PITTSBURGH PIRATES • BRADENTON MARAUDERS

The Pittsburgh Pirates had a banner year in 2013, shedding a playoff drought and earning prominent national recognition. The Buccos sterling campaign began with a record-setting Spring Training in Bradenton. 2014 holds a great deal of promise for the Pirates, and it all begins in Bradenton.

Fans poured in droves into Bradenton’s historic McKechnie Field in 2013. The Pirates set Spring Training attendance records for overall attendance (93,433), average attendance (6,229), and the largest single game crowd (8,541) in the ballpark’s storied history. Off-season improvements to the park enhanced the fan experience, and created an exciting atmosphere throughout Spring Training.Pirates baseball at McKechnie Field is

an opportunity to enjoy Spring Training at its best. Every seat feels just an arm’s reach from the playing field, creating the intimate feel of minimal division between the fans, the game, and the players. Friends, family, coworkers, and clients will enjoy the game, whether from their seats or perched along the outfield boardwalk.

Baseball is best enjoyed with company, and the Pirates offer great group opportunities. A private party on the Left Field Party Deck provides a great view to watch reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen roam centerfield.

Enjoy a picnic in the Boardwalk Barbeque Area, and watch for a souvenir from National League home run leader Pedro Alvarez. Fans of the Bradenton Marauders can reminisce as former stars like Gerrit Cole and Starling Marte make their mark with the Pirates.

A beautiful ballpark, great group opportunities, and the local flair of Spring Training baseball in the heart of Bradenton. It’s a great way for the Pirates to kick off 2014, and the best way for fans to enjoy the great game of baseball. It all begins in Bradenton.

The Boardwalk Barbeque Area can be reserved for picnics by groups of 25 or more, providing a pre-game meal in full view of the playing field.

Reigning National League Most Valuable PlayerAndrew McCutchen signs autographs for fans before a 2013 Spring Training Game at McKechnie Field.

The Left Field Party Deck is a great option for hosting private functions, featuring a wide variety of catering options for food and beverages.

CEO Roundtables Help Leaders Raise the Bar of Excellence During 2013 the Manatee Chamber proudly launched two CEO Roundtables. Each roundtable provides 10-12 business owners and executives an opportunity to engage in candid conversations with non-competing, local counterparts. Our CEO Roundtables are not networking groups, rather they are a mind-mapping forum. The goal is to connect local leaders in a manner that will encourage them to share ideas and access tools that accelerate their professional development and help their business soar.

The facilitators who drive the success of the CEO Roundtable program are Doug Van Dyke and Dennis Zink. Doug is president of Leadership Simplified. He is an expert in leadership development, executive coaching, and strategic planning. His clients include Fortune 500 companies, as well as small and medium-sized businesses. Doug may be reached at [email protected]. Dennis Zink, our other facilitator, is a serial entrepreneur, certified mentor, and local Chairman of SCORE. He is the host of Been There, Done That!, a business podcast series with interviews of local business leaders on a variety of topics. Dennis may be reached at [email protected].

Here is what participants are saying about the CEO Roundtable program:

“The CEO Roundtable forum allows a wonderful opportunity to gather and share business experiences and challenges with some of our community’s most influential leaders. I have found the small group sessions to be a beneficial setting to learn and receive insight from those for whom I have such great respect.” - Angela Massaro-Fain, President Grapevine Communications

"The CEO Roundtable meetings have been both thought provoking and useful. Truly beneficial time spent and I am having fun!" - Trudy Moon, President Air & Energy

“The facilitators go well beyond what you would expect. They aren't afraid to say what others may shy away from.” - John Horne, Owner, President Anna Maria Oyster Bar

“The facilitators are incredible listeners who have your success as their goal!” - Mike Zeppi, President Anthony’s Cooling Heating Electrical

“…well organized and focused. Using our time productively and providing us with useful content.” - Bob Rosinsky, President and CEO Goodwill Industries of Manasota

“…for executives and organizations interested in optimizing both their short and long-term results.” - Johnette Isham, Executive Director Realize Bradenton, Inc. For more information on how to get your business involved in a CEO Roundtable, please contact Neil Spirtas at 941-748-3411 or [email protected].

Save the Date!Project TEACHFriday, May 9, 2014

It’s time to go back to school!

