 ABSTRACT 

I chose Marcel Duchamp for my seminar paper work, because I find his life and work very

interesting. Duchamp challenged conventional thought about artistic processes and artmarketing through subversive actions such as dubbing a urinal art and naming it Fountain.He was the first artist to point out that art can also be about ideas and not only worldly things.He is in many ways the father of modern art.

I focused on how Duchamp¶s styledeveloped over his active years andwhich ideas intrigued him and werereflected in his works. I tried toanalyse some of the works that wereimportant for him, and not just focuson the most famous ones. I wanted

to find out which were the importantevents in Marcel¶s life that shapedhis view of art.

While working on this paper work, I learned a lot about Duchamp¶s lifeand work, which I didn¶t know

 before. I found out that I can really relate tohim, at least when it comes to his

 preoccupation with time, changes, ephemerality, love and sexuality andthat he was an extremelycomplicated and a very sensitive

 person, that really dedicated his lifeto art and discovering its boundaries.

I was especially impressed by howcalmly he tolerated all criticism of him andhis work, because he

 believed in his ideas and had enoughcourage to open the world¶s eyes to anew kind of art.

Proti koncu 19. Stoletja je druina Duchamp ivela v udobni, srednjerazredni hii blizuBlainvilla, majhnega kraja v Normandiji. Ga. Duchamp je bila herka trgovskega potnika,ki je bil tudi slikar in grafik. Njihov dom je bil poln njegovih umetnin, tako herka, kot tudinjegov zet, sta ga zelo cenila, posledino pa tudi vnuki. tudiral naj bi z CharlesomMéyronom, ki je znan po njegovih panoramah Pariza.eprav je ga. Duchamp, mater Marcela Duchampa, podedovala oetovo nadarjenost ± risala

 je uline prizore Strasburga in Rouena za okraevanje porcelanaste posode, ki ni bila nikoliizdelana ± je odraslo ivljenje preivela skrbe za sedem otrok, od katerih jih je preivelo estin od katerih sta bila le dva navezana na njo. Njen mo je bil premoen notar, kasneje pa je

 postal upan Blainvilla.Oba stara sta spotovala in spodbujala kulturne dejavnosti. Otroci so odrasli v domu, kjer se

 je igral ah, brale knjige, slikalo in kjer so druinski lani obvladali glasbila in skupajustvarjali glasbo. A vse ni bilo popolno. eprav je bil oe ljube in ustreljiv, je bila doMarcela mati neodzivna in brezbrina, zaradi esar je bil oitno prizadet.

 Najstareja otroka sta bila fanta, Gaston in Raymond. Malo manj kot deset let kasneje, posmrti njegove triletne sestre, sta sledila Marcel (rojen 28. Julija 1887) in Suzanne, njegovanajblija prijateljica in partnerica v igri. Priblino let po tem je druino zaokroil e en par otrok, Yvonne in Magdeleine, ki sta bili materini ljubljenki.Ko je bil Marcel e v oli, sta njegova stareja brata opustila tudij prava in medicine, da bi

 postala umetnika, njun trud pa je bil v veliki meri podprt od njunega oeta, ki jima je postopoma izplaal njuni dediini v naprej.Gaston se je preselil v Pariz, da bi slikal pod psevdonimom Jacques Villon. Raymond se jeoklical za Duhamp-Villona in postal kipar. Ko je dokonal srednjo olo, se je sedemnajstletniMarcel pridruil bratoma jeseni 1904, ko se je preselil v prostore Jacquesa Villona naMontmartru. Tudi on je e zael risati in slikati, kot tudi Suzanne Duchamp. Njegova sestra je

 bila zaradi spodobnosti vezana na druino, Marcela pa je, kot njegova brata, v prizadevanju zaivljenje in ustvarjanje v Parizu, podpiral njegov oe. Ni presenetljivo, da so prva dela Marcela Duchampa skice in slike Blainvilla in druine, nakatero je bil tako mono navezan. Ljubka  Landscape at Blainville iz leta 1902, ki jo jenaslikal, ko je bil star komaj petnajst let, kae Monetov vpliv nanj, s katerim se je spoznal

 preko knjig in reprodukcij in ga je takrat zelo obudoval.

Indulgent (popustljiv, ustreljiv) - adjective: willing to allow someone to do or havewhatever they want, even if this is not good for them

To round off (zaokroiti) - verb: to do something as a way of ending something in a suitableor satisfactory way

Propriety (spodobnost) - noun: correctness of social or moral behaviour 

Endeavour (prizadevanje) - noun: an attempt to do something new or difficult

Well-to-do (premoen) - adjective: rich and with a high social position 

Indifferent (brezbrien) - adjective: not at all interested in someone or something 

Indebtedness (zaslunost) - noun: the act of   being very grateful to someone for the help theyhave given you 

Acknowledged (priznan) - adjective: when someone is recognized how good or importanthe is.
