Edward A. Lelacheur Park is a baseball park located on the banks of the Merrimack River in Lowell,Massachusetts. It is home to the → Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League. The are the Class A ShortSeason Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. It is also home of the University of Massachusetts Lowell River Hawksbaseball team. They compete in the Northeast 10 Conference at the NCAA Division II level.

HistoryThe park was built between a partnership with the city of Lowell and the University of Massachusetts Lowell.Named after a local civic leader who spearheaded the initial redevelopment of Lowell, the park was built adjacent tothe residential section of UML. Populous (formerly HOK Sport) designed the park. It offers views of the AikenStreet Bridge, Lawrence Mills And Fox Hall. The seating bowl is raised above the field. A concourse sourounds thetop of the park. The refreshment, merchandise stands and bathrooms are located here. The design enables an openview while waiting in line. Two seating expansions have been considered since the park opened. One plan would have added 600-1000 seats onthe third base side. The expansion would to match how the first base side is angled towards the infield. The otherproposal was to add a smaller version of the Green Monster with seating on top for around 200 people. This wouldalso would have shortened the field, and raised the wall to 20 ft (6.1 m). Both have never been built due to lack offunds.

Paul E. Tsongas Arena (usually referred to as just Tsongas Arena) isa multi-use indoor sport and concert venue in Lowell, Massachusetts. The Arena was opened and dedicated to the memory of prominentlocal and national politician Paul Tsongas on January 27 1998.

The arena was built with funding from both the city and the university– $4 million from each – plus another $20 million contributed from thestate of Massachusetts largely in support of UMass.[1]

The facility is home to the AHL → Lowell Devils ice hockey team, who play in the Atlantic Division. The facility is also home to theUMass Lowell River Hawks Division I hockey team who compete inHockey East.

Tsongas Arena also hosts concerts and other public events, including the graduations of several local high schools.Hockey seating capacity is approximately 6,500 while concert seating capacity is approximately 7,800.In 2004, alternative music pioneers Pixies recorded their live concert DVD and high-definition television special"The Pixies: Come Home Live 2004 World Tour" at Tsongas Arena. In the same year, the group Yes released aDVD of their 35th anniversary tour performance at the venue titled "Songs from Tsongas."Partnership issues left the University and the city in a dispute. UMass claimed that the City of Lowell has treated the University like a tenant and not like a partner. The University claimed this was contrary to the spirit of the original

capital put up by both parties when the arena was originally funded.[1]

Recently UMass Lowell and the City of Lowell were been in negotiations to transfer ownership of the arena and theland adjacent to it to the University. In late October 2009, it was reported that the deal has been perfected, withUMass Lowell comitting to $5 million in repairs to the facility.[2]

On October 30, in a ceremony during a game against Boston University, the deal was signed, thus transferringownership to the university.
