1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 AbouttheTool
ThenewOAGMapperisapowerfultoolallowingyoutovisualiseconnectivity.Youcancreateandcustomiseroutemapsforexistingscheduledairservicesaswellashypotheticalairlineoperations.MapperislocatedontheAnalyserhomescreen,alongwiththeotherAnalysermodules.
OAG Mapper sits within the OAG Analyser Suite of modules, each accessed via a commondashboard.Eachmodulehasbeendesignedtohaveahighdegreeofcommonalitysothatscreensare visually comparable, and users of one will find it easy to use the other products and createoutputsinsimilarandcomparableformatswhereneeded.

2 GETTINGSTARTED
This short guide provides all the information you need to start using OAGMapper. It has beendesignedtowalkyouthroughallofthestepsinvolvedwithgettingthedatayouneedfromMapperandcanbeusedonitsown,orinconjunctionwiththeuserguidevideosonourwebsite.

IfyouwouldliketogivefeedbackonyourexperienceofusingMapperorifyouhaveanyproblemsusingthistoolplease contact your account manager and they will be able to help you or pass you on to therevelantdepartmenttohelp.WhenyoulogintoOAGAnalyseryouwillseeascreenlikethiswhichisthedashboardfortheOAGAnalysersuiteofproducts.
Eachproductyouhaveaccesstoislistedalongthetoprightandalsoinmiddleofthescreen.Youraccountnumber is locatedatthetopleftofthescreen,whereitsayswelcome,andyouneedjustoneaccountandlogintoaccessalloftheOAGAnalyserproductsyousubscribeto.
ToopenMapper,themodulecoveredinthisuserguide,youcaneitherclickonthemodulenameatthetopofthescreen,orclickonthepiniconlocatedtotheleftoftheMappersection.
OnloggingintoMapper,youwillseethisscreenwhichisthehomescreen:

InthecentralareayouwillseetheMapperreportandbelowareanySavedMaps.
Alongthetopofthescreentherearesomeadditionalfunctions.Firstly,therearequickaccesslinkstoeachofthemodulesyouhaveaccesstoaspartofyourlicence.
Next is theMy OAG section which also allows you to access savedmaps. You can also access afeaturewhichallowsyoutocustomisegroupsofdatatomakerunningreportswithsimilarquerieseasier.ThereisalsoaccessheretoUserPreferences.Thefunctionsinthissection,andthereferencesection next to it, are covered in more detail in our other user guides for Schedules and TrafficAnalyser. The User Guide option links you to OAG’s help pageswhich include this guide, someFAQ’s,aglossaryandavideotoguideyouthroughhowtousethisreport.
InthisuserguidewewillnowtakeyouthroughtheMapperReportandhowtouseit.
3 REPORT
ThereisonereportavailableinMapper–theMapperReport.Wedescribehowitworkshereandprovideyouwithaworkedexampleinthissection.Youcanalsoaccessashortvideoguidefromouruser guide that replicates the content provided here. From the home screen you can click onMapper under Available Reports and you will be linked to a new query screen which will lookfamiliarifyouareauserofotherOAGAnalysermodules.Therearethreedistinctpartstothequeryscreen. On the left are Parameters, in the middle the fields that you can use to refine theseparametersandthenontheright,yourcurrentreportselectionsaredisplayed.

MostoftheparametersaresimilartothoseinotherOAGAnalysermodulessoherewewillfocusontheonesthatdiffer.Firstly,intheDisplaysectiontherearethreeoptions
Selecting Active Routeswill return results for all active scheduled routes for the time period youselectinPeriod.SelectingCustomRoutesopensupadifferentwindowwithaboxwhichallowsyoutoentertheroutepair,orpairsthatyouwanttovisualise.Onceyou’veenteredapair,orpairs,youcanthengoontorunthereportbyclickingontheyellowRunbox,orselecttheActiveandCustomRoutesoptionatthetopofthescreenandtheroutesyouhaveenteredwillbeaddedtowhateverquery you choose to run. This can be useful to look at hypothetical routes alongside a carrier orairport’sexistingnetwork.

