Melody is in care and has been separated from her little sister Harmony. She’s got to keep hold of her toy monster Mojo to keep her on the straight and narrow. But when new girl Blessing arrives from Nigeria and tries to steal her best mate Rizla, Melody’s demons start to take over her Mojo with devastating consequences…

This gritty, funny and emotional story follows three young people as they begin to fend for themselves in a world that sometimes feels unreal.

This unique piece of Hip Hop Theatre, fusing spoken word, music, dance, puppetry and street art brings together a remarkable artistic team including Sue Buckmaster (Theatre-Rites), Kwesi Johnson (Kompany Malakhi) club artist Mark Wigan (I.D magazine/The Brain Club) and Hobbit (International Beatboxing Champion) alongside 20 Stories High’s Keith Saha writer/director of the award winning Ghost Boy.

A DAY OF PLEASURE STORIES OF A BOY GROWING UP IN WARSAWWorld Première TourBy Isaac Bashevis SingerDirected by Neil Sissons

THU 26 TO SAT 28 SEP

New York. 1978. The cab driver is waiting to take him to the airport.

The evening before he travels to Stockholm to collect the Nobel Prize for Literature, Isaac Bashevis Singer - a passionate, brilliant storyteller - recalls a fascinating childhood full of mystery, torment and adventure.

A Day of Pleasure is about more than a young boy growing up in a strange and exotic world - it is about growing up itself. Singer brings to life the vivid characters of pre-war Warsaw, his own character and the human conditions that affect us all.

Performed by Stuart Richman - a founding member of the Liverpool Everyman Acting Company.

MONKEY BARS By Chris GoodeDialogues originated by Karl James

TUE 1 TO SAT 5 OCT

Award-winning writer Chris Goode asked forty 8 to 10 year-olds to talk about their lives. About being scared, getting lost, being brave, growing up. About the adult world that surrounds and awaits them. About family and faith and their favourite sweets.

In Monkey Bars, their words are spoken by adults - playing adults in adult situations. Monkey Bars is a funny and endlessly surprising verbatim show which offers a revelatory insight into what children are trying to tell us about their lives - and ours - that we don’t always hear.

“Everybody wants to change the world. Nobody thinks to change himself.”

One of the most extraordinary novels of all time, Crime and Punishment gets inside the mind of a starving, destitute student who commits a brutal double murder.

Raskolnikov is surrounded by the harsh injustices of the world; the grime of poverty and prostitution, unscrupulous pawnbrokers chasing debts; and a sister about to marry someone she doesn’t love to keep her family alive.

His guilt is unbearable. Only Sonya, a downtrodden prostitute, can offer any chance of redemption.

As Raskolnikov enters a dangerous cat and mouse game with the magistrate, a psychological thriller unfolds that probes how far humanity might go when driven by disillusionment and whether any crime can be justified by a higher purpose.

Chris Hannan’s stage adaptation is an exciting, fresh and accessible new way to explore Dostoyevsky’s masterpiece, realised by the award-winning creative team behind The Three Musketeers and the Princess of Spain.

Contains strong language.

Mark Thomas is well versed in the art of creative mayhem and over the years his troublemaking has changed laws, cost companies millions and annoyed those who most deserved to be. Now he returns to what he does best - mischief- joyously bad behaviour with a purpose.

After his award winning show Bravo Figaro - which was at the Playhouse earlier this year - Mark sets himself the task of committing 100 Acts of Minor Dissent in the space of a year.

Mark catalogues everything from the smallest and silliest gesture to the grandest confrontations and the results are subversive, hilarious, mainly legal and occasionally inspiring.

“Tender and poignant, it was clear it came straight from the heart”8/10 Liverpool ECHO on Bravo Figaro

“The world’s my oyster, I could be anywhere - Bolton, Blackburn, Burnley…”

Way out west, on the edge of England, the sun is setting on the last scrapyard in town.

It’s Friday night and time for a pint for Ken and his loyal apprentices Morse,“Fleetwood’s answer to Jack Kerouac, if anyone’s asking” and Ryan, who just wants a smile from the girl at the bus stop.

