INT. HOSPITAL - ROOM - DAY

Two NURSES frantically set a Chinese BOYs body down on ahospital bed while the DOCTOR slips his hands into a pair oflatex gloves. Meanwhile, a third nurse ushers the MOTHER andFATHER out of the room.

NURSE #3Please! Please, you need to go outthere. We will alert as soonanything happens! I promise!

Nurse #3 tries her best to politely shove the Mother andFather out of the room. They finally obey and exit the roomwhile the Doctor turns to his nurses.

DOCTORWhat do we got here?

NURSE #1Eight-year-old trauma victim. Hewas hit by an SUV while riding hisbike. Hes been out cold for atleast eight minutes.

DOCTOR(nods)

Alright. Get me some defibrillatorpads stat.

Nurse #2 turns around and grabs a pair of defibrillatorpads. She brings the machine closer to the Boys bed andstarts it. As the Doctor takes a hold of the pads, Nurse #2applies some kind of gel to them. The Doctor rubs the twopads together as he eyes the Boys heart rate monitor. Itsstarting to flatline.

DOCTOR (CONTD)Okay. Give me some room here!

The three nurses back away as the Doctor leans over theBoys body and presses the pads against his chest. He nodshis head and Nurse #1 presses a button on the defibrillatormachine. A shock is sent through the machine into the padsand into the Boys body. BOOM! The Boys torso jolts up, butdrops back down onto the bed.

The Doctor pulls the pads away from the Boys chest and rubsthem against one another again. Taking a deep breath, hepresses them against the Boys chest once more and lookstowards his nurse.

CONTINUED: 2.

DOCTOR (CONTD)Again!

Nurse #1 presses the button on the machine a second time.Again, the Boys body lifts up in shock, but nothinghappens. He falls back onto the bed, lifeless and

silent. The Doctor sets the defibrillator pads down andpresses his hands against the Boys chest. He begins pumpingup and down on the Boys chest, but the heart rate monitordoesnt change.

A second later, a long, drawn out beep echoes from themachine. The Doctor stops pounding on the Boys chest andjust stares at the heart rate monitor. A long, straight,narrow line strikes the screen while the number 0 iswritten above it. The Doctor shakes his head and lowers hisface mask.

DOCTOR (CONTD)

Call it.

NURSE #3Miles Au-Yeung. Time of death --4:24 p.m.

The Doctor sighs and exits the room. FOCUS on little MILEslifeless body as it lays silently on the bed. Nurse #1 takesthe defibrillator pads and moves the machine away from thebed while Nurse #2 begins to take the IVs out of his body.We hear sobs and moans coming from outside the room. Milesparents have just found out what happened to their son.CLOSE IN on Miles eye as it suddenly SNAPS OPEN and hegasps.

The three nurses are taken aback by Miles suddenresuscitation and reel back in fear. Breathing heavily andgasping for air, Miles grabs at his chest and stares aroundhim in awe. The Doctor rushes back into the room with theMother and Father in toe. He has a shocked look on his faceas he watches Miles parents run towards him and lock him upin an embrace.

The Mother and Father continue crying as they embrace theirson. Miles holds onto them tightly as they mutter inaudiblewords to him. Miles looks around in confusion at everyonearound him.

FROM MILES POV

The three nurses and the Doctor gawk at him with surpriseand confusion. None of them can seem to comprehend what justhappened. Behind them, at the doorway, we can see two blurryfigures -- SHADOWS. We cant make out exactly what they look

like, but they have a human form to them. As they get closerand closer, we begin to see what they really are -- humans.However, they appear pale and disjointed as they reachtoward Miles. He closes his eyes and were left with nothingbut...

FADE TO BLACK.

...a black screen. In the background we hearincomprehensible whispers. At first it is quiet, but witheach passing second, they get louder and louder and loudertill...

FADE TO:

BLACK SCREEN - TITLE SEQUENCE

We see the word "LOST" floating towards the black screen,tilted sideways. We pass through the "O" and...

FADE TO:

EXT. JUNGLE - GROVE - NIGHT (END FLASHBACK)

A campfire. Small, but hot enough to keep everyone warm.Sitting around it are SAWYER, JULIET, and MILES. They aresitting in the middle of a grove with their hands to thefire. Its been several hours since they escaped the attackon the beach and they all look exhausted. Sawyer sitsshirtless on a log while Miles sits to the side of him ontop of a rock. On the other side of the fire, Julietsshoulder is in a makeshift sling made from Sawyers shirt.

CLOSE IN on Miles. His eyes are fixated on the small firebefore him. His arms are folded across his chest and hessitting on a large rock.

MILES(suddenly)

Whats the plan now, geniuses?

Juliet looks up at Miles with a shred of contempt whileSawyer remains mesmerized by the flame.

JULETI suggest we keep moving. Whoeverattacked us will find our firesooner or later.

MILES

Where would we move to then?

JULIETWe find Ben just like we planned.

MILESI dont think thats a good idea.

Juliet smirks at Miles then turns to Sawyer. He has a blankexpression on his face as he stares down at the bundle oftwigs burning in front of him.

JULIET

What do you think, James?

Snapped out of his trance, Sawyer looks up at Juliet whossmiling back at him.

SAWYERW-What?

JULIETShould we look for Ben or stay put?

MILESI didnt say we stay put! I thinkwe should find the others. Theymight still be alive!

SAWYERI-I dont know.

MILESWhat do you mean you dont know?Just pick one!

Sawyer angrily jumps to his feet and socks Miles across theface. Miles falls backwards and lands on his back in thegrass. Sawyer leaps on top of him and grabs him by thecollar of his shirt. He reels his hand back for anotherpunch, but stops.