IfyounowclickontheActiveandCustomRoutesoption,theCustomfieldappearsatthebottomofthequeryscreen.

4 RUNNINGAREPORT
Thebestwaytoseehowtorunareportistodoanexample.InthisexamplewewillbecombiningtheNorwegianandeasyJetairlinenetworksatGatwickAirportonasinglemap,andaddingahypotheticalroutewhichNorwegianmaychoosetooperateusingrecentlyacquiredairportslots.ThehypotheticalroutewillbefromGatwick(LGW)toProvidence(PVD)intheUnitedStates.
StartbyselectingtheActiveandCustomroutesoption.ThedatewillbeJanuary2018.SelectthetwoairlinesNorwegian(inthisexamplewe’veselectedbothofNorwegian’stwolettercodes–DYandD8)andeasyJet.SelectanOriginwhichisGatwickAirport.Finally,typethecustomrouteLGWPVD.TheblueareatotherightofthescreenwillshowtheselectionsmadeasMyReport.
Togeneratethemap,clickonRun,underMyReport.Thenextimageisthemapwhichisgeneratedasaresultoftheabovequery.

5 CUSTOMISINGAMAP
Everymapcanbecustomisedinnumerouswaysfromchangingthecolourandshapeoftheroutelines,toaddinglabelsforairports,andevenchangingthestyleofthemapitself.
CustomisationcanbeaccessedthroughtheMapSettings.MapSettingshavethreetabs,thefirstbeingCurrentSelectionswhichsimplyliststhereportcriteriausedtogeneratethemap.
ThesecondtabisCustomiseDisplay.Themapappearsinthedefaultdisplaymodewhereeveryrouteisshowninthesamecolour.Checkboxesallowyoutoturnoffanyrouteorroutesfromthedisplay,orhighlightspecificroutes.
Thereareanother5displayoptions.SelectingEquipmentdisplayseachrouteaccordingtothetypeofaircraftequipmentoperatedontheroute,withadifferentcolourforeachaircrafttypeanduseswhitelinesforrouteswheremorethanonetypeofequipmentisused,and

darkerlinesforthehypotheticalroutesforwhichnoaircrafttypehasbeenassigned.Again,youcanchoosewhetheranyparticularrouteisdisplayedornotusingthecheckboxes.YoucanalsousetheFilterResultsfeatureatthetopofthetabletochooseonlyroutesoperatedwithonetypeofaircraft.Thefilteroptiononlychangeswhatisdisplayedinthetable,notonthemap.
Byclickingoneachofthecolourcodesfortheaircrafttypesanewdialogueboxopenswhereyoucanmakechangestothecoloursused,eitherusingthecolourpalette,Red-Green-BluenumbercodesorHEXcodes.
Thethirdoptionalongthetopistoshowroutelinesaccordingtoairline.Again,routeswheremultipleairlinesoperateareshownaswhitelinesandthehypotheticalrouteisshowninadarkercolour.
Thefourthoptiondisplaysroutesaccordingtothecarriercategory,eithermainlineairlineorlowcostairline.
Afifthoptioncolourcodesroutesbytheorigin,inthisinstancethatmeanstheyareallthesamecolourasGatwickistheoriginforallroutes.Afinaloptioncolourcodesroutesaccordingtothedestinationandinthisinstancethatmeanseveryrouteisadifferentcolour.
ThethirdtabinMapSettingsisCustomiseFormat.ToensurethefullfunctionalityofthistheCustomiseDisplayneedstobeinthedefaultoption.

