We Have to find a book on Whales. What do we do?

My Partner Doug and I are conducting research on whales for an upcoming research paper in our Library Research

Class. One of the sources we use must be a hard copy book and it must be from the Ingram Library.

Of course as large as the Ingram library is we wouldn’t know where exactly a book on whales would be located. So we

decided to look on the Library Search Engine Galileo.

Page 3: Library ethnography project

What a Fail!!Galileo and the Library website is used to search for books that are available in the library for any subject, so we thought. We attempted to do this ourselves and find the book Men and Whales on the Galileo search engine, but ran into some bumps along the way. So we asked for help.

Well since we had troubled finding it ourselves. We

decided to be men and ask for help. We utilized our resource of the student

assistant that assisted us in the process. The student assistant told us why it is

important to utilize library search engine to find books in the library. She walked us

through it step by step.

Question and Answer processSo we asked how can we used Galileo to search for a book in the Library. The student happily assisted us in this process. She explained to us that we use the Library Search Catalog instead of Galileo to search for a book in the library. To access this you go the Ingram Library Website and type in the title of the book in the search bar.

So the search begins

On this particular day the elevator was out of order so we took the stairs to the second floor to search for the book. The library letters and calls numbers are arranged alphabetically on shelves on the

second and third floors of the Library. We used our common knowledge and the information that the student assistant gave to

find the book Men and Whales. We searched on both the second and third floors to find the book. Here we are searching to see if this

is the correct shelf with the book.

STILL SEARCHINGYes Ingram Library is a large facility and houses a million books on so many topics. We continue to look on the signs that are posted on the side of the shelves that have what alphabets and calls numbers are on that particular shelf. Well the book on Whales and Men are not on this shelf so lets keep looking.

We Found it !!!We then make our way to the third

floor which houses the rest of the

books in the library. We search for the

letter W shelf and call numbers on that shelf.

After much searching we found the

right shelf with the correct call number

and alphabet. We found the correct

book entitled Men and Whales. We can

now use this book as a source to help

us conduct research on Whales.