MILES (CONTD)Thats the last time Im savingyour ass!

Sawyers fist shakes in midair as he glares at Miles. Heshakes his head angrily and drops his fist. Clutching Milesshirt with both hands, he pulls Miles faces closer to his.

SAWYEREveryone I cared about just died on

your boat!

Miles face contorts into a look of confusion.

MILESW-W-Wait. What?

Letting go of Miles collar, Sawyer drops his head to theground and climbs back up to his feet.

SAWYERJust shut your mouth and stay put.

Wiping the spit from his lips, Sawyer sits back down on hislog and stares back at the campfire. Sitting up, Miles eyeshim and notes the despair in his eyes.

MILESIm sorry...

SAWYERWhatever!

Juliet glances at both men then sighs.

JULIETIf the two of you are done arguing,Id like to get moving.

She stands up and waits for either Sawyer or Miles to followsuit. Neither of them move, however. Annoyed, Juliet walksaround the campfire and grabs Sawyer with her free hand.

JULIET (CONTD)Listen, you can sit here and mopeall you want about your deadfriends, but this was your plan inthe first place and Im sticking toit! Now, are you going to come helpme find Ben or are you just gonnasit here and cry?

Sawyer glares at Juliet menacingly. His clenches his fistsand swallows, but nothing happens. Shaking his head, hestands up and keeps his eyes on Juliet.

SAWYERWe find Rose and the others first.

Juliet stares back at Sawyer then nods.

JULIET

Fine. Lets find them then.

Suddenly, the loud barking of a dog fills the ears of thetrio. They all look around in search of the source untilVincent runs out from behind the trees and over to Miles.Miles pets his head as Vincent licks him across the face.

ROSE (O.S.)Oh, thank God!

Sawyer, Juliet, and Miles all turn and see Rose as shepushes through the trees and bushes. Behind her is Bernardfollowed shortly by Charlotte. Bernard smiles as he sees

Sawyer and Juliet across from him.

BERNARDAre you guys alright?!

Sawyer and Juliet nod.

JULIETYes, were okay. Was it only thethree of you that made it out?

A sad look falls on Roses face as she slightly nods.

ROSEI think so. We havent run intoanybody else.

Sawyer shakes his head in disappointment.

ROSE (CONTD)Whats going on, guys? I stilldont understand what ishappening...

JULIETI dont think any of us do, Rose.

CHARLOTTEWho were those people?

JULIETNo idea.

BERNARDAre you sure it wasnt the Others?

JULIET(nods)

Im sure.

ROSE(shakes her head)

Im scared, Juliet. I wanna knowwhats going on.

JULIETWe all do, Rose. Thats why we haveto find Ben and Locke.

CHARLOTTEAre you sure Ben even knows whatshappening?

Juliet shoots Charlotte a knowing glance.

JULIETIsnt that why youre after him inthe first place?

Charlotte doesnt say anything in return. She looks down atthe campfire as Juliet turns away from her.

JULIET (CONTD)Alright. I think its safe to saywere all in agreement, right?

No one says a word.

SAWYER(sighs)

We find Ben and Locke then.

INT. THE TEMPLE - ENTRANCE CORRIDOR - NIGHT

LOCKE and RICHARD stand side by side at the entrance of theTemple. Behind them are three Others -- ROBERT, QUENTIN, andASHLEY. The rest of the Others are gone, taken shelterinside the Temple. As he eyes the three Others left to hisleadership, Locke turns to Richard.

LOCKEAre you sure they should comealong? It might be dangerous.

RICHARD(nods)

They can handle it, John. Theyrenot children.

LOCKE

But--

RICHARDThere is a whole slew of dangerspresent out there now, John. Weregoing to need help if were goingto track down Jacobs Cabin.

Locke looks back at Robert, Quentin, and Ashley. The threeof them are standing still and staring back at Locke withoblivious yet ready looks on their faces.

LOCKE

(nods)Okay then. Lets get going then.

Locke turns around to the open entrance door, but Richardstops him. He grabs Locke by the shoulder, prompting Locketo turn around.

RICHARDYoure going to need this.

Richard reaches into his pocket and pulls something out. Hetakes Lockes hand and opens it. He sets something inLockes palm and closes Lockes fingers over it.

LOCKEWhats this?

Locke looks down at his hand. CLOSE IN on a small, rusted,golden compass.

RICHARDA compass. To help you find yourway.

Richard flashes Locke a kind smile as Locke remains staringdown at the compass. Palming it, he nods and turns backaround. Heading out the Temple, he is followed by Richardthen by the three Others.

INT. CELL - NIGHT

Daniel is sitting in the corner of his room. Theres a trayof food in front of him, but it simply sits there untouched.Daniel stares blankly at the ceiling until he hears the doorcreak to life. Facing the door, he sees SONIA -- the

MYSTERIOUS WOMAN. She shuts the door behinds her and walksover to Daniel. She notices he hasnt eaten his food andpicks it up off the floor.

SONIANot hungry?

DANIEL(shakes his head)

No...

SONIAFine.

Sonia holds the tray up with one hand and extends her otherhand down to Daniel. He looks at it quizzically as if askingwhat hes supposed to do with it.

SONIA (CONTD)My name is Sonia Belle. Im asecurity agent for the DHARMAInitiative.

Daniel looks up at Sonias lapel. Her name is there underthe emblem of the Initiative. Underneath it in smaller fontis the word SECURITY. Looking at Sonia, Daniel shakes herhand.

SONIA (CONTD)I want you come upstairs with me. Ihave someone who wants to meet youvery much.

DANIEL(confused)

Who?

SONIAYoull see.

Turning around, Sonia opens the door and holds it forDaniel. Reluctantly, he walks past Sonia and heads into...

