Welcome from the President of the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences

For over 55 years now, the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS) has provided for the world’s aerospace engineers, scientists, technologists and managers, the pre-eminent forum to present

and discuss the latest developments in aeronautics. This remarkable apolitical organization founded by Theodore von Kármán and his international colleagues, continues to build on its impressive heritage, to be even more relevant to the global aerospace industries. This world congress staged biennially by ICAS is the key opportunity for those committed to serving those industries to meet, present, discuss and create opportunities that can only be done in such an international environment.

The pace of technological developments and the diversity of business challenges facing those working in aeronautics are greater than ever today. The knowledge, skills, facilities and finance necessary to progress our profession and associated businesses are no longer found in one place or even close to home. Therefore, in such an environment with seemingly limitless availability of unfiltered information from a diversity of sources, ICAS Congresses represent unique opportunities every two years to learn and interact with the leaders in the field from around 40 countries.

The topics addressed at ICAS Congresses are typically diverse and reflections of the challenges and opportunities of the day. The

foundations of the industry, the aeronautical disciplines of aerodynamics and performance, stability and control, materials and structures, and propulsion and systems, always feature strongly, however every Congress brings new topics. In recent times, there has been considerable growth in sessions on air traffic management and systems, manufacturing and the supply chain, safety and security, and of course the environment and operations. As we prepare for the next Congress, it is clear that there will again be increased focus on unmanned air vehicles and systems, and operational challenges for the global air transport system.

invite you to consider participating in the 30th ICAS Congress, and at this time, to commence the preparation of a paper detailing your most important work conducted over the past two-year period. As a guide to authors, the list of ICAS 2016 topic headings is appended. However, this list should not be regarded as exhaustive and papers from other relevant areas were welcome.

The 30th ICAS Congress is to be held in Daejeon, and this is the first time the Congress will be held in Korea. Following the great success of the most recent Congress held in St. Petersburg, Russia, for which a record number of papers were submitted, we anticipate that there will be very strong interest in participating in this next historic meeting.

Welcome from the President of KSAS (Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences)

As the president of the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences (KSAS), I would like to warmly invite you to attend the 30th Congress of the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences in Daejeon, Korea, Sep. 25–30, 2016.

The 30th ICAS Congress will be a fantastic and memorable event. Since the first ICAS congress at Madrid in 1958, ICAS has been growing and gaining recognition in the field of aeronautics and related technologies. The KSAS and

the local organizing committee will continue this legacy and provide the best ever experience with industry experts and researchers worldwide.

The ICAS Congress will be held at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC), located at next to Gapcheon River which crosses the heart of Daejeon. From its conception in the 1970s as a R&D innovation cluster, INNOPOLIS Daedeok has been leading the advancement of Korean science and technology via the support of government policy, government research institutes, academics and industries.

ICAS Organization and Committees

THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF THE AERONAUTICAL SCIENCES

ICAS was founded by Theodore von Karman in 1957 as a non-government not-for-profit scientific organization to encourage the free international exchange of information on aeronautical research and technology. The mission of ICAS is to provide regularly scheduled events and publications that enable a better understanding of engineering science and practice and an improved level of cooperation among aeronautical engineering professionals from around the world. ICAS currently serves as the only international support organization to representative aeronautical engineering professional societies and their members in 30 countries. ICAS functions under three primary bodies: Council (meets biennially), Executive Committee (meets at least twice each year) and Programme Committee (meets annually). ICAS holds an International Congress in the fields of Aeronautical Sciences on a biennial basis. The venue is chosen by the Council and changes from Congress to Congress. Furthermore ICAS organizes a thematic workshop in the year between the congresses in connection with the meeting of the Program Committee. ICAS COUNCIL Representatives of Member Societies

[TT 03] Technical Tour 03: Aerospace Systems T&E Centerin Agency for Defense Development

Agency for Defense Development (ADD) Aerospace Systems Test and Evaluation Center (ASTEC) in ADD has the capability of integrated test & evaluation for EMC, Environmental and Flight tests. EMC and Environmental tests can be done for air/ground/naval/missile weapon systems including commercial items. Three 950Hp Turboprop aircrafts are operated for captive flight tests to validate performance of electronic equipment and commercial equipment and development flight test for airborne weapon system. REGISTRATION POLICY

Cancellations must be notified in writing to ICAS Local Secretariat. If received before or on 25 August 2016, registration fees will be refunded less 20% to cover administration costs. After 25 August 2016, no refunds will be given. This also includes the costs of the congress banquet. As an alternative to cancellation, your registration may be transferred to another person without penalty, provided a registration form with new details is submitted.

