Page format: portrait, 8.5 x 11. [If submitted piece is chosen for printed publication, Concert Size (9 x 12) may be utilized] 2. Note size: comfortably legible when seated at the harp. a. The industry standard is “easily readable from three feet away”. b. Font size and reduction % may vary, based on the music notation program. 3. Pagination: Bottom-Centered 4. Non-English text in italics. 5. Half-inch margin minimum. 6. Music notation, symbols and text indications are to be used according to industry standards. a. Ex. Key changes and tempo changes are delineated by a double bar; systems must be consistently spaced; the space between systems must exceed the space between the staves of a system, etc. b. Standard Notation References: 1. Behind Bars, Elaine Gould 2. Music Notation: A Manual of Modern Practice, 2nd Ed., Gardner Read 3. Music Notation in the Twentieth Century: A Practical Guidebook, Kurt Stone. 7. Harp pedal diagrams and pedal changes are encouraged. If included, they must be consistently used. The pedal diagrams appear above the system. Placement of individual pedal changes should be consistent within the composition; either between the staves of a system or below the system. 8. Harps appearing in any artwork must be a Lyon & Healy or Salvi harp and approved by Lyon & Healy Chicago. 9. Should your piece be chosen for publication, an mus. or musx. file must be provided. 10. Submitted pieces should have the typeset publish-ready. rev 10/17