Join the Manatee Chamber of

Commerce as we present the

Project TEACH program at all area

elementary schools on Friday, May

9th. Project TEACH is designed to

increase career awareness among

4th grade students and stress the

importance of first impressions.

For many students, this is one

of the first times they have had

a business volunteer in their

classroom…and the first time they

have been exposed to careers other than those of their parents.

More than 130 volunteers are needed to reach

every 4th grade class. Volunteering is EASY and

takes only a few hours of your time on the morning

of May 9th. The morning begins at Freedom

Village Retirement Community with an orientation

breakfast at 7:30 AM sponsored by Manatee

Education Foundation, followed by a presentation

at an assigned school ending around 10:00 AM.

To volunteer, look for the registration flyer in

April’s issue of the Current. For more information

call Jahna at 941-748-4842, ext. 172 or email at

[email protected].

It was another sold out crowd of more than 450 members at this year’s Annual Dinner. 2014 marks the 125th Anniversary of the founding of what is now the Manatee Chamber of Commerce and we kicked off our year-long celebration at this year’s Annual Dinner at the Polo Grill & Bar. A special commemorative video featuring 28 of our distinguished Past Chairmen of the Board was a highlight of the event. These men and women shared special memories and accomplishments from their year as Chairman. Thank you to METV for its tireless, professional, award-winning work!

Outgoing board members were recognized for their service and our 2013 Board Chairman, Tom Seguin, provided a review of the Chamber’s past year’s accomplishments. Tom has been a dedicated, visible Chamber Chairman who has led with integrity and commitment and truly made this Chamber and our community sparkle! Tom then passed the gavel to 2014 Board Chair, Rae Dowling, who offered up a preview of the Chamber’s leadership initiatives for the coming year such as workforce development, advocating both locally and nationally on behalf of our 2,000+ members, and ensuring that our members are getting the most out of their membership.

One of Rae’s main priorities this year is to focus the message about how critical the Manatee Chamber is to the success of your business and to Manatee County as a whole. As she said in her remarks, “The Manatee Chamber delivers an incredible ROI for your membership investment.” With more than 100 programs, initiatives, committees and members benefits, we know that membership matters. Wondering if you are taking advantage of all that you could be? Join us for our next Bagels & Benefits member reception on April 22 at 3:30 PM at the McClure Center, Lakewood Ranch.

January & February Leadership Manatee HighlightsAfter a much needed holiday break, January proved to be a very busy month for Leadership Manatee. On January 8, the class received an insider’s look at our law enforcement agencies and how they interact within our community. The day also included a tour of the County jail system and their critical programs.

Later in the month, the class took a look at the diversity of our local businesses and industries. The day included tours of several local organizations including Port Manatee, Beall’s Outlet distribution center, Tropicana Products, Sun Hydraulics, IMG Academies, and Pirate City.

In February, during Local Government Day, the class enjoyed a luncheon with many local elected officials. Along with the lunch, the class participated in a mock trial, giving them all hands-on experience of our judicial system.

On their final day, the class received an overview of several non-profit organizations that deal with human services. The class visited the United Way of Manatee County, Meals on Wheels Plus/Food Bank of Manatee County, PACE Center for Girls, along with several other agencies.

2015 County Street Map - Are You "On The Map"?Ad sales for the 2015 Manatee County Street Map are gearing up! Each year the Chamber offers an exciting advertising opportunity when publishing our annual street map. This is the only map endorsed by the Manatee Chamber and it will be distributed to potential customers over a 12 month period. The map is produced by fellow Chamber member, Target Marketing Inc.

The Business and Professional Showcase Directory of Members section offers the opportunity to promote your business. This section will classify participating businesses by category, including a brief description of their products and/or services. Advertising space on the back cover and a limited number of interior display panel ads are also available. Participating advertisers will receive a complimentary supply of the folded maps.

Don’t miss out on the unique member opportunity to reach potential buyers, new residents and new partners. Space is limited, and advertising is reasonable, especially considering up to 12,000 maps will be printed and available for the next 12-14 months.

Act now! Remember, the limited space is allocated on a first-response basis. Target Marketing may be reached at (800) 933-3909. You may also email Michele Slaughter if you have any questions, [email protected].
