Reports can also be generated to view conflict mineral reporting status or rolled up smelter information for all or selected products.

Viewing Individual Parts

Materials Compliance Analysis users can view the compliance properties of enterprise parts while navigating the part’s BOM. They can also view related MEPs, customer part numbers, and reference documents. Users cannot view related materials or calculated substances information of parts, which is only available to compliance engineers using Materials Compliance Manager.

Running Part Reports

Compliance reviewers can run the following reports on enterprise parts, MEPs, and reported parts:

• Compliance – View calculated compliance of the parts in a BOM.

• Compliance Scorecard – View compliance of parts in a scorecard report for a selected set of compliance definitions.

• Best/Worst Case Analysis – View and compare the compliance of the MEPs associated with parts in a BOM; for compliance reviewers, this report is read-only, which means that the selected equivalents cannot be updated with this report.

• RRR (reuse, recycling and recovery) –Determines the percentage of a BOM that can be reused, recycled, or recovered.

• Battery –Determines the count and weights of batteries in products broken down by battery type and technology.

• WEEE (Waste in Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive) – Determines the weight of products and components broken down by generic or country-specific WEEE classifications.

• Supplier – View the manufacturer parts reporting status for a selected set of suppliers from a search or for a selected set of product BOMs; the report includes calculated metrics such as the percentage of the MEPs in a BOM that are reported.

• Unreported Parts – View the reporting status of the parts in a product BOM.

In order to run these reports, the parts must be rolled up and up-to-date in terms of calculated compliance values. The compliance reviewer can request a roll-up of selected parts to be done by a compliance engineer.

BOM Materials Compliancy Compliance Display in the Bill-of-Materials

As design engineers use Product Engineer to navigate the bill of materials (BOMs) and build product designs, calculated compliance values are displayed in part search results, engineering bill of materials (EBOMs) reports, alternative parts listings, and manufacturer equivalent part summaries. Calculated compliance values include the directives loaded into Materials Compliance Manager when industry-specific data management options are installed.

• If the End-of-Live (ELV) data management option is installed, compliance values for ELV and prohibited and declared Global Automotive Declarable Substance List (GADSL) data will be visible.

• If the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) data management option is installed, compliance values for RoHS (EU, California, China, and Korea), and JIG will be visible.

• If the REACH data management option is installed, compliance values for EU REACH and EU REACH XIV will be visible.

• If the Packaging data management option is installed, then the EU and US Packaging compliance values will be visible.

Materials Compliance Manager can also create additional calculated compliance definitions that will be visible to users of Product Engineer.

Enable/Disable Components for Materials Compliance

Product design engineers can selectively enable or disable component parts for materials compliance. When enabled, the component’s compliance values are calculated and rolled up in the EBOM to compute product compliance. Engineers can disable component parts that are exempt from product compliance such as packaging and process-related parts so that they are not included in the calculations and do not influence the overall product compliance.

Roll Up

Product-level compliance is marked out of date as design changes are made or component parts are enabled and disabled. Product design engineers can recalculate compliance by rolling up the compliance of component parts in the EBOM to the product level.

Reports

Product design engineers can invoke the following reports:

• Compliance – Displays a table of compliance to industry directives for every part in a product’s EBOM.

• Recycled Content – Summarizes the post-industrial and post-consumer recycled content in a product’s EBOM.

• Unreported Part – Displays the component and manufacturer equivalent parts that do not have reported compliance data.

• Best/Worst-Case Analysis – Allows design engineers to view the compliance of the various manufacturer equivalent parts for components of a product’s EBOM.

Review Materials Compliancy Status with BI Essentials

BI Essentials can be configured with a compass quadrant devoted to materials compliance. The user can select the value of compliance (compliance definition) to be displayed and the representation of the part will be colored to reflect the compliance value. The hover capability can be used to view additional information regarding compliance, including the exemption information if the part is compliant with exemptions.
