(CTS 10 MINUTE DIARY)

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER READ: JOHN 14:15-21 MEDITATE Faced with temptation, Satan pretends to be our advocate, giving us reasons to sin. But he quickly becomes our accuser once we fall. He tries to steal our hope. But when we fall into temptation, we should never despair since God has sent the Holy Spirit to be our Advocate.

LET US PRAY

O God, Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of your Son, you have reconciled the world to yourself and

sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins. Through the ministry of your church

may I always experience your pardon, peace and forgiveness of my sins. Amen ACT Freed from slavery, the people of Israel composed a litany of praise to God for his powerful interventions, exclaiming for each one “this would have been good enough!” Think about what you can praise God for in your life.

THE VIGIL LAMPS WILL BURN THIS WEEK FOR:- Our Lady & St Illtyd Our Lady: Dina Richards RIP (PLG) Sacred Heart: Jane Warburton RIP (PLG)

THE HOLY FATHER’S INTENTION FOR MAY: We pray that Deacons, faithful in their service to the Word and the poor, may be an invigorating symbol for the entire Church.

Please pray for the following who request your prayers: Tom McNally, Yvonne Harris, Maria Morgan, Elizabeth, Marianne Davey, Ray Cullinane,

Joan Whitton, Ian Beverley, Gretta Cooper, Thea Boyd, Maisie Moyes, Dick Barnicott,

Nick McKenna, Nicole Price, Simon Stanton, Sue Stanton, Shirley Garmston, Anne Hogg,

Ann Francis, Roseina Bruen. MAY THEY BE TOUCHED BY GOD’S HEALING HAND.

“When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, and they went down there and prayed for the Samaritans to receive the Holy Spirit, for as yet he had not come down on any of them: they had only been baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.” (First Reading Sixth Sunday of Easter)

From Fr. Mark….. This week we celebrate the feast which is an integral part of the Easter mystery, the Ascension of the Lord, our guarantee that one day we will be with Him in heaven to praise the Glory of God our Father. The Ascension is our hope of the great inheritance that awaits us, who believe in the risen Christ, now that we know He is “with us always; yes, to the end of time”. Please note Mass time for The Ascension of the Lord and either livestream or join with me spiritually at this time.

As we continue to live in these days of lockdown, the well known phrase ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder’ comes to mind as our hearts yearn to receive Christ in the Holy Eucharist, for the public celebration of Mass and for the peace that the actual physical structure of an open Church offers for quiet prayer and reflection. This yearning is natural for those who love the Lord and confirms to us that we have been created by God to adore and worship Him. By now we are aware that there was a fleeting mention by Boris Johnson of the possibility of “Places of Worship” in England being allowed to open their doors, in July, at the earliest. But still no mention for Wales. The Metropolitan Archbishops of England and Wales have issued a message about the closure of our Churches which is posted on the Archdiocese of Cardiff Website. Archbishop George Stack has asked the Clergy to start considering the necessary procedures that will need implementing to comply with Public Health Wales and Church Health & Safety so that when Churches open we can do so with confidence. We will need to consider social distancing, how to implement the 2m rule; maybe sit in every other bench and a one way system around the Church. No singing from hymn books, no Holy Water stoups, adapting the Offertory Collection, safe reception of Holy Communion, hand sanitising stations and rigorous cleaning of our Churches after each celebration of Mass. These are just some of the things we will need to consider but one thing is certain life will not be the same as before. A Priest wrote on Twitter; “People have said, ‘I just want things to go back to normal!’ but I DON’T! I want more than 22% of Catholics coming to Mass every week. I want MORE people coming to Confession on a regular basis. I want MORE people cherishing their Catholic Faith. And I believe that WILL be the case!” Do we want to “go back to normal” or can we emerge from this with a stronger faith as Christ’s witnesses in the world today? Keep the Faith: every Sunday at 9.30pm, this weekend the theme is ‘Our friends the Saints!’ Anyone interested in joining please contact Fr Mark by email and he will issue you with a link to join “Zoom”.

For those without the internet St. Mary’s in Newport have come up with a solution “Dial-a-

Service”. For those who do not have access to Mass they have set up a telephone number, 01633 982483, for you to call and listen to a 10-15 minute period of prayer and reflection relating to the weekend’s readings. Anyone who can access Mass on livestream or TV should do so; it is no replacement for the Mass, this is purely for those who cannot access the Mass to feel connected.
