MASSDOT COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UPDATE #2 The UNIT ‘E’ COLLECTIVE BARGAINING COMMITTEE has formally commenced contract negotiations with MassDOT. At our first meeting on April 16th both sides introduced themselves to each other and made opening statements. Ground rules were discussed and prepared for each side to review & approve. Both Unit E & MassDOT expressed a mutual desire for expeditious negotiations, but as with all negotiations we must be prepared for many different scenarios. Our second meeting with MassDOT was held on May 1st. At this meeting the ground rules were formally agreed upon by both sides. Unit E presented its proposed changes to existing contract language along with our economic proposal. The contract language changes include many straightforward updates that reflect the agreed upon Master Labor Integration Agreement (MLIA) language, but there are also many others that are intended to address concerns brought to us by the members. The economic proposal reflects the MassDOT Mission statement “We are one transportation organization”. We will be meeting every two weeks with the MassDOT negotiating team. Our next meeting is scheduled for May 14th at which time MassDOT will present its contract proposal to Unit E. MASSDOT COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UPDATE #1 The COLLECTIVE BARGAINING COMMITTEE has been meeting every two weeks since last October. Since that time we have developed proposed changes to contract language (some which involve money and some which don't). We have also developed a financial proposal which we expect to be finalized at our next meeting (4/9). Since we are now a combined bargaining unit (MOSES/USW -‐ Unit E) we must also allow the Steelworkers the opportunity to provide their input into the contract proposal. To date we have provided USW with the proposed changes to contract language for their feedback. We have also met with them once and are scheduling additional meetings as required. We (Unit E) are scheduled to meet with MassDOT’s negotiating team on 4/16 to begin formal contract negotiations. Our goals are simple…1) to have continuity of contracts (no zero’s) and 2) to obtain reasonable salary increases. We are hopeful that MassDOT is ready to negotiate fairly and earnestly. The committee is prepared to meet as often as necessary over the next three months to reach an agreement. We will soon be posting additional CB updates on the secure member side of the MOSES website...stay tuned for a constant contact to let you know when they are available. We hope this helps everyone understand things a little better. We will do our best to keep the members informed of our progress or to ask for your help if needed.
