Position of the mains-linked PV static converter system “RESUN“ in market comparison

The mains-linked PV static converter system “RESUN“ is a LF-non-transformer three-wire sinus static converter to provide the low voltage network of the power supply companies with direct current power from PV generators. With two basic units of static converter power amplifiers WR1500 (1,5 kVA) and WR5000 (5 kVA) in modular design the required static converter total power of 1,5 kVA up to 1280 kVA can be reached by parallel connection of max. 256 power amplifiers at present.

Unlike other PV static converters, in the “RESUN“ system the in series connected string converters control the MPP-Tracking of the PV modules, not the static converter. They collect direct current power of the connected PV modules string by string and transform it to a common intermediate circuit voltage line which leads to the static converter. So the advantages of string static converters and central static converters are combined.

Like this, it is - for instance - possible to operate up to 30.000 string converters on just one static converter with an appropriate total power, But in regard to

- the string voltage (max. 800 V DC)

- the cell technology (amporphous, polycrystalline, monocrystalline...)

- the arrangement e. g. at a building

- the module temperature

- the adjustment to the sun

the PV string may have absolutely different characteristics without to be afraid of mismatching loss.

For optimum adaption to PV generators (even in difficult applications like in buildings) various compon-ents are availble - there are no limits for the further development of the "RESUN static converter in the PV generator technology:

string converter for biaxial tracking PV strings: SK31T, SK61T, SK121T

static converter basic units, indoor: WG3, WG6, SG12, SG24

The biaxial tracking system “Railtrak“ offers a low-cost opportunity to raise the annual generator output up to 45% compared to optimum stationary adjustment - which means an enormous increase of profit of PV systems. And it is also possible to operate stationary and tracking systems simultaneously with one static converter.

In case the total power of a static converter of 1280 kVA should not be sufficient, up to 16 static converters can be aligned to a system in master-slave-combination up to 20480 kVA. Various options allow a remote control of the static converter, e. g. via modem, or, on request of powers suppliers, to integrate it into load management systems.

Due to comfortable Windows-based software the user can monitor the static converter and the service crew can configer the system.

An (applied for patent) automatical „process to prevent unintended island-operation when operating self-producing systems at the low voltage network of the EVU“ has not the always accessible disconnecting switch point also in systems with total power <4,6 kVA resp. 30 kVA, whereas “RESUN“ feeds 3-wire any time.

Description

The system operating management provides following main features:

Combined sensor ESTS (Art.-Nr. 557170)

Description The combined sensor for global insolation and outdoor temperature is connected to the static converter basic units „RESUN“ and is component of each "RESUN“ basic unit and is indispensable for the function of the static converter. Based on the insolation values measured by the sensor the system operating ma-nagement determines how many of the available static converter power amplifiers are necessary at the moment. The total power at the static converter power amplifier is designed for 1000 W/m² as a rule. For example: the sensor measures a present global insolation of 200 W/m², the system operating manage-ment switches off 80% of the power amplifiers and controls with not more than 20% to the operating point. The outdoor temperature is measured for compensation purposes and relevant for the dewing protection. Based on the sensors key function some basic rules have to be regarded at installation to ensure a proper function of the total system.

1. Basically the sensor has to be mounted with its light receiver vertically upright to the sky.

2. Select a location that ensures the sensor is not in a shaded area during the time the PV generator shall operate. Therefore the sensor should be mounted appr. 30 cm above the module level of the PV generator to avoid any shadow on the modules (use special sensor bracket). 3. In systems with lightning protection unit the sensor has to be mounted at least 1,5 m away from parts of the lightning protection system and at least 1 m below the top of the lightning conductor.

4. Avoid nearby chimneys or flues as well as similar sources of pollution (Danger of contamination which might cause measuring errors).

5. Design connecting cables between sensor and static converter just as long as necessary (max. 25 m) and use only cable type LiYCY 2 x 2 x 0,5 mm² (screened) and connect the screen only to the static converter.
