a- Reading and analysing extracts from classic children’s fiction then planning and writing and episode in the same style Explore proverbs, saying and expressions Read classic fiction and become familiar with classic children’s authors To learn about authors writing in the 1st person (I) To know the difference between author and narrator To understand how paragraphs and chapters are structured and linked Plan and write a story using classic fiction as a model Write using paragraphs and chapters Edit and redraft writing b-Reading and analysing biography, autobiography and journalistic writing, them imitating the styles of writing Learn the styles and language of biography writing and understand 1st and 3rd person narration Look at how paragraphs, chapters and headings are used in biographical texts Consider features of journalistic style when writing biographical reports Develop skills of writing biography and autobiography Use journalistic style to write reports Edit and redraft their writing

HALF TERM c-Reading and discussing classic poetry and part of a Shakespeare play Read and enjoy classic poetry and become familiar with the poets Understand poems where the meaning is implied (not obvious) Begin to develop familiarity with Shakespeare and his plays Prepare and practice a short performance, then evaluate it 2a-Reading and analysing longer established stories, including suspense Introduce the active and passive voice Recognise the use of the conditional tense (if you are good, then we will) Discuss whether an author is successful in creating a mood or atmosphere in his/her writing, or creating suspense Plan and write a short story, using paragraphs and creating a mood or atmosphere. Edit work checking vocabulary, spelling and punctuation

Number Recognise and extend number sequences, such as the sequence of square numbers, or the sequence of triangular numbers 1,3,6,10,15... Count on in steps of 0.1, 0.2, 0.25, 0.5.... and then back Make general statements about odd or even numbers Solve mathematical puzzles or problems, recognise and explain patterns and relationships Multiply and divide decimals mentally by 10 or 100, and whole numbers by 1000 Use the vocabulary of estimation and approximation Consolidate rounding an integer to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000 Understand relationships between the four operations and use brackets Extend written methods to column addition and subtraction of numbers including decimals Consolidate all learned mental strategies Estimate by approximating and check results Use addition and subtraction to solve ‘real-life’ problems, such as money, using one or more steps including finding simple percentages Check that answers are reasonable Use known facts and place value to consolidate mental strategies for addition/subtraction Check the sum of numbers by adding in reverse order Fractions, ratio, handling data Write the answer to a division sum as a fraction or as a decimal rounded to one decimal place Change an improper fraction to a mixed number and vice versa Recognise relationships between fractions and reduce a fraction to its simplest form Order fractions by converting to a common denominator Solve simple problems using proportion and ratio Use decimal notation for tenths, hundredths and thousandths Order a mixed set of numbers with up to three decimal places Use the language of probability Solve a problem by using data in tables, graphs, charts and diagrams including those generated by a computer Find the mode and range of a set of data
