The Republic of Central Africa is a landlocked nation within the interior of the African continent. Its neighbours are Chad in the north, Sudan in the northeast, South Sudan in the east, in the northeast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo in the south and lastly, Cameroon in the west. Most of the territory is located in the Ubangi and Shari river basins, it was called Ubangi-Chari when colonised by France in the 19th century (or Oubangui-Chari in French). It was part of French Equatorial Africa (Afrique-Equatoriale-française) which existed between 1910 to 1958 as the federation of the four colonies of Gabon, Moyen-Congo (now the Republic of Congo), Oubangui-Chari (now the Central African Republic), and Chad. It became a semi-autonomous territory within the French Community on 01 December 1958 and obtained independence on 13 August 1960.The CAR covers a land area of about 240,000 square miles (620,000 km2), and has an estimated population of about 5.3 million as of 2011 . Bangui is the capital city.

Dear Readers, For our 6th issue, remember these three letters * VMK * (vumbuka: “Wake up” in Kikongo). This is the name of Mr. Verone MANKOU’s company, 25 years old, from Congo Brazzaville, a young engineer who comes from Africa to equip Africa with its first touch pad that everyone talks about in motherland this days . “Ipad Made in Africa” has been sold since February, initially in Central Africa - Congo (Brazzaville) and then in West Africa – Ivory Coast (Abidjan) .In the first images we received, it is written on the Way-C tablet “Designed in Congo, assembled in China ”. Note that C-Way, name given to the first African touch pad, means “starlight” in the dialect of northern Congo. As Apple did for its iphone, Mr. Verone MANKOU established his factory in China for the simple reason that Congo doesn’t have any of this kind and also because no one can challenge the competitive prices from China.Even if the first tablets are manufactured in China, a production line should start in Congo as well, reassured Mr. Verone MANKOU. It only remains to find some ways to achieve his ambition, which is far from impossible considering the enthusiasm that the project have aroused across the continent including the African diaspora. Mr. Verone MANKOU plans to produce 30,000 copies that will be sold in Congo, Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal, Benin, Togo, Niger, Mali and Nigeria. The C-Way has just been chosen for a major educational program in Africa. Let’s hope it won’t be empty words.The projects of Mr. Verone MANKOU embody the dream of many young Africans, that is to say take the matter in hands by every possible means. Those young Africans have understood that salvation will not come from heaven, conscious of their continent’s economic performances over the last ten years with a forecast 5.3% growth in 2012 and 5.6% in 2013, according to World Bank (3). The youth decided to roll up their sleeves instead of begging for help. With the support of the African Diaspora, in Asia, Europe and North America, Africa relies on the diversification of its economic partners, which explains its current good results, and the addition of new players such as Brazil, India, Turkey, South Korea and Japan.

But let’s get back to cultural issues! Before the next “TICAD” which is the main Japan-Africa Meeting to be held in 2013, you can enjoy the 2012 World Expo in Yaesu, South Korea, only 2 hours flight from Narita or Haneda. Many African artists and bands will be invited. Rendez-Vous Magazine will be there too. So if you stay in Japan, you can rely on “Rendez-Vous en Asie the Magazine” to report the events, just as if you were there too!

Under the effect of the chanted psalms of the Lotus Sutra mantra, their slimmer bodies slightly fed and their emaciated faces become the instrument of these formulas and rhythmic sounds, meant to be beneficial for the body and mind. In Kamakura, in 13th century, a monk named Nichiren which means Sun Lotus, controversial figure who predicted many natural disasters or rather the persistence of those castrophes, if the Buddhist sects sponsored by the government of that time, did not adopt the Daimoku of the Lotus Sutra, a jewel of wisdom taught by the Buddha Shakyamuni. # 6 Rendez-Vous en Asie The MAGAZINE 8

February 10th, in the Chosho-ji temple in Kamakura, under the watchful eyes of the statue of Nichiren, the monks finally appear after their retreat wearing a white cotton tunic, bearded and emaciated, all of them articulating a mantra in the same cadence. Without being able to say a word, the statue of Nichiren reflects his thoughts and teachings through the courage of those devotees. A person’s life condition is a reflection of his inner life as it is the same for a nation, as would have taught the founder of the sect. Walking with a confident step, like great athletes, or great fighters who look ready to step into the ring, they take off their light clothes and half-naked, surrounded by a crowd eager to photograph them, the sounds of their voices become deeper and they finally stand in front of a large basin filled with cold water. Is the adversary the winter cold, their semi-nudity or the starvation after hundred days of fasting? None of these. By spraying cold water several times on their bodies, the glare of splashing water can’t compare with our world and its wonderful cities flashing under enthralling commercials on big screens. To swap comfort for adventure can’t be longer reflected in their actions.