INT. CORRIDOR - NIGHT

...the corridor outside. He looks around and sees he isencircled on all sides by solid concrete walls. The door tohis cell shuts behind him as Sonia escorts him up thestairs.

INT. HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

The cries of a baby. We see a MAN holding a baby up on hisshoulder as he sways back and forth across the window. Hisback is turned to us so we are unable to see his face. Thebaby continues to cry even as the Man tries to hush him tosleep.

SONIA (O.S.)Professor?

The Man turns around and we are finally face to face with...PIERRE CHANG. He is dressed in ordinary clothing, not thewhite lab coats were used to seeing him in. Chang motionsfor Sonia to be quiet as she enters the living room. Pasther stands Daniel, quiet and timid as he hangs back.

CHANGThis is him?

SONIA(nods)

Yes.

CHANG(nods)

Alright. You can go now.

SONIAYes, sir.

Sonia turns and nods to Daniel as she heads to the frontdoor and opens it. Daniel watches her leave as Chang takes astep towards him.

CHANGHello, Daniel.

DANIELHow-How do you know my name?

CHANG(pointing backwards)

Sonia told me all about you.

DANIELOh...

CHANGMy name is Pierre Chang.

He extends his hand for a shake. Daniel takes it.

CHANG (CONTD)I work for DHARMA.

Daniel nods, but doesnt say anything. Chang pulls a chairout from a desk and slides it over to him.

CHANG (CONTD)(motioning)

Please, take a seat.

Daniel hesitantly sits down and looks up at Chang as he pats

his baby son on the back. Hes still crying.

CHANG (CONTD)Youre gonna have to excuse my son.Hes been sick. He hasnt had muchtime to sleep so hes cranky.

DANIELI-Its fine.

Chang smiles back at him and nods.

CHANGAnyways, I wanted to talk to youabout something that intrigued me.

DANIELAbout me?

CHANG(nods)

Yes.

Chang walks over to a drawer against the wall and slides thetop one open. He reaches inside and pulls out Danielsnotebook. He shows it to Daniel and hands it back to him.

CHANG (CONTD)You have a lot of interesting stuffwritten in there.

DANIELI-I guess so...

Chang sighs and stares at Daniel. His kind, friendly visagesuddenly transforms into a stern expression.

CHANGAlright, Daniel. I-I think itsuseless to go through the

pleasantries so-so...(beat)Tell me, how do you everythingthats written in your notebook?

Daniel looks up at Chang with a confused stare. His mouthhangs open, but he doesnt say a thing.

CHANG (CONTD)How do you know all of whats inthat book?

DANIEL

I-I dont know...

EXT. JUNGLE - NIGHT

FOLLOW Miles as he trails behind the group as they marchthrough the jungle. He is several steps behind the others.Charlotte is the only one walking alongside him.

CHARLOTTEWho do you think those people were?

MILESWerent we warned about theHostiles?

CHARLOTTEI figured by Hostiles, they meantthe survivors of 815.

MILES(shrugs)

Well, who knows? I sure as helldont.

Charlotte looks forward and watches as Sawyer and Julietlead the group through the jungle.

CHARLOTTEIf we find Ben and Locke, do youthink theyll really help us.

MILES(shrugs)

Theyre both nutcases, but whoknows? If these guys are willing tofind em then by all means Im withem.

CHARLOTTEJust a few hours ago you wanted tohave nothing to do with thesepeople.

Miles chuckles and eyes Charlotte.

MILESWell if theyre gonna get meanswers then Im gonna follow emlike a rabbit to a carrot.

(beat)

Dont you want answers too?

CHARLOTTEOf course I do, but not if itsgonna get me killed!

MILESThen you better stay close.

Suddenly, a loud ROAR emanates throughout the jungle. Theentire group spins around, searching for the source of thesound. Miles and Charlottes faces transform into confusedlooks.

SAWYERCmon! We gotta run!

Miles turns to see Sawyer scurrying off further into thejungle. Juliet, Rose, and Bernard follow him without asecond thought, leaving Miles and Charlotte to stand theretogether. The two comrades trade expressions of curiosityand confusion as another roar booms through the night air.

CHARLOTTEMiles, lets go.

Miles turns to Charlotte and nods. The two of them hurry offafter Sawyer and the others as the sound of falling treestears through the jungle. A set of trees to their rightcollapses as the MONSTER reveals itself with a menacingroar. Miles eyes widen in fright as he sprints afterCharlotte in the groups direction.

A few yards ahead of Miles and Charlotte, Sawyer and theothers are still running. Rose seems to be losing breath asshe winds back and forth through the trees. Bernard puts ahelping hand on her shoulder and helps her along across thejungle. Ahead of them, Sawyer and Juliet are still sprintingaway from the Monster. Suddenly, they hear the roar of the

Monster dissipate. Stopping in their tracks, Sawyer andJuliet turn and look around in confusion.

SAWYERIs it gone?

JULIETI hope so.

Rose and Bernard hobble over to them as they try to catchtheir breaths.

JULIET (CONTD)

Are you two alright?

BERNARD(nods)

I think so.(to Rose)

Are you fine, Honey?

ROSE(coughs)

Yeah, Ill be okay. Ill be okay.

Juliet nods and put a comforting hand on Roses shoulder.She pats Bernard on the back as she looks into the darknessof the jungle.

SAWYERWhered Ginger and Jackie Chan go?

JULIETI dont know.

She hears the sound of heavy breathing getting closer andcloser until... Charlotte breaks through the bushes in frontof her and drops to her knees. Breathing heavily and loudly,Charlotte looks up at Juliet with a look of relief.

