    Resilience is the ability of a system to withstand changes in its environment causing significant stress and still function.

    Resilience for Migration Municipal services being durable, prepared and prudent against current or future effects of migration.

  • STEP BY STEP RESILIENCE IN LOCAL GOVERNANCE PROJECT Resilience in Local Governance Project • Turkey is active in four levels: local, regional, national and international.

    PROJECT ACTIVITIES

    LOCAL LEVEL

    • Organizing awareness raising activities for municipal staff and high-level officials on the need for developing harmonization strategies; • Building the capacities of host communities to develop master/action plans for the harmonization between society and refugees; • Building capacities of citizens assemblies for the harmonization between society and refugees • To investigate and promote connection of municipalities in international networks • Organizing peer to peer activities with Swedish municipalities • To investigate the opportunities for follow-up funding

    REGIONAL LEVEL

    • Supporting to improve Regional Municipalities’ Union capacity to serve their municipalities • Supporting to improve networking among Regional Municipalities’ Union • To initiate peer to peer events with Swedish municipalities and SKL • Organizing awareness raising and planning events, workshops, forums, round table meetings, for member municipalities

    INTERNATIONAL LEVEL

    • Supporting cooperation and information exchange among the local governance actors of Sweden, Turkey and Lebanon

    NATIONAL LEVEL

    • Forming a mayors’ platform on Syrian crisis • To support structuring of a network among municipal associations, starting with Municipalities Union, Çukurova Municipalities Union and Marmara Municipalities Union

    2. Nearly half a million people lost their lives and hundreds of people are missing.

    1. In 2011, Syrian civil war begun.

    3. Country’s infrastructure and service facilities were damaged.

    11. SKL International, Union of Municipalities of Turkey, Marmara Municipalities Union and Çukurova Municipalities Union work together in the RESLOG Turkey Project. The project runs from 2018 to 2020.

    16. RESLOG Turkey increases the migration resilience of local governments in accordance with peacefulness and inclusiveness principles.

    20. RESLOG Turkey strengthens inter-municipal learning and support structures through regional unions.

    8. Local governments had to face the sudden population influx.

    21. RESLOG Turkey supports local governments’ planning, governance and implementation capacities against migration.

    7. 98% of the immigrants became urban immigrants.

    12. RESLOG Turkey Project is active in two regions with high immigrant population, Marmara and Çukurova.

    Turkey as well as strategic capacity and dialogue progress to strengthen the resilience of local governance.

    19. RESLOG Turkey supports developing a migration policy at the national level which meets with local reality and needs.

    22. RESLOG Turkey develops experience and information exchange based learning among local governance actors of Turkey, Lebanon and Sweden.

    23. RESLOG Turkey strengthens the resilience of local governance in the face of migration.

    9. Turkey’s urban service sectors were affected by the immigration crisis. Effects were mostly felt in the cities.

    15. RESLOG Turkey takes Sustainable Development Goals into consideration.

    6. Turkey provided shelter for 3.5 million Syrians.

    4. 5,5 million Syrians had to migrate to neighboring countries and to different continents.

    5. Countries such as Turkey and Lebanon were heavily affected by the migration.

    17. RESLOG Turkey supports local governance to provide inclusive services both to citizens and immigrants.

    10. Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions launched the RESLOG Project.
