LSD vaccination 2017 - General Remarks (South East Europe LSD vaccinating countries except Albania - Croatia)

Completion of LSD National vaccination campaigns follows a less strict schedule compared to 2016

Start date for vaccination was decided on the basis of vaccine availability + expiry of the vaccine immunity from the previous vaccination (?)

Most of the 2017 LSD vaccine supply needs were covered through national procurement procedures (even more than 2016)

About 20-30 % (?) of the vaccinated animals in 2017 received LSD vaccination for the first time in their life (newborns , imported from free areas e.t.c.)

Rate of annual replacement reported between 6-30%

Live homologous vaccines were used in most countries (except Turkey –Russia)

In early 2018 , in the countries where vaccination was completed in 2017 , an estimated 40-50% of the animals will have already 1 vaccination and about 40-50 % will have already 2 vaccinations or more.

However in the course of the year due to the annual replacement rates, newborn calves , cattle from trade e.t.c the animals that will be vaccinated in 2018 for the first time represent an important portion of the overall cattle (≃25 % ? considering the 2017 data)