CHARLOTTEThank God. What was that thing?

Juliet reaches down and helps Charlotte to her feet.

JULIETA security system. Designed toprotect the Island.

SAWYERWhat? A security system?

JULIETYes. A highly advanced securitysystem.

CHARLOTTEDesigned by DHARMA?

JULIETMost likely.

Charlotte catches her breath and nods as she wipes the dirtfrom her pants. Looking around, she notices Miles isnt with

her anymore.

CHARLOTTE(whispers)

Miles...

Sawyer notices he is gone as well and looks at Charlottewith a puzzled expression.

SAWYERWheres your little friend?

CHARLOTTE(shakes her head)

I-I dont know. He was-He was rightbehind me!

Charlotte turns around and stares further into the darkjungle as the roar of the Monster escalates once more.

EXT. JUNGLE - NIGHT

Heavy breathing. Loud footsteps. Miles is still sprintingthrough the jungle. He doesnt even bother to take a lookbehind him as he winds through trees and bushes. All he canthink of is getting away from the sound of that monstrousROAR. Suddenly, he trips and his face splatters on cold, wetground. His face is covered in mud as he slowly looks up.Grunting, he climbs to his feet and wipes his face with theend of his shirt. As he continues to walk forward, Milesface begins to contort into a confused grimace.

FROM MILES POV

A PIT. The rotting carcasses of animals lay in the pitcovered in a mixture of straw, grass, blood, and mud.

EXT. JUNGLE - MASS GRAVE - NIGHT

Miles takes a step back as we WIDEN to reveal he is standingin the same spot as the pit the killed DHARMA Initiativemembers were thrown into by Ben and the Others. However,there are no human bodies in the pit. Only animals. Milescovers his mouth and nose with both hands as he steps awayfrom the pit.

Suddenly... we begin to hear WHISPERS. Miles spins around.His eyes shift in every direction as he tries to sort outthe whispers. His eyes get wider and wider as the number ofwhispers continues to pile up. There are so many whispersnow that it all sounds like a jumbled mess.

Miles steps away from the pit, but his knees suddenly buckleand he drops to the ground. Sweat drips down his face as hegrabs at his forehead. With his other hand, he stretches itout as if asking someone for a reprieve. His breathing getsheavier and he starts to crawl back as if trying to escapefrom something. However, it is futile as his body fallsbackwards and his eyes sink into the back of his head.

INT. SHADY STORE - DAY (FLASHBACK)

A young Miles -- probably eighteen or so -- wanders around asmall, crowded shop. It is dimly lit and cramped withseveral shelves of odd objects sitting around. Miles eyesgaze back and forth across the room as he walks up to thefront counter. He stands there and rings the bell in frontof him. Seconds later, a HOODED WOMAN appears from behind acurtain of beads like a ghost. She looks up at Miles, but weare unable to see her face. It is shrouded by the shadows ofher hood.

HOODED WOMAN(in a British accent)

I know you.

MILESYou do?

HOODED WOMANYour name is Miles.

Miles furrows his brow at the Hooded Woman.

MILESYeah, howd you know?

HOODED WOMANYou know how I know. Thats whyyoure here.

The Hooded Woman giggles to herself then waves for Miles tofollow her.

HOODED WOMAN (CONTD)Come.

The Hooded Woman pushes aside the curtain of beads andvanishes into the back room of her store. Hesitantly, Mileswalks around the side of the counter and follows her intothe back.

INT. SHADY STORE - BACK ROOM - DAY

Miles passes through the curtain of beads into an evendarker room than the one he was just in. There is only onesource of light in this room and it is a dim lightbulbhanging from the ceiling. In the center of the small room isa circular, wooden table with two chairs on either side ofit. The Hooded Woman walks over to it and pulls aside onechair for Miles and takes a seat on the other one. Milesfollows suit and sits down across from her.

MILESY-You knew I was coming?

HOODED WOMANOf course I did.

MILESHow?

HOODED WOMANThe same way I know about thethings youve seen

MILESW-What are you talking about?

HOODED WOMANDont try to hide it, Miles. Youshould embrace your gift.

With a perplexed look on his face, Miles leans in and staresat the Hooded Woman.

MILESHow do you know about that?

HOODED WOMANI know everything... about yourpast, present... and future.

MILESThen tell me -- why do I havethis-this ability?

HOODED WOMANIs that honestly why you came here,Miles?

Miles seems reluctant to answer, but he nods.

MILESYeah. I wanna know why I have them.

Why me?

The Hooded Woman nods and reaches out for Miles hand. Helicks his lips as he contemplates this. Sighing, he sets hisleft hand down in her palm and she clasps it tightly withboth hands.

HOODED WOMANYoure special, Miles. Ive beenall around the world and Ive neverencountered someone like you --someone who could walk on bothsides.

MILESWalk on both sides?

HOODED WOMANYouve passed through the veil,havent you?

MILESI dont know what youre talkinabout, lady. What veil?

HOODED WOMANI think you know what I mean.

Miles suddenly pulls his hand back, startling the HoodedWoman. She sighs and folds both hands on the table as Milesjumps to his feet.

MILESIm outta here!

Miles spins around and starts to leave, but...

HOODED WOMAN

Dont you want to know your future,Miles?

MILESNot really!

Without turning back, Miles waves goodbye to the HoodedWoman and proceeds out the back room.

HOODED WOMANAre you sure you dont want toknow... how you help save theworld?

Miles suddenly stops dead in his tracks and turns around. Hepasses through the curtain of beads and stares at the HoodedWoman.

MILESWhat did you say?

HOODED WOMANIve already seen your path, Miles.Its quite a turbulent one.

MILESYou said Id... save the world?

