www.travelgroup.com.pe DAY 01 CUSCO/WAYLLABAMBA *Lunch and dinner. Transportation to Urubamba Valley up to Km. 82 to Piskacuchu (2700m), starting point for the inca trail. Cross the bridge over the Vilcanota river and walk along a flat terrain, arrive in Miskay (2800m) and then descend to the impressive inca city of Llactapata (2650m). Continue trekking along Kusicacha valley, gradually climbing to reach the community of Wayllabamba. Spectacular view of the Vilcanota fountains and the Veronica snow-capped peak. Camp. Total distance: 12Km Estimate walking time: 5-6 hours Maximum altitude point: 3,000m. Campsite altitude: 3,000m. DAY 02 WAYLLABAMBA/PACAYMAYO *Breakfast, lunch and dinner. After breakfast begin the most difficult part of the trek. While hiking for 9 km the landscape changes from sierra to puna (dry, high and little vegetation). Pass Abra Warmihuañusca (4200m) and an area of the so called cloud forest, habitat of different species of birds. Inmediatly after the pass, decend into the Pacasmayo valley. Camp. Total distance: 11Km Estimate walking time: 6-7 hours Maximum altitude point: 4,200m. Campsite altitude: 3,500m. DAY 03 PACASMAYO/WIÑAYWAYNA *Breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is the longest day but the most impressive and interesting one, due to the number of archaeological sites and lush cloud forest. Climb to the second pass, Abra Runkurakay (3970m) and stop to visit the site. Then descend towards Yanacocha (Black Lagoon) and enter the cloud forest to finally arrive to Sayacmara (3624m) which is a beatiful complex made up of a semicircular constructions, narrow streets, fountains, patios and irrigation canals. Continue up to the third pass, Abra Phuyupatamarca is the best preserved archaeological site along the Inca trail. Continue the trekking descending stone steps that lead to Wiñaywayna (2650m), an impressive inca complex, considered to be an agricultural center. Camp. Total distance: 16Km Estimate walking time: 8 hours Maximum altitude point: 3,900m. Campsite altitude: 2,650m. DAY 04 WIÑAYWAYNA/MACHU PICCHU/CUSCO *Breakfast. Wake up at 4 am start climbing towards the Intipunku or the Sun Gate. Hike along a trail of flat stones on the edges of cliffs in highland jungle. From this point possibility of a superb sunrise view over Machu Picchu. After 40 minutes walk enter to the citadel through the “Guardians House”. Guided tour of the ruins and time to relax of climb the Huayna Picchu. Afternoon return by train to Cusco. Total distance: 4Km Estimate walking time: 2 hours Maximum altitude point: 2,700m.