CustomiseDisplayprovidesthegreatestdegreeofcustomisationandsothefirstoftheoptionsisonewhereyoucansaveamapstyleyouhavecreated,andselectapreviouslysavedstyle.Thisisespeciallyhelpfulifyouhavecreatedamapstylewhichmatchesyourcorporateorin-housestyleandwanttobeabletouseitagain,orifyouhavemultiplemapswhichallneedtoappearwiththesamedisplayfeatures.ThisiswhereyoucanaccessGoogleMapStyleswhichprovideformuchmorecustomisationofthemapitself.ThisisdescribedindetailinSection6.
BelowSavedMapStylesareoptionsforhowyouwishtheLabelsatoriginsanddestinationstobedisplayed,soairportnamescanappearasthreelettercodesorwiththenameinfull.Thelocationonthemaprelativetothelocationmarkercanalsobechanged,ascanthesizeofthelabel.
Thecentralareaoftheoptionsallowscustomisationoftheroutelines,orPaths.Thisincludeschangingthewidthofthelines,thestyle(straightorgeodesic),colourandtransparency.Therearealsooptionsforthelocationmarkersincludingsize,colourandtransparency.
Ontherightofthiscentralareaarethesameoptionsbutforallhighlightedroutes.Youcancustomisetheseoptionsandtheywillremainasyoucustomisethem.Ifyouwanttoreturntothedefaultoptions,clickonResetwhichclearsanychangesmade.
Atthebottomthesavefunctionallowsyoutosavethecustomisedmapandoncesaved,itappearsinthedrop-downlistforfutureuse.
6 CUSTOMISINGUSINGGOOGLEMAPSTYLES
MapperprovidesanoptionforuserstochangeandcustomisethepresentationofthestandardGooglemapstyles,sothatthevisualdisplayoffeatureslikelandcharacteristics,seacolour,andnationalboundariescanbechanged.Aswellaschangingthestyleofthesefeatures,youcanhidefeaturesentirely.Thismeansthatyoucanemphasizeparticularcomponentsofthemapormakethemapcomplementthestyleofthesurroundingpage.
TheMapThemeprovidesanopportunitytochangefromthestandardgooglemapformattotheGoogleSilver,GoogleRetro,GoogleDark,GoogleNightorGoogleAuberginestyles,asshownbelow.

IffurthercustomisationisrequiredselectCustom.ThisimmediatelyopensanewdialogueboxwhichwillcontaintheJavaScriptObjectNotation(JSON)whichwilldefinethefeaturesofthemapbutnowitisempty.YouneedtoclickonthelinktoGoogleMapStylesinordertocustomisethemap,andthenpastetheJSONgeneratedintotheemptybox.
TheGoogleMapStyleslinktakesyoutoanewwindowforGoogleMapsAPIsStylingWizard.ClickonCreateAStyle.
ThenextwindowrepeatsthevariousstandardGooglemapstylesthatareavailableinMapper.You’llneedtogostraighttoMoreOptionsatthebottomofthescreen.

Thenextscreencontainsalonglistofmapfeaturesontheleft,eachofwhichprovideevenmorelevelsofcustomisation.Itmaybeworth,first,changingthecentrepointofthemapandthescale.Manyofthemapscreatedforroutenetworkscrossnationalboundariesandinvolvedistancesinexcessof500kmsoitisimportanttoseehowthefeaturesselectedappearonamapofthescalethatisrequired.ThemapbelowhasbeencentredonEuropeandcoversanareasimilartotheoneusedforthereportqueryusedearlierinthisUserGuide.Asyoucansee,therearemanyadministrativeareaboundariesdisplayed,aswellasmajorroads.Tocreateacleanerlookyoumaywanttoremovethosetostartwith.
YoucandothisbyselectingAdministrative>Province>Stroke>HiddenandRoad>Highway>Fill>Hidden.Youmightthendecidetocustomisethecoloursonthemaptofitwithanairline’scorporatecolours.Inthisexample,we’llcontinuewiththeworkedexampleweusedearlier,anduseNorwegian.

Firstly,we’llselectFewerOptionsatthebottomofthewindowwhichtakesusbacktothispage.We’llchoosetheSilveroptionhere,whichremovesthecountryboundariesandchangesthecolouroftheseatosilver.
Nowwe’llformattheseainNorwegianred.SelectMoreOptionstoopenuptheadvanceddialogueandscrolldowntowater.SelectingWateropensanothermenuwhereweselectFill(highlightedinblue)andthenwewanttoamendthecolourbycheckingthecolourbox.

