Making Meaningful Memes Workshop
CREATING A MEME USING GOOGLE DRIVE
STEP I: FIND YOUR MEME IMAGES:
1. Look for images that, when combined, will look like they are having a conversation.
Consider the direction of each person’s gaze
Mid-Shots and Medium Close Ups work best
Don’t worry if they are not “facing” each other – you will be able to change the orientation
of the images in the next part
2. Save them to your desktop: right click on the images, select “save image as”
STEP II: PUT TWO PEOPLE IN THE SAME FRAME
1. Go to Google Drive via gmail:
login: password:
2. Click on “Create” > Presentation
3. Click on “Simple Dark” slide and hit OK
4. Delete the text boxes on the slide by selecting them and hitting “delete”
5. In the menu bar at the top of the page, select “Insert” > Image
6. Follow google to upload the images
7. Arrange the orientation of your two images so that they look like they are having a
conversation:
To change image orientation: Right click on image > Rotate > flip horizontally or vertically as
needed
Google drive will automatically save your work
8. Change name of the presentation/slide by clicking on the presentation name title box to
something easily identifiable (i.e. StudentName_Meme)
9. Download the image: File > Download As > Jpeg Image
STEP III: DESIGN YOUR MEME
10. Go to picasaweb.google.com
11. Use same google login info as listed above
12. Click on “Upload” button at top of page
13. Change The Album Title to your first name, last name initial
14. Click on your photo > “Actions” > “Edit in Creative Kit”
15. Think of a caption for your meme and use the text box to add it to your meme
Click and drag for proper orientation
Use IMPACT font
16. Create The Conversation:
You can use Talk Bubbles in the “Decorations” section – consider using a different font such
as script or another font that the viewer would connect with thoughts/dialogue
Not sure how to start? Look up quotes from the Hunger Games, great thinkers, activists,
etc. and have the other character respond to that quote
Add effects to you design IF it strengthens your message and adds to the content in a
meaningful way
17. Pat yourself on the back – you have created a meaningful meme!