HOODED WOMAN(nods)

Yes, Miles.

MILESWhat do you mean?

HOODED WOMANYoull know when the time comes.

MILESWhats that supposed to mean?

The Hooded Woman stands up from her seat and walks aroundthe table over to Miles.

HOODED WOMANYour purpose is to speak with Him.

MILESWho?

A long, silent beat as Miles and the Hooded Woman look atone another eye-to-eye.

HOODED WOMANHis name is Jacob.

INT. HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT (END FLASHBACK)

A room. Dark and foggy. The only shred of light in the roomis coming from the moonlight streaming in through the opencurtains hanging across the window. On the bed lies a WOMANwith stringy hair covering her face. She lets out a slightcough as she tosses and turns in bed. Suddenly, yellow lightpours into the room as the door creaks open.

Entering the room are Pierre Chang and his baby son. Changcradles the baby in his arms, softly singing to him as hewalks him over to his crib. The crib is right beside thewindow, under the shining moonlight. Chang kisses his sonsforehead and quietly sets him in the crib. Reaching up, hecloses the curtains and walks over to the Woman. He leansforward and pecks her cheek with a kiss. She stirs again,but doesnt awaken.

A concerned look sits on Changs face as he pulls theblanket more over the Womans body. After caressing herhair, Chang turns and exits the bedroom.

INT. HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Chang flips open the folder and shows Daniel an x-rayphotograph of what appears to be a small chamber. It lookslike there is a wheel pinned sideways to a wall inside it.

JULIET (CONTD)Youre nose...

Charlotte can feel it too. She touches the area below hernose and above her mouth to feel blood stick to the tips ofher fingers. She stares at her fingers in bewilderment aseveryone around her wonders whats happening.

ROSE(whispers)

Oh my God...

Charlottes eyes suddenly widen as she drops to the ground.She can barely hold herself up as she digs her fingers intothe dirt beneath her. Crouching down, Juliet switches intoher role as a doctor and puts a comforting arm aroundCharlottes shoulders.

JULIETCharlotte. Charlotte! Can you hearme?

CHARLOTTEY-Yeah...

JULIETTry to stay with me, okay? Justbreath and stay calm.

Charlotte nods her head as Juliet helps her sit up.

SAWYERWhats goin on?

JULIET(shakes her head)

I dont know.

ROSEIts the same thing that happenedto Bryan!

Sawyer turns to her with a confused look on his face thenlooks back down at Charlotte. Her eyes have closed and herbody is slumped against the tree. Juliet notices as well andtries to shake her away.

CLOSE IN on the COMPASS in Lockes hand. Its pointing himand his group south as they advance across the jungle. Lockeis leading the pack with Richard beside him and the threeOthers following close behind. The three Others are eacharmed with a rifle while Locke and Richard visibly have gunson their holsters.

LOCKEWhen you said that everybody onthis Island is at risk, what didyou mean?

RICHARDPardon?

LOCKEEarlier, when your friend, Carson,died -- you said that everybody onthis Island is now at risk.

Richard looks at Locke out the corner of his eye and sighs.

RICHARDWhen Ben moved the Island, hecaused the exotic matter underneaththe Orchid to discharge particlesof itself across the Island. Theseparticles of exotic matter are whatallow the Island and itsinhabitants to travel through time.

(beat)I believe the people on this Islandhave been infected by theseparticles.

LOCKEInfected? You make it sound likeits some sort of disease.

RICHARD(beat)

It could be seen that way -- yes.When people are infected by theseparticles, they-they become...unstuck in time.

Locke and Richard pass through an arch of trees. Richardwalks over to Robert while Locke stops and stares inamazement.

He points down at the MASS GRAVE where Miles body liesstill. Locke, however, is already staring at it. Eyes wideand jaw dropped, Locke cant believe what hes seeing.

LOCKEI-I-Ive been here.

RICHARDWhat?

LOCKEThis-This is where Ben left me fordead!

RICHARDJohn?

Locke takes a step forward and stares down into the pit.There are no dead bodies there; just animal carcasses and anunconscious Miles.

RICHARDI think I know when we are now.

Hearing those words, Locke turns to Richard with a perplexedlook on his face.

INT. BUILDING - LOBBY - NIGHT (FLASHBACK)

Miles, dressed in a security guards uniform, slips into ajacket as he nods to another GUARD sitting by the frontcounter. The Guard nods back at him and smiles as Milesheads over to where he sits.

Miles hurries past the empty parking spots to a carsitting in the middle of the lot. As he nears the car, hepulls a ring of keys from his jacket pocket and finds hiscar keys. Hes about to stick the key into the keyhole ofthe drivers side door when he accidentally drops it. Hebends down to pick the keys up when he suddenly hears...

Miles averts his eyes from Abaddon and gulps. Abaddon smilesat him and quietly closes the door. Miles doesnt even seemto notice Abaddon walking away as he grasps the steeringwheel with both hands. A look of calm ferocity sits on hisface as he stares out at nothing. Suddenly, the angerwelling up inside him releases itself and he starts slamminghis fists against the steering wheel.

EXT. JUNGLE - MASS GRAVE - NIGHT (END FLASHBACK)

CLOSE IN on Miles eye as it snaps open and shifts left andright. WIDEN to reveal Miles backing away as he stares atLocke, Richard, and the three Others. His hand slips anddigs into the pile of animal carcasses he is laying on.Realizing where he is, Miles lets out a frightened yelp andclimbs out of the pit.

MILESW-What the hell?

Miles wipes the dirt and dried blood on his clothes as helooks up at Locke.

MILES (CONTD)Weve been lookin for you?

Locke shoots him a confused look.

LOCKEWho?

