INTRODUCTION This guide is to help users to familiarise with the services and facilities available at the Main Library of Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The Library Guide for the branch libraries is available separately. It is our commitment to provide the best available services and facilities to students and academicians in their pursuit for intellectual excellence. LIBRARY AT A GLANCE Universiti Pertanian Malaysia was established in 1971 as a result of the merger between the College of Agriculture Malaya and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Malaya. The Library of the College of agriculture Malaya thus became the Universiti Pertanian Malaysia Library. The university was renamed as Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 1997 by than Prime Minister Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, and the Library later became known as the Universiti Putra Malaysia Library. Soon after on the 23rd May 2002, the Library was finally renamed and now known as Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, after the late great-great-grandfather of the current Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj. The present library comprises of the Main Library and four (4) branch libraries namely Medicine and Health Sciences Library, Veterinary Medicine Library, Engineering and Architecture Library and Bintulu Campus Library, Sarawak. Later in April 2012 as part of the library expansion, the “Graduate Wing” was created as to provide a special and conducive area exclusively for the postgraduate students. At this juncture the Main Library building comprises of two (2) blocks with a total floor area of approximately 19,007 square meters and able to accommodate about 2000 users at any one time. The building is fully equipped with Wi-Fi internet facilities which are available to registered users. The PSAS holds a very comprehensive collection of printed, media, and digital materials. There are also prominent and sizable online research databases and full text electronic journals in a various range of subject disciplines available for it’s users. These online databases and journals can be accessed within and outside UPM through the Library Website (http:// www.lib.upm.edu.my). Other service such as the Library webOPAC is available and can be accessed from the same website. Fines for overdue books RM0.20 cents for each day of late return All fines can be paid at the Main Library and Branch Libraries Circulation Counters. Users who have not cleared their fines will be barred from all lending and renewal service. Fines not cleared within 2 months. Students - the amount due will be transferred to the Students Debtors Ledger. Staff - the amount due will be deducted from their salary. 2. Damped / Damaged Book or Loss of books 2.1 Damped / Damaged Book Before borrowing, users are advised to check the physical conditions of the book. If it is found the books are to be not in good condition, users are required to have the book stamped with as “Bahan Telah Rosak” at the Circulation Counter. Users are to immediately report the condition of the book at the Main Library and Branch Libraries Circulation Counters. Penalties are as below :- Either to Replace the affected books + service charge + fines, or Pay amount in accordance of the price of the books + service charge + fines. If the books are found damped / damaged during returning, users are also responsible to replace / pay the fines. 2.2 Loss of Books Replacement / paying back for the lost books should be made within 1 month after the report is made. Failing which, fines will be transferred to the Students Debtors Ledger or via Staff Salary Deduction. 3. Fines will be imposed on users who are found stealing or damaging library materials. 4. Any form of duplicating or copying of information using electronic devices at the Malaysia Agriculture Collection Division and Media Collection are entirely prohibited. 5. Users are not allowed to reserve seats in the Library. 6. Children below 10 years old are not allowed to enter the Library. 7. Students are required to display student card while in the library. 8. The Chief Librarian has the rights to amend the Library Rules and Regulations as and when necessary. LIBRARY AT A GLANCE

PENGENALAN

Panduan Perpustakaan ini membantu anda mengenali Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) serta perkhidmatan dan kemudahan yang disediakan di Perpustakaan Utama. Panduan Perpustakaan Cawangan juga disediakan secara berasingan. Adalah menjadi komitmen kami untuk memberi perkhidmatan dan kemudahan yang terbaik kepada anda demi kemajuan dan kelestarian ilmu.

SEPINTAS LALU

Universiti Pertanian Malaysia ditubuhkan pada tahun 1971 hasil gabungan Kolej Pertanian Malaya dan Fakulti Pertanian Universiti Malaya. Justeru itu, Perpustakaan Kolej Pertanian Malaya telah menjadi Perpustakaan Universiti Pertanian Malaysia.

