PETERSBURG, Fla. (October 12, 2011) – The Mahaffey Theater at Progress Energy Center for the Arts rolls out the red carpet to celebrate the beginning of a new era and prepares for the arrival of one of the biggest stars in the Latin American music scene. Latin pop sensation, Marc Anthony, brings his tropical rhythm and explosive performance to the Grand Opening Weekend of the new Mahaffey on Saturday, November 19. Tickets are on sale now. This is the second of three big performances during a spectacular Grand Opening Weekend for the “new” Mahaffey presented by Bill Edwards Presents. On Friday, November 18, Don Henely will kick off the weekends’ festivities, followed by a spectacular fireworks extravaganza. The weekend will close with Cedric The Entertainer’s hilarious standup comedy routine on Sunday, November 20. The Mahaffey is excited to provide a oneofakind setting for Anthony’s exclusive, one nightonly show, which is the second of three incredible performances during its Grand Opening Weekend November 1820. The extensive renovations taking place at the downtown waterfront performing art center will further enhance the theater’s original art deco theme and take visitors back to an era of grand theaterstyle decor. Those improvements, along with the theater’s stateoftheart sound system are sure to enhance the audience’s experience for this spectacular performance. In 2010, Anthony released his latest album “Iconos,” and earlier this year the star brought his unique character to TNT’s medical drama “HawthoRNe,” which debuted its third season in June to 2.5 million viewers. Anthony is also launching a reality television talent search for Latin American performers. “Q’Viva: The Chosen,” which will air across 21 countries in North America, Central America and South America.
