2006 2nd Quarter HCM KEWSLETTEGreetings from Hawaii! I had a

delightful trip to the mainland forthe graduations of Cynthia King andAnya Leggitt.

Update on items mentioned lastquarter. My broken windshield wasreplaced and cost less than my insurance deductible. I was pleasantlysurprised. David and his talentedperformers touched hearts as theysang and acted as Pilate, Simon ofGyrene, the Centurion, Jesus'Mother, and Mary Magdalene. Ithink the thyroid medication I havebegun to take makes me feel better.I seem to have more energy, but it ishard to tell.

lam still tired from my mainlandtrip. I did fly with Amy to Chicago, stayed with friends in Mishawakauntil after Cynthia's graduation andher dorm room emptied. Then Amydrove us to Romulus, Michiganwhere I stayed with Bettina KingLeBlanc. I flew from Detroit to Chi

cago and met daughter Leta to driveto Beloit, Wisconsin for AnyaLeggitt's graduation. We stayed in amotel with several of her aunts and

uncles, so it was a great family time. She graduated magna cum laudewith majors in International Relations and Modern Languages. I flewhome from Chicago the next day. Itis good to be home and back to workfor the Lord.

I've been writing about ourchurch project to "Listen to the Voiceof the Shepherd." It has culminatedwith the writing of this Vision Statement: "Waialua Christian Church is

a caring community devoted to following the way of Christ, welcomingGod's presence and the ever-currentcall of the Holy Spirit. The Bible isour standard of faith and life. We

celebrate God with heartfelt worshipand demonstrate love for one an

other. We seek to grow in Christ-likecharacter, and reach out to servepeople, inviting them to embrace thisnew life in Christ."

To demonstrate this "caringcommunity" an AppreciationSunday was held. The oldest threeladies in the congregation, AlleneMiller, Zola Brown, and I were escorted to seats on the platform, biographies were read relating how eachhad and were serving the Lord. Wewere presented with a plaque, a rose, lei, and cards.

Now it's preparation time for ourVacation Bible School. The staff is

mostly recruited, most of the supplies are on hand (except some back-ordered craft materials), and now weneed to get the publicity out to thecommunity. It will be held June 12-16, just after the end of school.

My grandson, Kawika King, willgraduate June 3 and his sisters are

camp. She will begin her stay by marrying her professional photographer. Her mother and daughter will staywith us for a few days.

Gene Redden and his wife, Ester-lita, have been ministering to a congregation on Kauai. He has beensuffering from cancer. The treatments have been successful, but he isnot able to continue to serve as hewould like. He is looking for a replacement. The congregation is notable to pay a living wage, so theyneed someone with other income or

willing to be a "tentmakaer." If youare interested, or know someonewho is, you may call Gene at 808-652-3670.

May your summer be filled withopportunity for service.

Yours to serve Him,

State. Wejust celebrated StatehoodDay. There were special eventsdowntown but I didn't go. I justhung our USAflag.

Our church is celebrating thefinish of the first part of our roofproject. The parsonage roof is repaired. I know our preacher's family is happy that they no longer haveto have to deal with the leaks. We

had enough money in the roof fundto pay for that. The chapel roof willbe repaired in September. We haveExpansion Funds that we can use,but we would like to keep them fora building fund in the foture. Weare trying to raise moneys for theroof. One of our members allowed

us to use his yard for a sale. We allcontributed our castoffs and made

over $300. We have a plate in theback of our chapel and encouragepeople to drop in their change .eachweek. Some neighbors and churches have contributed large checkswhich allowed us to pay for the parsonage roof, but now we must domore for the chapel roof. Several ofour families are on welfare with on

ly a few with a substantial income,so we have limited resources. Anyhelp you could give would be appreciated. Checks can be sent to Hawaii

At the time most ministers are

without a minister, the preachers atHauula and Waialua (that's us) areon vacation, so Glen is filling in atall those places. He is preaching atHauula and his son, Gary, is preaching for us. Glen was the foundingminister at Waialua and Gary wasthe pianist. Along with the sermonSunday, Gary played and sang aspecial number. Steve is on themainland to visit his father, brother, supporting churches, and do somework on his father's house. He is to

be gone three weeks.

A couple of new families havemoved into our area \\dth children

in their pre-teen years. Our familiesusually come for the worship hourat 10. But these are close enough sotheir children can walk and can

come earlier. So I talked to them

and started a Sunday School classfor them. The first week I had 3students and the next only one. Butwe'll persevere. Two from the onefamily have moved farther away, but they made it to church, so maybe they will be able to get there earlyenough for the class. We are studying the 16 outstanding characters ofthe Old Testament, which gives anoverview of Old Testament history.I've found the puzzle maker on the

In addition, WCC has manyother reasons to celebrate. The

angels in heaven rejoiced withus as we witnessed a new birth

That class causes me to rejoice. It consists of those twogirls - Nai'a and Anela, Leilaniand Keoni (their parents aremembers - their father went toSBCC) and two newcomers tothe community. These are fairlyregular in attendance. They are

attentive in spite of the distractions from adults visiting on theparking lot.

We are also celebrating thenew roofs on the parsonage andon the church. We had to use

part of the Expansion Fund topay for them, but the congregation is trying to raise funds toreplace that money. We had ayard sale and will have a car washin December. One member is do

As is my custom, I'll try tobring you news of my family:

My oldest, AMY, lives nextdoor with her family. They allare a big help to me as I servethe Lord. They run errands, carry packages, bring me my mail, reach items on high shelves, drive me to Waioalua, etc. Inaddition to managing the household, Amy publishes The En-courager, is president of thePTSA, and takes two courses at