MILES(sighs)

Theyre looking for answers. Theyfigured Ben could provide them.

Miles stares at Locke incredulously as if Locke shouldalready know what hes talking about.

MILESWhat was that purple light? Why arepeople just randomly dying? Stufflike that, yknow.

Richards ears perk up at this and he takes a step forward.

EXT. JUNGLE - NIGHT

A blue and white DHARMA van drives up a beaten path in themiddle of the jungle. The path heads up a slight hill thencomes to a stop several yards from where an unbuilt

structure stands. The frame of the building is completedalong with one wall, but the rest sits on the side as a pileof metal and wood.

The doors to the DHARMA van open and BAKER and JORDAN hopout. Jordan slides the side door open and Chang steps out,followed by Daniel. As he steps out into the jungle, Danielgazes up at the unbuilt structure in amazement.

CHANGWelcome to the Orchid.

Chang walks towards the Orchid with Daniel right behind him.Baker and Jordan fall back with their weapons slung aroundtheir shoulders. The four of them head towards the Orchidand step through the frame.

As he steps into the unbuilt Orchid, Daniel glances aroundat the empty structures and turns to Chang with a confusedlook on his face.

DANIELW-Why are you showing me this?

CHANGBecause... I think you were senthere to help me.

Daniel furrows his brow at Chang who walks over to thecompleted wall. He reaches down at a small panel attached tothe wall and touches a switch.

Chang flips the switch and the wall in front of themsuddenly rises up, revealing a small, secret compartment.Chang motions for Daniel to enter.

Daniel stops and looks at Chang for a second, hesitating.Finally, he takes a step into the compartment, followed byChang.

INT. THE ORCHID - ELEVATOR - NIGHT

Daniel stares in amazement at the elevator hes just steppedinto. Theres nothing there, but the fact that hes justhere is astonishing enough. Behind him, Chang pulls anotherswitch attached to the wall, causing the wall to close overthem. Daniel stares through the new glass window into theunbuilt part of the Orchid and watches as the elevatorcreaks down.

INT. THE ORCHID - CORRIDOR - NIGHT

The elevator door slides upwards as Chang steps out followedby an amazed Daniel. He is staring at every little thingaround him with curiosity and excitement like a little boyat a toy store. Chang leads him down the short corridorinto...

INT. THE ORCHID - STATION - NIGHT

...the actual station. Like the rest of the station, thispart of the structure seems incomplete. The walls, floors,and ceiling are built into the place, but aside from that,the only thing standing is the strange mechanism in the

middle of the room. At one end of the room is an oval-shapeddoor -- the same one Ben entered before teleporting himselfto the future. Daniel stares at it with curiosity as lightsturn on all around him. He spins around and realizes Changflipped a switch in one corner of the room.

DANIELThis is the Orchid?

CHANG(nods)

Yes, Daniel. This is the Orchid.

Chang walks over to the mechanism in the middle of the roomand presses some buttons on the panel. Daniel hears ahumming sound behind him and sees the oval-shaped doorsliding open. He watches closely as it reveals a cave wall.

DANIELWhere does that lead to?

CHANGCome. This is what I brought youhere for.

Chang walks past Daniel and stands in front of theoval-shaped door. Daniel follows him and looks down at whatChang is staring at. There is no floor past the door; just asmall tunnel with a metal ladder that leads into thedarkness below. CLOSE IN on Daniels intrigued yet confusedexpression as he stares down the tunnel while Chang turns tohim with concern.

CHANG (CONTD)That x-ray image I showed youearlier. This is where we took thatpicture. Underneath us is a sourceof virtually unlimited power.

Daniels face contorts into a more perplexed visage as helooks up at Chang wondrously.

DANIELWhy exactly are you showing methis?

Chang shoots Daniel a grave and intimidating look.

CHANGSomeone would come to us. Someonethat knew things about our work.Someone...

EXT. JUNGLE - NIGHT

CLOSE IN on Sawyers irritated face. Hes marching throughthe jungle still with Charlotte on his back. Juliet, Rose,and Bernard are walking a few steps ahead of him. He sighsand struggles to keep Charlotte up on his back as he followsJuliet towards their unknown destination. Suddenly, Julietstops and turns to her companions.

JULIETI think we should stop.

Sawyer shoots her a confused glance.

SAWYERWhy? We aint findin Ben by justsittin here!

JULIETWeve been walking for hours,James, and awake for even longer. Ithink its time we rested.

Bernard and Rose are already sitting by the time Juliet isdone. They are comforting one another with their arms slungaround each others shoulders. Sawyer lets out an annoyedgrunt and sets Charlottes unconscious body on the ground.Cracking the kinks out of his neck, he takes a seat on thetrunk of a tree and pulls out a canteen attached to hisbelt.

As Sawyer takes a sip from the canteen, Juliet walks over tohim and stands over Charlotte. She kneels beside Charlottesbody and grabs her face.

SAWYERWhat are you doin?

JULIETChecking how shes doing.

SAWYERWell I been carryin her on my back

for bout an hour. Im pretty sureshes still out of it.

Ignoring Sawyer, Juliet pries Charlottes left eye open withher fingers. She then checks the right. Both appear dilated.Shaking her head, she climbs to her feet and puts her handson her hips.

SAWYER (CONTD)Somethin wrong, Sugar?

JULIETI cant explain it. Ive never seenanything like this. Her body feelsnormal, but-but everything else --its just wrong.

SAWYERYou sure its not--

Sawyer stops as he notices Juliet gawking at him. He furrowshis brow at her and stares back.

SAWYER (CONTD)What?

JULIETJames, youre bleeding.