Pada tahun 1997, nama perpustakaan ditukar kepada Perpustakaan Universiti Putra Malaysia berikutan pertukaran nama Universiti Pertanian Malaysia kepada Universiti Putra Malaysia oleh Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Perdana Menteri Malaysia.

Pada 23 Mei 2002, nama Perpustakaan telah ditukar pula kepada Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad, sempena nama moyang Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj.

Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad, terdiri daripada Perpustakaan Utama dan empat (4) buah cawangan iaitu Perpustakaan Perubatan

dan Sains Kesihatan, Perpustakaan Perubatan Veterinar, Perpustakaan Kejuruteraan & Senibina dan Perpustakaan Kampus Bintulu, Sarawak. Manakala pada bulan April 2012, satu ruang khusus untuk pelajar siswazah telah disediakan, yang dikenali sebagai “Anjung Siswazah”.

Perpustakaan Utama terdiri daripada dua buah blok bangunan berkembar yang mempunyai keluasan lantai kira-kira 19,007 meter persegi dan menyediakan tempat duduk untuk lebih 2,000 orang pengguna pada setiap masa. Bangunan ini dilengkapi dengan kemudahan Wi-Fi kepada semua pengguna yang berdaftar.

PSAS memiliki koleksi yang merangkumi bahan bercetak, bahan media dan bahan digital. Perpustakaan juga melanggan pangkalan data dan jurnal elektronik dengan teks penuh dalam pelbagai bidang. Koleksi ini boleh dicapai dari dalam dan luar kampus melalui laman web PSAS (http://www.lib.upm.edu.my). Katalog Perpustakaan juga boleh dicapai melalui laman web ini.

PERATURAN

1. Kelewatan memulangkan buku• Denda sebanyak RM0.20 sen sehari akan

dikenakan bagi setiap buku yang lewat dipulangkan.

• Denda boleh dibayar di semua Kaunter Sirkulasi di Perpustakaan Utama dan Cawangan.

• Semua transaksi pinjaman dan pembaharuan buku akan disekat sekiranya pengguna mempunyai denda yang belum dijelaskan.

• Denda yang melebihi 2 bulan akan dipindahkan ke Lejar Hutang Pelajar bagi pelajar dan bagi staf, pemotongan gaji akan dilakukan.

2. Buku hilang / basah / rosak• Pastikan fizikal buku dalam keadaan baik

sebelum membuat pinjaman. Sekiranya tidak, peminjam perlu mendapatkan cop “Bahan telah rosak” di Kaunter Sirkulasi sebelum meneruskan pinjaman.

• Sekiranya buku yang dipinjam hilang, laporkan segera di Kaunter Sirkulasi Perpustakaan Utama atau Cawangan, untuk tindakan selanjutnya:• Membuat penggantian buku + bayaran

perkhidmatan + denda, atau • Bayar harga buku + bayaran perkhidmatan

+ denda.• Penggantian / pembayaran buku hilang

mesti dilakukan dalam tempoh 30 hari selepas laporan dibuat. Selepas tarikh tersebut, denda akan dimasukkan ke Lejar Hutang Pelajar / pemotongan gaji.

• Bagi buku yang dipulangkan dalam keadaan basah / rosak, pengguna juga adalah bertanggungjawab untuk membuat penggantian / pembayaran.

3. Mencuri, mengoyak bahan Perpustakaan boleh menyebabkan pengguna didenda.

4. Sebarang bentuk penyalinan maklumat menggunakan peralatan elektronik tidak dibenarkan di ruang Koleksi Media dan Koleksi Pertanian Malaysia.

5. Pengguna tidak dibenarkan menempah tempat duduk di ruang bacaan Perpustakaan.

6. Kanak-kanak di bawah umur 10 tahun tidak dibenarkan masuk ke Perpustakaan.

7. Pelajar dikehendaki mempamerkan kad pelajar ketika berada di Perpustakaan.
