She at- tended Burke County schools thru the eighth grade. She had many different jobs as a young adult, but when her family moved to Powers Lake North Dakota, she spent time working as a nurse at Powers Lake Hospital. Working with Dr. Goodman was a highlight of her life. While helping with the cooking for a har- vest crew, she met Oscar Kjelshus who had a farm north of McGregor. They were married March 2, 1951 and together they ran the fam- ily farm and raised three children. Lila was active as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the Ladies Aid at Our Saviors Lu- theran Church. She was a great cook and made some very special desserts. Even though she was busy with the farm and house, she always had the time to spend talking with her children and their friends. Oscar and Lila were present for all their children’s activities to support and cheer them on. Her smile and positive atti- tude brightened the day of anyone who came in contact with her. Oscar and Lila lived on the farm until they moved into the Assisted Living apartments in Tioga, North Dakota in 1997. Lila has strug- gled with the ravages of arthritis all her adult life. Lila Evelyn (Anderson) Kjelshus was born

April 23, 1921 in Lignite, ND, she was the

only child of Erik and Thea (Peterson) Ander-

son in Burke County, North Dakota. She at-

tended Burke County schools thru the eighth

grade.

She had many different jobs as a young

adult, but when her family moved to Powers

Lake North Dakota, she spent time working

as a nurse at Powers Lake Hospital. Working

with Dr. Goodman was a highlight of her life.

While helping with the cooking for a har-

vest crew, she met Oscar Kjelshus who had a

farm north of McGregor. They were married

March 2, 1951 and together they ran the fam-

ily farm and raised three children. Lila was

active as a Sunday school teacher and as a

member of the Ladies Aid at Our Saviors Lu-

theran Church.

She was a great cook and made some very

special desserts. Even though she was busy

with the farm and house, she always had the

time to spend talking with her children and

their friends. Oscar and Lila were present for

Rainbows Aren’t Forever

Rainbows aren’t forever But neither are goodbyes. They make us strong.

They launch our dreams. Our laughter and our signs.

There’s never been and never could be A rainbow without rain.

And just the same there just can’t be Goodbyes without the pain.

But when the colors of the rainbow fade or a special friend must leave,

We’re left with something no one can take, those precious memories Of rainbows and smiles, Dreams built on forever. The best time of all though was the time spent together.

Chocolate Lush Dessert

Butter or grease a 9x 12 sheet cake pan.

Split and tear half of an angel food cake into chucks

and put into the pan.

Melt 2 cups of chocolate chips in a double boiler. Use

1 cup milk chocolate and 1 cup dark chocolate -

unless you are a dark chocolate lover and you want to

use 2 cups dark chocolate. Do not use all milk choco-

late because if will not become firm. If you use a 3

quart kettle in a 4 quart kettle you can put all the in-

gredients in the kettle and not have to transfer the

melted chocolate.

Add the following ingredients one at a time, mixing

by hand each ingredient group into the melted chips

until smooth. Each group should be beaten in separate

bowls before being blended into the chocolate.

1. 4 Beaten Egg Yolks

2. 4 Beaten Egg Whites with a Pinch of Salt and 2

Tablespoons of Sugar

3. 1 Pint of Whipping Cream with a Teaspoon of

Vanilla

The mixture should be mixed until smooth. Pour half

of the mixture over the angel food cake chunks in the

pan. Tear and add the remaining angel food cake over

the covered chunks. Top with the remaining choco-

late mixture and cool.