But a storm is brewing, and the thunder of bulldozers grows closer.

And then, Carlsberg in one hand, Jimmy Choos in the other, Jodie turns up…

Scrappers is a funny and tender story of diamonds in the rough, where a little bit of magic sparkles under the rusting tangle of modern life.

Daniel Matthew is a graduate of the Everyman and Playhouse Young Writers programme.

Scrappers will be directed by Resident Director Matthew Xia and designed by the 2013 winner of the Playhouse Studio/LIPA Design Prize.

April, 1984. 13:00. Comrade 6079, Winston Smith, thinks a thought, starts a diary, and falls in love. But Big Brother is watching him - and the door to Room 101 can swing open in the blink of an eye.

Its ideas have become our ideas, and Orwell’s fiction is often said to be our reality. The definitive book of the 20th century is re-examined in a radical new staging exploring surveillance, identity and how thinking you can fly might actually be the first step to flying.

In an age of mass surveillance, ‘total’ policing and GPS tracking, 1984 is as relevant now as it ever was.

Simeon Duff is unemployed and desperate. His wife works. He’s lost all self esteem. He’s on the scrap heap and wants to end it all …

When word gets out that Duff is going to top himself, a host of ne’er-do-wells crawl out of the woodwork, each wanting to claim his ‘grand gesture’ for their noble cause. Let’s face it, why waste a death? But which cause shall it be… love, politics, religion, or the rising price of fish?

Conrad Nelson (A Government Inspector, Lisa’s Sex Strike, The Canterbury Tales and Accidental Death of an Anarchist) directs a large cast of charismatic northern actor-musicians in this brilliantly insane comedy about a man on the edge. With live onstage music.

It’s the Rock ‘n’ Roll tale of a lad called Aladdin,Whose favourite pastime was going out a gaddin’!

But when accused of a crime he hadn’t committed,He broke into the Palace, to be acquitted.

Not amused, the Empress screamed at our champ…“Off with your head, or find me my lamp!”

Aladdin weighed it up and went with the latter,He didn’t much fancy his head on a platter!

So he set off straight away to seek that which he sought,A rusty old lamp, well that’s what he thought…

Come on down to the rave in a cave, Show us your moves and dare to be brave!

It’s funky, it’s frothy, it’s groovy and cool, But don’t forget…better bring yer cagoule!

It’s gonna be wet, there’ll be splashes and splishes, What would you do…if you had three wishes?!

Early next year the beautiful new Everyman will open its doors. New incarnations of the much-loved wraparound theatre and basement Bistro will be complemented by new spaces to discuss and discover, imagine and create, eat and meet. The whole building will be accessible, inviting and environmentally friendly. And a Portrait Wall façade representing the people of Liverpool will express the fact that this is truly an Everyman for Everyone.

The new Everyman is nearly here… the external structure is almost complete; the shutters for the Portrait Wall have all been made, and the auditorium and Bistro are starting to reveal their personalities. The original Hope Hall bricks are a strong presence throughout and bring a wonderful sense of history into this 21st century building.

The building is just the start of the story. Alongside construction of the new theatre, we are creating a Talent Fund to nurture the actors, writers, directors and designers who will stimulate and delight us for years to come. By supporting the Everyman appeal, you will not only be helping create a beautiful building, but also helping support future generations of theatre talent.

Name a seat

When the new Everyman opens early next year you can make sure you see your name on one of the best seats in the house by naming one!

The new seats, specially designed for the Everyman, will replace the cinema seats and hard benches of old. Covered in rich velvet, they will offer a whole new level of comfort and create a warm and welcoming glow.

By making a monthly gift of £50 for 10 months or a one-off donation of £500 you will have the opportunity to dedicate one of the fantastic new seats. Your seat dedication could be a gift for someone special, to mark an important occasion, a memorial for a loved one or simply to celebrate your own relationship with the Everyman.

All seat dedications will remain for a minimum of ten years. The new auditorium will be flexible and seats will move around, therefore we cannot guarantee the position of your seat, but we will invite you in to explore the building before it opens to the public and sit in your special seat.
