A NEW LOGO

These guidelines describe the visual and verbal elements that represent Bentonville Film Festival’s new identity. This includes our name, logo and other elements such as color, type and graphics.

Sending a consistent and controlled message of who we are is essential to presenting a strong, unified image of our organization.

These guidelines reflect BFF’s commitment to quality, consistency and style. The BFF brand, including the logo, name, colors and identifying elements, are valuable organization assets.

Each of us is responsible for protecting the organization’s interests by preventing unauthorized or incorrect use of the BFF’s name and marks.

Our Logo is the key building block of our identity, the primary visual element that identifies us. The signature is a combination

of the symbol itself and our organization name – they have a fixed relationship that should never be changed in any way.

1) The Logo SymbolConsists of a powerful element evoking the culture of inclusion symbolizing heart and diversity.

2) The Full Title LogoCarefully chosen for its modern style, flexibility and colorful display.

3) The TaglineThe Tagline “include” always appears in the talk bubble. The Tagline always appears with the logo Symbol. The Tagline is used with the Full Title logo when independent from the logo Symbol. If the Tagline is used in conjuncion with the Full Title logo the word “include” is to be black. Colorful letters in the talk bubble are not to be used when combined with colorful letters in Full Title logo.

THE LOGO

The BFF logo is to be used in a very exact and concise manner and is NOT to be altered in any way, shape or form.

The BFF logo is comprised of two elements, the Symbol and Full Title. The logo Symbol is a powerful image evoking the culture of inclusion - negative space allowing the background to show through also displays the heart of the organization equal to openess of diversity.

The BFF logo Symbol has a particular relationship with the Full Title, Bentonville Film Festival, logo. The Full Title logo has been carefully chosen for its modern style, flexibility and a colorful display representing inclusion.

Both the BFF logo Symbol and the Full Title, Bentonville Film Festival, logo use the Tagline“include” in a talk bubble. This Tagline is always to be used with the BFF logo. It is to be used with the Bentoville Film Festival Full Title logo only if it is used independently from the BFF logo Symbol. The Tagline “include” is full color when the BFF logo appears alone and in black or reverse when used with the Full Title, Bentonville Film Festival, logo. The BFF logo is presented through the use of color as well as shape and form. The colors continue with brand equity of inclusivityand add new colors representing colorful people.

It is important to keep the logos clear of any other graphic elements. To regulate this, an exclusion zone has been established around the logo. This exclusion zone indicates the closest any other graphic element or message can be positioned in relation to

the logo Symbol, the Full Title logo, and the Tagline – they have a fixed relationship that should never be changed in any way.

DefinitionWhenever you use the logo, it should be surrounded with clear space to ensure its visibility and impact. No graphic elements of any kind should invade this zone. These guidelines address the logo elements within a square shape but the same guidlines should be applied when placing it in any shape workspace with regard to distance from borders and competing elements.

UsageTo calculate the clear space take “X” and multiply accordingly.

BFF’s logo must be legible. Whenever the logo is placed on a background color, its postive or negative use must be determined by the value of the background and its legibility on the background. If the background is white and four color process inks

are available, use the full color version of the logo. The full color logo is always prefered on a white background. An alternative limited color logo is used specifically for very dark or black background.

Sometimes the need for an alternative logo arises when confronted with constrained space. Use these logos only when neccessary. Take note to not enlarge Small Horizontal logo because the talk bubble has been altered for legibility.

SMALL HORIZONTAL LOGO COMBINATIONThe talk bubble has been enlarged to ensure legibility when used this small. Do not use oversized talk bubble at any other size.

THE FONT

The old posters and signs in the traditional neighborhood of Buenos Aires called Montserrat inspired Julieta Ulanovsky to design a typeface that rescues the beauty of urban typography

from the first half of the twentieth century. The goal is to rescue what is in Montserrat and set it free, under a free and open source license, the SIL Open Font License.

THE FONT

Source Sans Pro is a sans serif typeface created by Paul D. Hunt for Adobe Systems. It is the first open source font family from Adobe, distributed under the SIL Open Font License.

Inspired by the forms of the American Type Founders’ gothics by Morris Fuller Benton with both a larger x-height and character width. It is available in six weights in upright and italic styles.

EXTERNAL COLOR PALETTE

Usage:A palette of neutral and accent colors are provided. White is a very important part of the color palette. White, in juxtaposition, will allow neutrals to be viewed as fresh and modern. Accent colors should be used sparingly (less than 5 % of the palette in one piece) for color coding.

Explanation: A sophisticated color palette will represent BFF as a serious film festival. It will provide a complimentary background for the artwork and photography of the festival.

Geena Davis has personally drawn our illustrated mascot, Beena. The bee is a symbol representing Bentonville. It evokes the playful side of the film festival, personifying the brand.

Usage:Use Beena with the Full Title logo and Tagline only when full color is available. Beena is to remain in porportion to title logo and tagline as shown below. If Beena is to appear alone, she is to appear with the “include” Tagline and BFF should be reprensented in proximity. This logo combination is to be used as an extension to the main brand logo.

Explanation: The Beena character personifies the playful side of our brand. Standing tall and fluffy with upright antennae, she is both proud and friendly. She holds the BFF heart in her four hands. We are not sure if she has wings, but we do not see any from this front view. She is a colorful display representing inclusion.

This specialty logo is a clever combination of the mascot character, Beena and the BFF logo Symbol. Beena replaces the negative space that represent the letter B.

Usage:This Specialty Logo is to be used in situations where the audience is already familiar with our overall brand and only when full color is available. It can be used as a concise reinforcement of who we are for audiences that are already engaged. It is reccomended that this logo be used in proximity with the full title logo.

Explanation: The incorpration of Beena into the logo Symbol is a specialty extension. It is a clever combination of our mascot’s playful personalty with the professional and clean main logo.