They were conquered, but they know that their quest is glorious, this Self, this sun that illuminates, this state of Buddhism wisdom that Nichiren taught to people, farmers, retailers and middle-class samurai - it is in the present life that you can reach it, everyone without exception - has raged off the other Buddhist schools and of course the government. In winter, cold pools can’t be used by everyone, do not abuse of it! On the contrary, the sweetness fragrance of colorful red, white and rose-shaped weeping willows stitched of flowers only, the famous plum trees, will start to open the dance of spring. Great atmosphere guaranteed in Odawara and Hakone. Winter will leave on tiptoe.

For an artist as Miki may be the sky is not the limit...because she is one of those very few artist that can manipulate leather and create amazing things with it.That ‘s the talent that lead her to Japan leather award in 2010. An all around artist.Overseas experiences:Miki realised how important is for an open mind artist to get her own overseas experiences, In that mood, Back in 1996 to 1997 Miki travelled to Australia studying english and getting her first oversea experiences, and from 1998 to 2004 in the USA where she worked at a Nail salon.Back in japan in 2004 she opened AHAVA Shop.Where she perform herself as a specialist nail artist and designer. As a person, Miki is one of the coolest person you wish to meet. She loves to travel around the world discovering and embracing new cultures. Shopping, watching movies, taking exercises at a gym are amongst her favorite hobbies... In few words Miki is a true artist. 13% in 2011. Most of all the oil sector is booming with a production growth of over 40%. Now Angola is the biggest economic success in the continent. Beside their economic growth, Angola had the pleasure to introduce to the world one of their own, Miss Leila Lopez as the new Miss Univers 2011.For our 6th edition we had the pleasure to have Miss Michelle Panzo of angola, a student in Sophia university in Tokyo, for an exclusive interview.

経済成長を13％と予測した一方で、ほとんどすべての石油分野は生産の伸び率を40％以上成長させました。今、アンゴラはアフリカで最も大きな経済的成功を収めています。この経済的成長だけでなく、アンゴラはLeila Lopezさんを2011年の新しいミスユニバースとして世界に紹介しました。この第6号では、独占インタビューの為、東京の上智大学の学生であるアンゴラのMichelle Panzoさんにお越しいただきました。


RVAM : Hello Michelle, how are you today?Michelle: I’m great, thanks for asking.RVAM : How long have you been in japan ?Michelle: Well I’ve been here for about 3 and a half years now.RVAM: What do you think of Japanese people?Michelle: To be honest, I’ve been amazed at how friendly and polite people are in Japan, I’m also impressed by the order they keep and how everything has to be perfect. RVAM :What do you love most about Japan? Michelle: No doubt, I really love the food and the kindness of people. My friends love to go for Okonomiyaki every now and then, and I must say it is really delicious! RVAM :What’s the best experience you ever had in japan? Michelle: My best experience has to be with my university dance group, G-splash. It is such a great experience just spending time with others of a different while sharing what we love, that is dance. I remember the very first perfomance I had last year and how everyone was very encouraging before, and congratulatory after we had finished. Even though it was just a simple thing, it felt very good to be part of a team, and know that we were all there for each other.

RVAM :Tell us a little bit about life in your country, AngolaMichelle:Well first of all I must say that Angola is a very beautiful country with a very promising future, and I am proud to be Angolan. RVAM :Which part of Angola you come from? Michelle: My family is from a province called Uige, which is in the northwest of Angola.RVAM :Describes to us an Angolan in 3 words.Michelle: Fun. Proud. FearlessRVAM :How can you identify an Angolan amongst other Africans?Michelle: Well the most obvious answer would be the language. But to be honest I believe what sets Angolans apart from other Africans would be the famous dance Kizomba RVAM : Tell us what makes angola different than other african countries?Michelle: Like most African countries, Angola has a sad history of pain and suffering, but today it is a rich country making good use of its oil, iron ore, diamonds and other resources, involving in trade. And it also has links with China which is now booming economically. What really sets Angola apart is the fact that it saw an opportunity and took it. Of course there is still so much potential, but the changes that have occurred in the past decade are very impressive. I personally notice a big change each time I go back home.RVAM :Tell us a little bit about yourself.Michelle: I’m an open minded university student, currently pursuing a degree in International Business and Economics.RVAM :Tell us what are your dreams and goals?Michelle: My goal is to become a very successful business woman, and put everything I learnt in abroad to good use. Obviously I want to start a family, and hopefully when I do that, I can be the role model for other women my age by being a successful, educated, multilingual, proud African woman.RVAM :What is your personal definition of success?Michelle:That is a difficult question... To put it in short form, success is achieving more than you ever dreamed of.

