Thank you to all those parents and carers who attended Parent/Teacher Learning Conferences at the beginning of the term. If you were unable to attend a conference, please make a time to meet with your child’s class teacher. Simply contact the office and your child’s class teacher will call you to make an appointment.

ENGLISH CLASSES FOR PARENTS AND CARERS Navitas English is a provider of English classes as part of the Adult Migrant English Program. Eligible adults are able to receive 510 hours free. They also have additional programs to help adults learn English such as the English Enhancement Program.

Liverpool Public School is exploring the possibility of working with Navitas to provide additional English lessons for interested parents and carers, either here at school or at a nearby location.

An information session will be held for parents and carers on Wednesday 17th August at 9am in the school hall. More details will be sent home shortly.

STUDENT HEALTH CARE

Has your child’s medical needs changed?

Please update your child’s medical information with the school. Our school asks for medical information when you enrol your child, however it is also important that you let us know if your child’s health care needs change or if a new health condition develops.

If there have been changes to your child’s medical needs, or they no longer have a medical need that you have previously told us about, please visit the school office to update your child’s medical details.

Remember to also notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or to the contact details of other people nominated as emergency contacts.

SKOOLBAG Have you been receiving the messages we have been sending via Skoolbag? If not, download the free app now and keep up to date with what is happening at Liverpool Public School!

Follow the instructions below to download Skoolbag onto your mobile phone or tablet.

Features on Skoolbag! There are so many features available on Skoolbag including: • submitting your child’s absent letter using Skoolbag. To do this, click on eForms and then Absentee

Form. • permission notes for excursions and events. To do this, click on Permission Notes. You will receive a

notification the day the note is sent home so you can make sure you receive the note. If not, simply download and print the attachment. There is also a direct link to the school website for you to pay online!

• adding school Events to your personal calendar by clicking on events. Look in the month the planned event is on and then ‘Add to calendar’. This will then appear in your calendar.

• personalising Skoolbag to ensure you receive messages based on your child’s grade or interests. Currently you can select to have messages sent for a specific grade. We have been adding categories for other groups such as sporting or performance groups.

The way we will use this is, for example, instead of sending a message to the whole school about an upcoming Year 3 excursion, we will simply send it to the Year 3 category. All parents who have selected Year 3 as one of their categories will receive the message.

How to customise Skoolbag to suit your needs. To customise Skoolbag, simply open the setup option and turn on or off the categories that you wish to receive messages from. Remember, you will still receive messages that are sent to the whole school. You won’t miss out on important whole school information!

THE LEADER IN ME This week, we launched our new initiative The Leader In Me at our Open Day. An information session was held for our parents and carers which gave an overview of what The Leader In Me is about. Afterwards, open classrooms allowed parents and carers to see The Leader In Me in action. Additional information sessions are scheduled for parents and carers to find out more about The Leader In Me and ideas that can be used at home. The dates and times are:

Below is an overview of the habits from The Leader In Me for parents and carers who were unable to make it to our Launch Day.

Habit 1: Be Proactive® I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind® I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision. I look for

ways to be a good citizen.

Habit 3: Put First Things First® I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized.

Habit 4: Think Win-Win® I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. When

conflicts arise, I look for a win-win solution.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood® I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoint (paradigm). I listen to others without interrupting. I listen with my ears, my eyes,

and my heart. I am confident in voicing my ideas.

Habit 6: Synergize® I value other people’s strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people’s ideas because I know that by

teaming with others, we can create better solutions than what any one of us could alone. I look for third alternatives.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw® I eat right, exercise, and get enough sleep (body). I learn in lots of ways and lots of

places, not just at school (brain). I spend time with family and friends (heart). I take time to find meaningful ways to help people (soul). I balance all four parts of myself.

Our Amazing Excursion On Tuesday 14th June, all of Stage 2 had to arrive at school super early. We met in the hall and the teachers marked the roll and checked we all had a school hat. We were all SO excited!

We boarded three buses, put on our seatbelts and off we went.

It was a very long way. We travelled over the Anzac bridge and Sydney Harbour Bridge. We could see the Opera House. Finally we arrived at our destination - Taronga Park Zoo.

First we ate our recess and went to the toilet. Then we set off to see all the astonishing animals. We were in three different groups.

Some of us saw the slippery, smiley seals. They dived down deep in the water and splashed some of us.

In the African Safari section we saw stripy zebras and gigantic giraffes with their very long blue tongues eating leaves from tall buckets of leaves.

In the Australian Bush section we saw tree kangaroos, wallabies, wombats,

Tasmanian devils platypus, emus and sleepy koalas. Some people were scared of the emus. They had sharp beaks.

We all saw the gorillas. There were two mother gorillas with babies on their back and a huge silverback.

At the reptile encounter we saw slippery snakes and lazy lizards, but we couldn’t find the crocodile. He was camouflaged.

Before we boarded the buses to come back to school we ate our lunch and had a drink.

There was a lot of traffic coming back to school. Most of us were very tired and almost fell asleep.

It was an awesome excursion and we all want to thank Mrs Kirkness for organising it.

Stage 2 can’t wait till their next adventure.