Doingthisopensupaboxwhichallowsyoutocustomisethecolour.Therearepresetcolours,oryoucanenterthehexcodeorRGBcode.TheNorwegianRGBcoloursare218,25and56sowe’llenterthose,addthemtothecustomcoloursincasewewanttousethemagain.
WethenclickonOKandthecolouroftheseachangestored.
That’sallweneedtodohere,soweselectFinishandthefollowingboxopens.AllweneedtodonowisexporttheJSONstyledirectlyintoMapper.

ClickingonCopyJSONhighlightstheJSONandcopiesitsoyoucannowreturntotheMapperpageandcopyitintothecustomthemebox.
OncetheJSONiscopiedin,youcanselectapplytoseehowitlooks.Clickingonthemapsettingsboxclosesitsoyoucanreviewandtheneditfurtherbyopeningmapsettingsagainorsaveunderanexistingornewname.Wecouldhavemademanymorechanges,addingorremovingfeaturesofthemap,andchangingthewaythemapfeaturesaredisplayed.
Onceyou’vesavedyourcustomisedstyle,itthenappearsintheSelectCustomMapStyledrop-downsoyoucanuseitinfuture.Ifyouhaveaninhousestyleofmapyouwanttouseoverandoveragainthencreatingithereandsavingitwillmakethetaskofproducingallyourmapsinthatstylesimple.

Onceyou’vecreatedthebackgroundmapstyleyouwant,youcancustomisetheRouteStyles.
Thefirstoptionrelatestolabels,fororiginanddestination.Youcanchoosetodisplayairportcodesornames,andthenamendthelocationofthelabelanditssize.
Thenextsetofoptionsrelatetothelines,orpaths.Youcanvarythethickness,styleandcolourofthepathsandtheirtransparency,andalsoamendthemarkersize,colourandtransparency.Youcanalsoamendthesamefieldsforanyhighlightedroutesthatyouselectinthecustomisedisplayfield.
Onceyou’vemadeanychangestothepathsyoucansavetheseasamapformatwhichyoucanthenselecteachtimeyouwanttousethatspecificsetofformattingoptions.
Finally,oncethemapislookinghowyouwantitto,youcanselectaprintfriendlyviewbyclickingontheprintericononthetopleftofthescreen

Doingthisclosesthemapsettingstabandremovestheothericonsfromthemapasshownbelow.Clickingontheprintericonagaintakesthemapoutofprintmode.
Finally,ifyouwanttosavethemapqueryyou’vegenerated,clickonsavemapandthenthefollowingboxopens,allowingyoutoenteranewname,oruseanexistingname.
Onceyou’vesavedamap,itappearsintheMyOAGdrop-down,inSavedMaps.ThiscanbeaccessedfromthetoolbaratthetopofthescreenorunderSavedMapsintheMapperhomepage.

7 USINGTHEUNSERVEDDESTINATIONSFUNCTION
There’sanothernewfeatureinMapperwhichistheabilitytohighlightunserveddestinationswithintherangeofparticularaircrafttypes. We’llcontinuewiththeNorwegianexampleweusedearlierand lookatwhereelsecouldbeserved inNorthAmerica fromLondonGatwickusingNorwegian’sBoeing737MAXaircraft.
StartingbackattheMapperreport,weclickonOriginandDestinationtomovethequeryscreentothere.

We’ll addNorwegianas thecarrier,Gatwickas theoriginairportand in theOriginDistance rangefieldwe’llenter5,000to6,500aswe’reassumingtherangeoftheBoeing737MAXis6,500km.JustbelowtheOriginDistanceRangefieldwe’llcheckthePlotUnservedPortsbox.
Thenwe’llrunthequery.Thisistheresult:

Themapcanbere-centredaroundtheareayou’reinterestedin,inthiscasethenortheastUnitedStatesandzoominginshowsthecurrentroutesoperatedbyNorwegiantotheUS.EachofthebluedotsrepresentsanairportintheUS,withtherangeoftheaircraft,butwithoutservicetoGatwick.Thecurvedbandistherangewe’vespecifiedandsoyoucanseefromthis,andthezoomed-inshotbelowthattherearemanyairportswhichcouldbeservedwiththisaircraft.Hoveringoverthe