RVAM :他のアフリカ人の中から、アンゴラ人をどの様に見分けますか？Michelle : もっともはっきりした答えはその言葉です。しかし正直にいいますと、アンゴラ人が他のアフリカ人と違う所は有名なダンスであるキゾンバだと思います。

RVAM :アンゴラが他のアフリカの国と々異なる点は何ですか？Michelle : ほとんどのアフリカの国々がそうである様に、アンゴラも悲しい痛みと苦しみの歴史があります。しかし今では石油、鉄、鉱石、ダイヤモンドなどの資源をうまく活用して貿易に携わり、豊かな国になっています。現在経済的に好景気の中国とのつながりもあります。アンゴラが他と違う点は好機を見出し、それを利用したという所です。もちろん、これからもまだたくさんの可能性はありますが、過去10年で起こった変化はとても印象的です。私自身もアンゴラに帰る時にはいつも大きな変化に気付きますRVAM :あなた自身について少し教えて下さい。Michelle :私は気さくな大学生です。現在、国際ビジネスと経済学の学位の習得を目指しています。

RVAM :あなたの夢と目標は何ですか？Michelle : 私の目標はとても成功した女性実業家になることです。そして外国で学んだ全てを生かしたいです。当然、家庭も持ちたいです。そしてそれらを達成した時に、成功し、教養があり、多言語のできる、誇りを持ったアフリカ人女性になることで、同世代の女性たちのお手本となる人物になりたいです。

RVAM :あなたにとって成功とは何ですか？Michelle :それは難しい質問ですね...簡単に言いますと、成功は夢見て来たことよりも更に成し遂げることだと思います。

RVAM :日本での若いアフリカ人の学生として、日本での勉強に情熱を燃やすアフリカ人、特にアンゴラ人にアドバイスはありますか？Michelle :私の唯一のアドバイスは、開放的になり、勉強に専念して下さいということです。外国に住むということは簡単なことではありませんが、チャンスを最大限に得るカギは、どんな状況でも新しいことを学ぶ為に単純に開放的になるということです。また、勉強に専念することは本当に重要です。なぜなら一度目標を見失うと、簡単に迷ってしまうからです。もちろん私たちは若いので、楽しむことも必要ですが、勉強と遊びにはバランスが必要なはずです。

RVAM :あなたの美しさの秘密は何ですか？（笑）Michelle : 私の美しさの秘密ですか？うーん、現在の私は私の両親の言うことを聞くことで形成されていると思います。私の母はいつも私を”変装したお姫様”と呼んでいました。そして私の父は他人の様になろうとする必要はないと言ってくれました。私は今の私でパーフェクトです。両親の言葉により私は自信をはぐくんで来ました。私は私自身が彼らの大変な努力のたまものだと思っています。RVAM : あなたの好きなアンゴラの食べ物と日本の食べ物は何ですか？Michelle : 間違いなくこれが今までで一番好きな質問です！私の大好きなアンゴラの食べ物は、乾燥した魚とフレッシュな魚そしてキャッサバリーフの入ったKizacaというシチューです。そして私の大好きな日本の食べ物はお好み焼きです。

RVAM : あなたにとって手本となる人物はいますか？もしいるのであれば誰ですか？そしてなぜですか？Michelle : 私には2人のお手本になる人物がいます。私の母と父です。私の母はキャリアと子育て両方において自立し成功した女性になれるということを証明してくれました。彼女が忙しすぎて私の為の時間が無いということは一度もありませんでした。また、私の父ですが、彼の人生は勤勉が報われるという例です。始め、誰も彼が現在の様な素晴らしい権力者になるとは信じていませんでした。そして彼は私たち（彼の子どもたち）に私たちのルーツを決して忘れさせませんし、私たちが持っている物を当然と思わせることは決してありません。願わくばいつか、私はこれらの資質を身につけ、私自身の子どもにも刺激を与えたいと思っています。RVAM : 今から10年たってどんなことをしていたいですか？Michelle : 今から10年たって、私は日本でのどの道を行くべきか模索する学生としてのこの経験を思い浮かべ、でこぼこ道でも私はやり遂げたという事実に微笑んでいたいです。

RVAM : As a young African student in Japan, any advice to any african in general and Angolan in particular pursuing their studies in Japan?Michelle: Well my only advise is to be open minded and devoted to your studies. Living abroad is not easy, but the key to gaining the most of the opportunity is simply being open minded so as to learn new things in every situation. Also being devoted to your studies is really important because once you lose sight of your goals it is easy to stray. Of course we are young and need to have fun but there should be a balance between work and play.RVAM : The actual Miss Universe is from Angola. Tell us how you felt when you learnt your fellow country woman was elected Miss Universe ?Michelle: Well the funniest thing is that I found this out from my non Angolan friends. They were congratulating me and asking more questions about Angola, our food, our culture, etc. so obviously I was very happy proud to be Angolan and really happy that we gained more recognition through Leila Lopes (1). Many people think of it as just a beauty contest, but the way I see it, it was a step further to a well rounded and recognized Angola.RVAM : What is your definition of beauty?Michelle:I believe that beauty is not only what we see, but is mostly personality shining out. A beautiful person in my eyes is one that can put a smile on your face with the least effort, one who encourages and does not tear down, and one who listens to and shares both good and experiences to build up character.