Sawyers eyes widen and he feels blood drip onto his hand. Acouple more drops of blood fall on his hand and he tries towipe the rest away from his nose. He jumps to his feet, butsuddenly bends over as if in tremendous amount of pain.

Sawyer lets out a painful yelp as he grabs at his hair. Hiseyes widen and he suddenly falls to one side. Juliet dropsto the ground with him and tries to lift his head. He staresback at her with a blank stare as his body goes limp.

EXT. JUNGLE - NIGHT (FLASH)

A loud, painful moan combined with heavy breathing. All wehear are these sounds as a hand shoves aside a tree branchrevealing... KATE and CLAIRE. Shes giving birth!

KATERelax! Relax! Just breathe.Breathe!

Claire lets out another loud grunt. We see past the bushesbehind Kate and Claire sit JIN and CHARLIE, whos pacingback and forth behind the shrubs.

KATE (CONTD)Good. Okay. You ready? I can seeit. Its close! Go! Go! Go!

Claire moans again in pain as she struggles to push AARONout the womb.

KATE (CONTD)Thats really good! I think itsclose. Cmon!

Another painful moan.

KATE (CONTD)Yeah! Thats it! Good! Good! Good!I can see the top of its head! Its

almost here!Shes smiling at Claire, trying to encourage her to keeppushing.

Finally, Claire lets out another ear shattering grunt. Itsthe longest one yet, but it pays off. A smile forms onKates face as Claire continues to push. Finally, Clairetopples backwards and lays down. She lets out a sigh ofrelief as she continues breathing heavily. In front of her,Kate is smiling as she pulls Aaron out. Hes crying.

KATE (CONTD)Its a boy!

Claire starts to cry as she sees the beautiful baby boy infront of her. She smiles as Kate carries Aaron over to her.She takes the baby from Kates arms and holds him close toher chest.

CLAIREIts a baby boy!

Behind them, Charlie and Jin step out from behind the bushesto see the newborn child. Charlie has a look of disbelief onhis face as Jin smiles happily as if the child were his own.They hug as Kate helps Claire clean off Aaron.

CLAIRE (CONTD)(smiles)

I have a son! I have a son.

She shushes Aaron as he continues crying while Charlie andJin laugh with one another. Kate smiles down proudly atClaire and Aaron as we WIDEN to reveal SAWYER standing inthe bushes behind them all.

Hes wide-eyed and awe-struck as he stares at whatshappening before him. He seems unable to say a word as he

finally moves after what seems like years.SAWYER

(whispers)What the hell...?

He takes a step towards Claire and Aaron and tries to touchthe boy. Just before his fingers reach Aarons soft head, hestops and shivers.

Kate doesnt hear him. Nor do any of the others. Charlie andJin look happily down at Claire as she hugs her newborn sontightly.

Finally, Kate looks up. However, the look on her facesuggests she doesnt know where the voice is coming from.Charlie, Jin, and Claire all look up as well with frightenedlooks on their faces.

A look of desperation appears on Sawyers face as hestretches out his hands.

SAWYER (CONTD)Y-You dont--

Kate hurries over to Claire and takes a pair of scissors tocut the umbilical cord connecting Claire to her child. Assoon as she does, she helps Claire up to her feet withCharlie and Jins help. Together, the four of them, alongwith baby Aaron, hurry back to the beach camp.

SAWYER (CONTD)Wait... Wait!

Kate takes one last gaze back to where Sawyer is standing.Its almost as if shes staring right at him. Their eyeslock with one another even if she doesnt realize it. Sawyerlooks to her with a mournful look as she turns back aroundand escorts Claire back to the camp. Alone in the middle ofthe jungle, Sawyer gulps and holds back the tears welling upin his eyes. He sniffs as he clenches his teeth and looksaround him in wonderment.

EXT. JUNGLE - DAY (DAWN)

CLOSE IN on Sawyers closed eye as it suddenly snaps open.Coughing incessantly loud, he props himself up on bothelbows and stares around him in awe. Juliet, Rose, andBernard all stare at him with surprise and confusion.Sitting by the tree behind them is Charlotte. Shes finally

conscious again.

JULIETYou have a nice dream?

Sawyer wipes the spit from the side of his lips and glaresat Juliet.

SAWYER(sighs)

Yeah. It had unicorns and poniesand bright rainbows.

Juliet smirks at him and extends a helping hand. Sawyertakes the hand and climbs to his feet. Running his fingerthrough his hair, he tries to calm down and regain hisbreath.

CHARLOTTEIt happened to you too?

SAWYERYou had a dream too?

CHARLOTTEIm not exactly sure it was adream, Sawyer.

BERNARDWhat happened?

SAWYERI-I saw Kate... and Claire andAaron. Jin and Charlie were theretoo.

ROSEWhat?

SAWYERIt felt so real. I thought I wasreally there, but... I dont know.

Everyone looks at Sawyer oddly. He has a morose look on hisface as he reminisces. Shaking the thoughts out of his head,he turns back to Juliet with a serious stare.

JULIET(nods)

Right. We should go.

Rose and Bernard nod in return while Charlotte struggles tostand up. Juliet notices and turns to her.

JULIET (CONTD)Can you make it?

Charlotte looks up at her and nods.

CHARLOTTEYeah. Yeah. I think Im fine.

JULIETAlright. Lets get moving then.

The group starts to move when Sawyer suddenly puts out ahalting hand. Everyone turns and looks at him with aconfused stare.

JULIET (CONTD)What are you doing, James?

SAWYERSshh!

(whispers)I think I hear somethin.

ROSEI dont hear anything.

They all look around them and wonder what Sawyer is talkingabout. Suddenly, they hear a rustling in the bushes ahead ofthem and turn.

JULIETThere!