Healing Courses in Daejeon

Red Clay Road in Mt. Gyejok Forest Lodge of Mt. Jangtae Mt. Gyeryong National Park

Along with the Mt. Gyejok Premium 100-ri Forest Trail, this beautiful trail is found in Jang-dong Recreational Forest. Visitors can take a pleasant barefoot walk along this 13km-long loess trail from spring to fall.

Mt. Jangte Forest (300,000 pyeong) is the first recreation forest built by the private fund in South Korea. It has accommodation facilities, fish farm, deer farms, and a children’s playground.

Mt. Gyeryong is 845.1m above sea level and was made a national park in 1968. The origin of the word Gyeryong comes from the fact that the ridgeline looks like a dragon wearing a chicken's crest on its head.

Unique Courses in Daejeon

Hanbat Arboretum EXPO Science Park Yuseong Hot Spring

This arboretum is located in the center part of the Daejeon Government Complex and the Expo Science Park. This is the hub of culture and art that embraces the Daejeon Art Center, Pyeongsong Youth Cultural Center, City Art Musuem, and the Lee Eungno Gallery.

The Expo Science Park was established to commemorate the Daejeon Expo held in 1993, to encourage the development of cutting edge industry, to raise awareness of science and technology. Through the Expo Re-creation Project, the Expo Science Park was designated as `City Restoration Priority Area` (September, 2008) as a long term development strategy.

The Yuseong Hot Spring is located in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu of Daejeon City. Yuseong is famous for hot springs. Yuseong improves every day. Many education institutions including Chungnam National University and Daeduck Research Complex known as the science center of Korea are located in Yuseong.

Night of Daejeon City

Dunsan Area (Dunsan-dong) Ui-neung-jeong-i Cultural Street Expo Bridge

Dunsan-dong is one of the most-visited places in Daejeon to have shopping together with the Ui-neung-jeong-i Cultural Street. There are many shops and restaurants. It takes 15 minutes from venue(DCC). Also there is the Galleria Department Store which is high-class department store with quality customer service.

Ui-neung-jeong-i Cultural Street was the center of the government administration, business and traditional culture in the central region from the 1960s to the 1980s. Now, it is emerging as an art and cultural street. About 150 art and culture-related shops and facilities are clustered along this street.

Expo Bridge is the one of the special site in Daejeon. Many people visit the Expo Bridge to ride a bycicle or to exersice with their family at night. Walking the bridge as well as riding a bycircle is good way to enjoy the Expo bridge. (It is car-free bridge.) A musical fountain show often takes place around this bridge.

Sightseeing around Daejeon

Sejeong City Gongju City

Sejong City is located in the central inner area of Chungcheongnam-do, and stretches south-north. Consequently, from ancient times, the current city areas were divided by the Mt. Charyeong and the Geum River into parts of Jeoneui, Yeongi, and Geumnam. But, with the development of streets in recent decades, those areas were combined into one.

Gongju is located in the center of South Korea and of South Chungcheong Province. Two major mountains are located near Gongju (Mt. Charyong and Mt. Gyeryong), and Geum River runs through the city from east to west. Several tributary rivers such as Yugu-cheon, Jeongan-cheon, Daekyocheon, Jemin-cheon, and Hyoljeo-cheon meet here.

Course 1. Jeonju Traditional Areas

Itinerary Gyeonggi-Jeon (Royal Palace) → Lunch → Jeonju Hanok Village → Wanju Healjo Town

Gyeonggijeon Shrine was erected in 1410 and holds the portrait of King Tae-jo, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. The King and his wife’s mortuary tablets are enshrined here at Jogyeong Shrine. Gyeonggijeon is located around Hanok Village. There are over 800 traditional Korean 'hanok' houses at the village. Gyeonggi-Jeon and Jeonju Hanok Village are currently the newest hot spot for foriegners. It is a great place to experience wearing traditional clothes called Hanbok while touring the city. It will be a great opportunity to enjoy the Korean food, clothing, and shelter. Finally, light festival held in Wanju Healjo Town helps restoring the soul and gives visitors unique experiences.

Course 2. Korea Tradition and Modernity [Seoul]

Itinerary Samsung Innovation Museum → Lunch → Gyeong-bok-gung (Royal Palace) → Insa-dong

The capital city of Korea, Seoul, is the biggest city which has special culture including past and present Korea. Samsung Innovation Museum is a business hall as well as the largest sized industrial electronics museum in Korea, displaying the growing steps of Samsung Electronics Corporation at a glance. Gyeongbokgung was constructed in 1395 as the first royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty, and it has been the main royal palace among the five grand palaces during the Joseon Dynasty. Many buildings including the Throne Hall Geunjeongjeon, Gyeonghoe-ru Pavilion and Hwangwonjeong Pond are very well preserved. The Changing of Guards ceremony performed in front of the palace gate is a must-see when visiting the area. Insa-dong Street is one of the most memorable attractions in Seoul and represents the focal point of Korean traditional culture and crafts. The street offers rich opportunities for visitors to experience Korean traditional culture and arts.