RVAM : What is your beauty secret? (lol..)Michelle: My beauty secret? Hmmm well I think what makes me who I am today is listening to my parents. My mom always used to call me “a princess in disguise” and my dad would tell me I don’t have to try and be like anyone else, I am perfect the way I am. So their words built confidence in me and I believe that I am a product of their hard work.RVAM : What is your favorite Angolan food and Japanese food?Michelle: This definitely is my favourite question so far! My favourite Angolan foods would have to be kizaca, cassava leaves cooked with dried and fresh fish. And my favourite Japanese food would have to be Okonomiyaki.

RVAM : Do you have any role model? if yes, who and why?Michelle:Well I actually have two role models, my mother and father. My mother is my role model because she proved that she can be an independent, successful woman with both a career and children, and not once was she ever too busy for me. My father is also my role model because his life is an example of hard work paying off. Where he started off, no one would believe that he would be the great man of power that he is today, and he never lets any us (his children) forget our roots, or take what we have for granted. Hopefully one day I can adopt these qualities and inspire my own children.

RVAM :Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?Michelle: Well ten years from now I see myself remembering this experience in Japan as a student trying to figure out which road to take, and smiling at the fact that despite many bumps in my road, I made it.RVAM : any secret passion you would like to share with “Rendez-Vous Magazine”readers ?Michelle:Well I already mentioned that I love dancing, so I think the only other passion I can share is that for really good food!RVAM : What would you like people to know about Michelle Panzo?Michelle: Well after this interview I’m sure people know a lot about me, but if they still want to know more then we should meet in Angola!RVAM : Any final words to our Readers? For the 6th issue of Rendez Vous Magazine, we will talk about the Anosy region, located in the southeast of Madagascar from where comes from the band “Hazolahy” and its charismatic leader Thominot, who will be our guest in “Rendez-Vous Live Tour” as part of the project Rendez Vous en Asie.

Hazolahy (“mangaliba”) is a group of eight musicians and dancers, from the Anosy region in southeast Madagascar. The band introduces Antanosy culture through music and dance. Based on traditional rhythms like Katrehaka (trance music) and Sagenaky (rhythm used in various traditional ceremonies), the music of Hazolahy is at the crossroads of urban and rural sounds. Crossed by an insistent pulse like the breath of life, liven up by a backdrop of subtle mandolins (kabosy), solos and bass, the sound evokes the power of rock’n’roll and the hypnotism of tromba ceremonies (possession trance). The group is led by the charismatic Thominot. Raised by a father songwriter and a mother singer in a choir, this young artist was able to learn at a young age the rhythms and vocal polyphonies created and practiced by Antanosy peopleAt the age of 11, he started to improve his talents of guitarist and singer in his father’s band.Nowadays, Thominot has became one of the ambassadors of Malagasy culture around the world. In 2002 he represented his country at the Island Festival in South Korea, in 2005 in Batofou (Reunion / France), at the Intercultural Festival FIM (Mayotte), in 2006 at the Malagasy Tour in France, concert in Paris (France) and in 2007 & 2008 at the Malagasy Tour. February and March in Japan are all about love. So now that we are in the l.o.v.e time, l want you out there to share with me your opinion on this subject. ”Can we fall in love with someone we barely know in one month?? I guess ...yes...we can fall in love with someone in short period of time. But the truth is that kind of love can only last forever in our minds!! In my opinion, to love someone we need to know his or her flaws and accept them, and that takes more than a month!!! I will share this story with you. It happened when I was in Kenya. I was at this party, when I spotted this young and attractive lady who was staring at me with these intense flirting eyes. Irresistible as she was, I approached her and asked if we ever met before or if I reminded her of someboby and she said “yes”!! Her ex-love, so I was like her ex love look -alike that she still love!!! Now thinking about the all scene, I can say this beautiful lady had a that love at the first sight for me and which wasn’t really me!!!! The best part is we just talked and laughed about it. Le petit Paul recommence à jouer et après quelques minutes la maman entend : “Gare Montparnasse ... deux heures de retard à cause d’une connasse...”