Sawyer pulls out his gun and aims it at the bushes.Suddenly... BANG! A loud gunshot rings out behind them,prompting all five of them to spin around in surprise.Sawyer aims his gun in the direction of the gunshot whenanother sound echoes behind them. The cocking of a gun.Sawyer sighs and grits his teeth together as he feels thenozzle of a gun touch the back of his neck.

The bushes begin to rustle with life as several armed guardsin JUMPSUITS reveal themselves. There are about four ofthem, their guns all aimed at the five castaways. On theirlapels are the symbols of DHARMA.

SAWYER

(angry)Youve gotta be kidding me.

JULIET(whispers)

Everyone just stay calm.

JUMPSUIT #1Who are you people?!

Jumpsuit #1 aims his gun at Juliet and walks right up toher.

BERNARDWere from the crash of--

JULIETBernard! No.

Bernard turns to look at Juliet with a puzzled glance. Sheshakes her head at him as Jumpsuit #1 grabs her wrists andhandcuffs them behind her back.

JUMPSUIT #1Tell us now. Who are you people?

No answer. They all follow suit and remain silent as theJumpsuits put them all in cuffs.

JUMPSUIT #2What do we do now?

JUMPSUIT #1We take them back to the barracks.Cmon.

Sawyer stares over at Juliet who remains calm and quiet asthe Jumpsuits lead them away. She notices his glare, butsimply winks. Sawyer furrows his brow at her. Hes moreconfused than ever. Jumpsuit #3 pushes him forward as theyall begin to march off.

INT. THE ORCHID - CORRIDOR - DAY (DAWN)

Daniel follows Chang down the short corridor to theelevator. Chang presses a switch, prompting the elevatordoor to slide open. Hes about to step inside when Danielgrabs him by the shoulder. Chang turns to him with a puzzled

stare.

CHANGYes, Daniel?

DANIELI-I think the reason I was sentback in time... to here... was tostop you.

Chang furrows his brow at Daniel.

CHANG

Stop me from what?

DANIELContinuing your work. I-Ive seenthe future... and you -- youre nota part of it.

Changs face contorts into a look of surprise.

DANIEL (CONTD)(gulps)

And neither are the rest of DHARMA.

Daniel looks up at Chang. Their eyes meet and Chang staresat Daniel defensively.

CHANGWhat do you mean?

DANIELI-I mean... in the future, theDHARMA Initiative is... destroyed.

(beat)Horrible things are going to happenin the future. You have to stopwhat youre doing and leave thisIsland... or else...

Chang gulps and nods assuredly to himself.

CHANGI-Im sorry, Daniel, but one thingIve learned from my researchhere... is that the future cannot

EXT. JUNGLE - CLEARING - DAY (DAWN)

Miles leads the way as Locke, Richard, and the three Othersfollow closely. An irritated look sits on his face as hemarches through the jungle clearing. He raises his eyes upto the sky and sees the darkness being invaded by the light.The sun is just beginning to rise and is spreading acrossthe black sky like a paintbrush. Looking away, Milescontinues onward as silence pervades the group.

MILES(suddenly)

So... who is this Jacob guy?

LOCKEJacob is a great man.

MILESYeah, thats really descriptive. Imean who is he? Im guessing hes apretty important guy, right? Why?

No one says anything. They just keep walking. Miles turnsand shoots an annoyed glance at Locke as he stops walking.

MILES (CONTD)Hey, I dont wanna be here so ifyou want me to take you to whoeverthis Jacob guy is, you better startgiving me answers.

Locke glares at Miles. Hes not afraid. Not one bit.

His face is pale and his eyes are tired. Hes gotone duffel bag sitting on the floor by his feet. His hand ispressed up against the window as he stares outside.

Miles ears perk up to the sound of the intercom and hetakes a look down at the ticket in his hand. The destination

reads: SUVA, FIJI. Licking his lips, he looks towards Gate8. There are several people lined up already, waiting toboard the plane. Miles gulps and gazes back at the ticket.He starts to crumple it when suddenly...

FEMALE VOICE (O.S.)What are you doing, Miles?

Miles quickly turns around to face the HOODED WOMAN frombefore. Her face is still concealed to us, but Miles can seeher. The confused look on his face suggests the face isfamiliar, but surprising to him. Miles takes a step back ashe stares at the Hooded Woman.

MILESYou?

HOODED WOMANHello, Miles.

MILESW-What are you doing here? How-Howare you even still alive?

HOODED WOMAN(chuckles)

Im not that old now, Miles.

MILESWhy are you here?

HOODED WOMAN(beat)

Im here to help you.

A perplexed expression crosses Miles face.

MILESHelp me with what?

HOODED WOMANYour decision. To get on that planeor not.

Miles takes a look back at the gate. There are still peopleboarding.

Contemplating, Miles licks his lips and looks away from theHooded Woman. Theres a conflicted look sitting on his face.

MILESW-What if I cant?

HOODED WOMANYou can, Miles, and you will.

(beat)Youve still got work to do.

Gulping, Miles takes his plane ticket and looks it over onelast time. He stares up at the Hooded Woman who nods back athim. Sighing, Miles heads towards Gate 8 to board the plane.

MILES(to himself)

I know Im gonna regret this.

Shaking his head, Miles hands the ticket-taker his ticket.

She smiles and nods at him as he heads past her.Still by the window, the Hooded Woman watches as Milesdisappears through the gate. We FOLLOW the Hooded Womansbody as shes slowly revealed. A white blouse. A purpleshawl. An ouroborous pin clipping the shawl to her shoulder.And bright white hair that accentuates the seeminglynonthreatening smile on her face. It is MS. HAWKING. WeFOCUS on her unassuming visage as we CLOSE.
