Welcome WWelcome to the Goldsmiths Students’ Union marketing and advertising brochure and price list for the 2010/2011 academic year. I would like to personally thank those of you that have both supported and got involved with us over the past twelve months and for those of you I have not yet met I invite you to peruse what we can offer you. I look forward to working with you over the forthcoming year.

GGoldsmiths, University of London could certainly be described as being unique. Where else could you nd over 8000 of the most creative minds in one place? Amidst all of the talk of recession and nancial crises, we’ve had one of our most successful years in recent times, with footfall and spend signicantly higher than in the previous two years. A sign surely that students are still spending and this is your opportunity to have them use some of this cash with you.

WWorking with us you can target each and every single student by using one of our services or media outlets which ensures that you and your brand get noticed with the maximum return but at the most reasonable cost. This year our Freshers Fayre takes place on Friday 1st October between 10am and 5pm and is the perfect time to reach thousands of new and returning students. Due to the success of the fayre in recent years we have kept the event in a 6000 square foot marquee within the college grounds, allowing us to have more stalls and most importantly, more studentsstudents visiting on the day. 2010 will be our biggest year to date, seeing over 4,000 students on the day.

The new location has allowed us to increase student involvement and also commercial activity. In 2010 we hope that more commercial activity will encourage more businesses to attend in future years, making each successive Fresher’s Fayre bigger and better then the pervious year.

We have received much positive feedback about the event including much repeat business year after year

Freshers Fortnight is like the race starter’s pistol and it is an ideal opportunity to get your own piece of the action. We offer a variety of means of communication with our students but if there is something else you want to do then please make use of the contact details listed on page 2.

Freshers Fayre

By far the fastest growing media for advertisers that we produce for the “freshers” period. The wallplanner goes on the walls of student halls. flats and bedsits so you can be sure to be seen the whole year round. Commercial space is limited so be sure toto get in early with this one! In 2008/2009 we saw Odeon cinemas, Endsleigh Insurance and London’s two biggest nightclubs Fabric and Matter all featured on our A1 wallplanner.

The mailout is a pack we send to all new and existing students coming to Goldsmiths in September (7000) and contains information from the students’ union president as well as a variety of materials from our own Commercial Services Department but also you, as an external sponsor.

Inserts can be up to A4 in size and can take any form. The Inserts can be up to A4 in size and can take any form. The more substantial the goodies the better.

Welcome packs are handed out at Freshers Fayre so even if you’re not able to able to attend you will still be placing your product directly into the hands of those who you’d like to have it.

They’re also put into university halls of residence for when students arrive, along with the wallplanner outline above

InsertsInserts can take any shape or size as long as the fit in a standard carrier bag. You can even sponsor the bag, details of which follow the Student Media section of this brochure.

Student Media Goldsmiths Students’ Union has a great tradition in student media offering both a student edited and designed magazine, Smiths, and online radio station, Wired. Both formats are open to advertisers and we can work around you and your requirments so that your advertisment is the way you want it.

Smiths is our award-winning free magazine publication and is run by an elected editor. It covers everything from provocative articles on student life and living in London as well

as music and theatre reviews and topical critiques. Being design-focussed in the tradition of Goldsmiths as a leading arts college, each issue can come in a variety of sizes and formats and is distributed in university accomodation, across campus and throughout South-East London.

Distribution Dates

TheThe distribution for the 2010/2011 academic year happens four times, twice in 2010 and twice in 2011. We provide full proof copies for your approval before printing and can help with design and planning too. Prices for adverts can be found on the rear of this media pack and if you would like to recieve a few sample copies then please get in touch.

Wired is our radio station which is managed by an elected station manager and operates an online schedule through our website, www.goldsmithsstudents.com or through their own minisite, www.wiredradio.co.uk, throughout the academic year.

Advertising bookings can be made direct and we can cater for all your needs in terms of producing an audio or website banner advert. With extra special rates for local businesses now is the time to get your business heard accross South-East London.South-East London.

Event Sponsorship

Each Each year we host various large events from the Freshers and Summer Ball to weekly and one-off gigs and shows. We invite sponsors to support us whilst we provide a platform for you to promote your products and services either face to face by being at the event or simply by placing your logo or advert on our prprinted publicity materials.

If you decide to support one of our events we will be in the position to give you much more in return through additional marketing and advertising services being delivered free of charge, i.e. media ads, yer drops etc.

You can also sponsor the carrier bags we use for our welcome packs. Each year we use branded degradable carrier bags with our logo on the side and a sponsors advert on the other. We order them in August and are usually approached early so make sure you get in there rst!

Website Adverts, Banners and PagesETThis year we have been heavily promoting our website in order to get students online and aware of the work we do both commercially and in terms of the welfare and advice services we offer. Looking at recent statistics the use of the site has been steadily growing and in January 2008, for example, our website recieved almost 16,000 hits, with visitors spending several minutes on the site at a time.

WWe are able to offer you web space at www.goldsmithsstudents.com and prices vary depending on time of year and duration but start as just £100 + VAT pcm or on a click -thru basis. Please get in touch to recieve a personal quote.
