Youth Participation in Electoral Processes

• The Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Guatemala (TSE for its initials in Spanish) has waged on Guatemalan youth through ELECTORAL VOLUNTEERING.

• Other youth inclusion programs are:o School Governmento Civic Promotion activitieso Training and formation of youths on basic and higher education levels.

• Young women inclusion

The TSE and the youth´s political promotion on the elections

• The enrolled population with major relevance in the 2011 Electoral Roll Elections was the Guatemalan youth, between 18 and 25 years.

• The enrollment plan was directed to this population universe, being considered as an excluded segment in previous processes. A total amount of 1, 462,123 youths was achieved.

Electoral Volunteering• During the 2011 electoral process, over 5,900 youths

volunteered in activities of the electoral calendar.

• In this non-electoral year, there are currently 1,335 volunteers in the Republic.

• A total of 6,000 volunteers is expected for the next electoral event.

School governments

• Over 6000 youths have been trained en the last two years in sight of the future events.

• Looks for the promotion of the youths´ democratic culture through their participation in electing their student representatives, encouraging participation.

Civic Promotion Activities• Through the Guatemalan youths, the Supreme Electoral

Tribunal creates Civic Promotion activities involving the citizens.

Creation of the Women´s Political Promotion Office

• «Child, young, and adult women: towards and integral participation in the exercise of their citizenship» 2013-2014 program.

• Including school aged girls and women from various ages, they sum up a total of 3,335 altogether.

• Encourage through civic education women´s participation and inclusion in political, social, cultural, health, and other spaces, focusing on citizen rights to strengthen civil society and favoring the respect of diversity as main element of democratic culture.

Other applied actions:

• First and Second women´s Electoral Encounter.• Workshops oriented to community female leaders in

the Multiplying Net of Women´s Political and Electoral impact.

• Implementing certificated programs in electoral subjects.

• Strategic alliances with women´s and youth organizations.