Course 3. Baekje Historic Areas [UNESCO World Heritage Site]

Itinerary Busosanseong Fortress of Buyeo → Lunch → Jeongnimsa Temple Site → Neungsan-ri Ancient Tombs

Located in the mountainous mid-western region of the Republic of Korea, this historic area comprises eight archaeological sites dating from 475 to 660 AD, including the Gongsanseong fortress and royal tombs at Songsan-ri related to the capital, Ungjin (present day Gongju), the Busosanseong Fortress, the Jeongnimsa Temple, and the Neungsan-ri Ancient Tombs related to the capital, Sabi (now Buyeo), the royal palace at Wanggung-ri and the Mireuksa Temple in Iksan related to the secondary Sabi capital. Together, these sites represent the later period of the Baekje Kingdom during which time they were at the crossroads of considerable technological, religious (Buddhist), cultural and artistic exchanges between the ancient East Asian kingdoms in Korea, China and Japan. Step 2) Take an Airport Limousine Bus at bus stop.

You can purchase the ticket near the platform 9D (Gimpo: Bus Stop #1 around Gate 1 in 2nd floor) or at the ticket booth inside the terminal building near the 1st floor gate 5 or 8 and this bus will not go through the rest area normally. Therefore, please drop by toilets in the terminal building before getting on the bus.

Step 3) Get off at the Daejeon Government Complex Stop and travel to Congress venue or your hotel.

It will stop at 4 locations in Daejeon. And the third stop (Daejeon Chungsa or Daejeon Government Complex Station) is the best stop for you to get off. When you get off in Daejeon, it is highly recommended to take a taxi to go to your destination.

ii) KTX Train (Korean Train eXpress)

There are two ways from Incheon International Airport to Daejeon Station. One is to take KTX express trains that directly link to and from Incheon International Airport to Daejeon Station without transit. However, KTX between Incheon International Airport and Daejeon Station runs only five or six times a day and approximately the cost is KRW 37,000. Another one is to take AREX Express from Incheon International Airport to Seoul Station, and take KTX express trains departing from Seoul Station to Daejeon Station. KTX between Seoul and Daejeon runs at 15-minute intervals from about 05:20 to 23:20. It will cost KRW 24,000 approximately.

Step 1) Move to transportation center on the first basement level.

KTX between Incheon International Airport and Daejeon Station runs only five or six times a day. For the booking the KTX ticket in advance, please refer to the KTX website: http://www.letskorail.com/ebizbf/EbizBfIndex.do

Step 2) Walk to Station and buy a ticket at ticket office.

When you get off the Daejeon, it is highly recommended to take a taxi to go to your destination. It will take about 30 min. from Daejeon station to Venue and will cost KRW 8,000 approximately

Korea’s climate is regarded as a continental climate from a temperate standpoint and a monsoon climate from a precipitation standpoint. The climate of Korea is characterized by four distinct seasons. Spring and Autumn are rather short, Summer is hot and humid, and Winter is cold and dry with abundant snowfall. Temperatures differ widely from region to region within Korea, with the average being between 6 °C (43°F) and 16 °C (61°F).

Banks can offer some of the best exchange rates to travelers. Banking hours can vary, but most business hours are from 09:00 to 16:00. ATMs typically operate until 23:00, but many are open 24 hours. ATMs can also be found at convenient stores, but generally charge a higher transaction fee. ELECTRICTY & VOLTAGE

The electricity supply commonly used in Korea is the 200-volt 60Hz system. Because most newly built hotels and houses have the 220-volt wiring installed, you are advised to check your electronic equipment beforehand.

Government office hours are usually from 9:00 to 18:00 on weekdays. Banks are open from 9:00 to 16:00 on weekdays. Most stores are open every day from 10:30 to 20:00, including Sundays.

TAX

Value-added tax (VAT) is levied on most goods and services at a standard rate of 10% and is included in the retail price. In tourist hotels, this 10% tax applies to meals and other services and is added into the bill.

TIPPING

Tipping is not a traditional custom in Korea. A 10% service charge will be added to your bill at all tourist restaurants and hotels. It is also not necessary to tip a taxi driver unless he assists you with luggage or provides an extra service.
